"He forgot to rub the stump" For those who might not get it, there used to be a show called "It's Showtime at the Apollo". They had amateur night and all of the contestants used to come out and rub that piece of tree stump for good luck, before performing. It was an Apollo tradition.

That show was rough, if the crowd didn’t like you, they’d boo till you got moved off by a tap dancing bouncer. If you snubbed the stump, they gave you no chance.

I can't say that I've ever been to a comedy club and had someone bomb...but been to a few café's and coffee shops where the 'performer' had 2-3 people in the ENTIRE ROOM! {very mild golf clap}.....AWKWAAAARD!
