Bro, I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. I was looking for some interesting trivia about Stallone (my role-model, btw) and then I saw your other videos packed with all my childhood heroes. I actually thought that I was the only one who still remembers Jeff Speakman and Thomas Ian Griffith. We are two of a kind. And you have this awesome video about Mark Dacascos. I’ve always liked the guy and he was fantastic in Only the Strong, Drive, Crying Freeman and Sabotage. Boogie Boy was cool too. He had a huge potential and I’ve expected him to become one of the top action heroes, but sadly it never happened. Too bad Stallone hasn’t invited him for The Expendables, but that chance still exists. Well, let me guess who will be #1 on this list - if you don’t want to go with Don “The Dragon” Wilson or amazing Brandon Lee, then it has to be Jeff Wincott. He had great physique and was very athletic, so he definitely deserves this spot. Michael Dudikoff can’t really be called a martial artist at all, so I’m sure his name won’t pop up. Great job and I’ll definitely keep an eye on your work from now on. And who knows, maybe we even end up being action heroes as well some day. They definitely need fresh blood and both of us are in good shape for sure. All the best! 👍
@@VikingSamurai I definitely think he never got credit or recognition but I believe he is the best and without a doubt when given opportunity he shines like john wick 3 and wu assassins he was awesome
I became a fan of him after watching Only the Strong. And Crying Freeman came as the second favorite movie I loved that Mark starred in. I came across your channel just few days ago. Great stuff bro!
What’s worse is that it wasn’t even Mark’s fault, if this video is anything to go by; it seems as if the film world shafted him with poor marketing. _Drive_ is another film of his that I would highly recommend. Despite the budget being quite low, he is brilliant in that and his martial arts and gymnastic capabilities were showcased properly. I would advise watching the Director’s Cut as this adds some additional scenes that give the film some heart, instead of being the generic actioner that it could be accused of being without those scenes.
As cheesy as Only the Strong was, I loved that movie because it introduced me to the beauty of playing Capoeira. He really did perform it well and it made me a fan. "Hey Santo, you're really starting to peez me off."
Love the channel, i grew up with these movies got me into wrestling, mma, bodybuilding, been training 20 years now and i m only 33 yo, arnie sly , van damme, bolo yeung, bruce lee, dolf, dacascos were and are my heroes

Mark Dacascos doesn’t get nearly the amount of attention he so deserves. Not only did women think that he was incredibly good-looking, but he has a great on-screen presence (especially with those eyes of his), and unlike a lot of those 1990s martial-arts actors from that part of the world, he could put in a pretty good acting performance. _Drive_ remains my favourite film of his from that particular era, although I am quite intrigued by _Only the Strong._
Love Mark Dacascos!!, my favorite films of his are "Only the strong" and "Drive", love those!!. I own a good few of his movies. Was good to see him the high profile movie (John Wick 3). Been a long time fan of his. He should've been a bigger star!!
Very underrated action actor, perfect body, perfect martial art skills, perfect face for films, very handsome and interesting face, good charisma. I don t understand why he is more famous. He had thr traits to became the same levek of star like van damme or dolph lundgren . Look at his physique, perfect lines, very aesthetic, so shredded. In only the strong he looked fantastic.
I love Mark he's a great I always enjoyed watching his movies. I really enjoyed sanctuary I was hoping you would play a few clips of that that movie is underrated like a mug
He had the skills and the looks and he has been a working actor for a long time if not a star which in Hollywood is a dream for most....a lot of it can be timing...sometimes you can just be ahead of your time
I loved only the strong, catchy song and was cool to see to see a Filipino guy starring in his own film. He's a likeable actor and I wish I could have seen him in more bigger movies. Even though Double Dragon didn't get great reviews, I still loved Marc in it.
I was a huge fan of Mark Dacascos during the 90’s and still am. I can’t tell you how many times I watched Only the Strong. Because of Mark I took up Capoeira and trained for 2 years and got good at it. I bought two copies of Only the Strong on VHS because they had two different covers. I even bought the soundtrack on cd. In high school I made a presentation about Capoeira and then showed the intro clip from Only the Strong with Mark and Mestre Santo. It was a shame Mark didn’t become a huge star as he could’ve been the next Brandon Lee. However, beside Only the Strong, I love Drive, Crying Freeman and Brotherhood of the Wolf. And he was excellent as the John Wick fanboy/villain in John Wick 3. Great work and great channel! I just subscribed!
Dude you’re just working your way through all the movies I’ve been watching (or trying to watch) during Quarantine. I think I was one of the 8 people that saw this one in the theater. Been a dacascos fan ever since
@@VikingSamurai I agree, especially since the version that American viewers saw was cut down quite a bit from what director Steve Wang had filmed originally. On DVD in Region 2, the movie is uncut.
Criminally underated as an actor. And as good as Reeves is as John Wick, Dacascos came close to snatching 3 out from under him. Been reported Marvel may do a Sub Mariner movie. Dacascos would be an excellent choice. Unfortunately he may be too old. I remember Having a stack of his VHS tapes along with Billy Blanks. Another underated actor and Martial Artist. Mark Dacascos is one of my favorite under rated Martial Arts Movie Stars. Only the Strong introduced me to him and Capoeira. He was excellent in Brotherhood of the Wolf. He has been on my must meet in person list since I was 13... I'm turning 40 this year lol but I follow him on Instagram so getting close
I love that guy! I only watched Crying Freeman but it was a faithful manga adaptation. If you're faithful to the popular source material then you'll also carry its fame and even if it failed financially it'll still have a great cult following from the loyal fans. Thanks for the info on his other films, I may have to check out his other underrated martial arts that I've missed in the 90's.
Thank you very much for explaining what happened to Mark Dacascos's career, it is very interesting and makes so much sense of why he didn't become BIGGER during the 90's. Thanks! Wow!! Poor Guy, I feel for him, cause things just didn't fall into place. Wrong place Wrong time. God Bless Mark.
ive been a fan of dacasccos for years. i saw only the strong when i was fairly new, & have deliberately sought out other films just b/c he was in them.
That's when I became a fan when I saw Only The Strong. I love actors that incorporate gymnastics in martial arts. When I saw him in American Samurai, I liked him even more. And who better than him to be cast as Eric Draven in The Crow: Stairway to Heaven? One of my favorite movies of his is Drive. That seemed like a movie custom made to show off his skills.
No mention of Mark Dacascos in "Brotherhood of the Wolf"? French film with some really good Martial Arts. Highly recommended for story and visual beauty (Landscapes and era settings).
Interestingly it had a fairly big push in the UK in the summer of 94. I remember most of my friends saw it. It felt to me at the time like a real big budget film and it wasn’t lost amongst some of the amazing films that year. It seemed like they were really grooming Dacascos to be something special. I saw it at the cinema and don’t think I’ve seen it since.
@@SethBrundleify I agree for the most part but Mark was the only man to ever come close to anything watchable (after Brandon) in my opinion. Of course nobody could ever replace Brandon. I almost watched it from the standpoint of a tribute if that makes sense.
I just finished watching only the strong today, I think it would of been cool if van damme had a fight with Mark dacascos and it would be interesting to see who comes out on top, I think there's so many martial arts actor's van damme could of made movie's with and didn't get a chance too.
I have that movie Only the Strong, I love that movie. Mark Dacascas is a amazing Martial artist, great athlete. Sometimes doing the wrong movie can affect how big you become but it hasnt stopped him from working thats testament to his longevity in film.
I'm possibly meeting him next month. I train with Mestre Amen, remotely, who taught him. Definitely bringing my Only the Strong hard copy hoping for an autograph from both. Haha
I loved Only The Strong as well. It was almost like Dangerous Minds meets Lionheart. I was already vaguely familiar with capoeira and loved the way they portrayed it in the movie. Plus I'm from Miami. My family and I wore that VHS out! I'm surprised Mark Dacascos never reached his full potential as an actor. He had what it took; great looks, physical talent and acting ability.
Dacascos was one of my favourite Martial Artists in the game, and still until this days. Drive, only the strong, Crying Freeman and Brotherhood of the Wolf still very fresh until those days. I wish that John Wick can put him in right spot now.
Its all about "Drive". It was the fist martial arts movie that had a plot stating why these guys could do all these superhuman things, and the action backed it up. I also believe Mark was part of the American Wushu Team in the 90s, regardless of whether that's true or not, it always gave me hope that I could follow in his foot steps.
Mark Dacascos is a very impressive martial artist and his talent on figth scenes its solid. Unfortunately he never stars a great sucess on therms the box office, made his name on the second team from action movies at 90. Recently he co-star on "John Wich 3" as a bad guy, but i wondering if he made sucess with 1995 "Crying Freeman" the story maybe be difference. In my opinion this movie direct by Cristophe Gans is the best work from Dacascos until this days and still a great action movie.
Whatever befell _Crying Freeman,_ one thing that he is most likely grateful for is that the film was where he met actress Julie Condra, whom he later married and to whom he is still married to this day, if the official Instagram pages for both of them are anything to go by. My favourite 1990s film with Mark in it is _Drive,_ especially the Director’s Cut, and I also thought he was superb in _American Samurai,_ in which he played the lead villain, with David Bradley playing the protagonist. _Drive_ is phenomenal, and really showcased Mark’s abilities fantastically. Hard to believe that the budget was just USD3.5m and it all seems so slick. I found _Crying Freeman_ rather empty and drab, with rather bad acting, and Mark not being used to his fullest potential. He was just right for the part, but I just felt his talents were underused in that film, not helped by the fact that I had seen the original Japanese anime not long beforehand and enjoyed it.
So happy to see some love for Mark. Been a huge fan of his since I was a kid and watched him star in the Crow Stairway to heaven as a kid. Was ecstatic when he also showed up in the American Adaption of one of my favorite Kamen Rider Series. This man deserves a whole lot more love.
I first seen MD in 'Only the Strong'. Then I watched 'Drive', holy cow the fight scenes in that are still so good today especially the final fight scene.
Even if it was some kind of mix up with only the strong and double dragons he really is an amazing martial artist and actor and really deserves better.Sure drive and crying freeman is great and the series crow stairway to heaven where he pretty much played Brandon is great to0.Personally i think many of this famous actors like Keanu Reeves,Arnold,Stallone and such are overrated and people like Mark are underrated and treated unfair. He are also a werry humble and nice guy that are happy with what he got.I think Dacascos should have the lead in the John Wick movies cause he got more experience in martial arts and different kinds of movies then Reeves.Does "A list actors" really gets spoiled and are overrated in my opinion.Mark should not be cursed just cause some movies flopped and this should not be about race at all.Its pretty sad and tradical how egotistical some humans can be sometimes.Great video by the way.Mark is a hero of mine.
I've been a fan of Mark Dacascos since the first movie I saw him in...which sadly was Double Dragon. The movie may suck, but he lifts it up a notch. I could see he was a great fighter and his personality really shined despite the lousy script. Ever since then I'll watch him in anything and I get really excited when I know he's in something. Drive and Brotherhood of the Wolf are two of my favorites. Great video!
He’s one of my favorite hollywood martial artist. I also got started with Van Damme and was a huge fan if his as well, but after seeing him in only the strong, i became a follower.
Way underrated. I watched the hell out of Only the Strong. Such an underrated film.
Mark was totally underrated. Drive for example was such an awesome movie as well as Sabotage
He’s one of my favorite hollywood martial artist. I also got started with Van Damme and was a huge fan if his as well, but after seeing him in only the strong, i became a follower. Crying freeman was also one of my favorite movie of his. I think that he’s such an underrated martial artist in the film industry, but i’m glad that at least he’s still around, unlike quite a few of the once hit action stars.
