Your video helped me to get the top cover off my steering column. 3:16 I used a 4mm socket to remove that reverse torx bolt. Thank you for showing this. Other videos don't. You saved many of us a lot of head aches.
Just done one today. I think I used a 2.5mm to get that top torx out. That shroud is a pain to get back on. Pulling the ignition itself isn't a problem at all. My lishi reading was off too. Had this lady over top of me watching the whole time.
The GM39 lishi does work on the door on these. I just did one today. Reading was a little off on the 1 cuts. They read between 1 and 2 but I got it figured out and a good code.
Good to know. I personally have had bad reads off the door locks on these. So I tend to not waste my time in cutting multiple keys. I prefer to pull ignition and cut one key.
I didnt see that you replaced that reversed torx or the screw on top. Maybe you did but just didnt show it. I try to do things i need to get done and do myself. 70 here. Lol . When ibought this car last year 2005 lesabre custom its needed a few things. It came with only 1 key. Since visiting local junk yard I've seen cars that have 2 keys and the little black piece to open and close, I was thinking of changing one of those to my car. Now not sure because they are not same year or maybe different model buick. I also need a piece that is behind the trim where you turn on air conditioner. It looks like someone already had the steering wheel cover off and didn't replace properly. Any help from anyone appreciated
I did the same thing inought a steering column and took the job the ignition out from one put it in the other and nothing won to crank...do I need to reset the system
I have a 2000 LeSabre where the key can be removed from the ignition in any position. Yet the ignition can't be turned without the key inserted. It might be caused by a sidebar that is partially worn down, enough to allow the key to be removed in any position but not enough that that the ignition can turned without the key. Or the metal barrel in the steering column that the cylinder fits into is worn down and allowing the sidebar to relax in any position. Any thoughts for a remedy that a DIYer could do?
If key cuts top and bottom match, it allows key to work both ways, so it can't be inserted incorrectly. If top and bottom cuts are different, it's more secure and will only insert 1 way.
They want to charge me $275. If I can get this out myself think they would charge less?? I'm not worried about cosmetics, i got the car cheap because it had been raided by the cops, they went THROUGH this poor thing.
Dude you are butchering the fucking shit out of that thing! Go to 1A Auto look at Chevy venture or anything go to anybody but this guy he has no clue what he's doing.
What was butchered exactly?? I removed the cylinder and cut a key for it. Did not break a thing. This is Locksmithing. 1A Auto is not a locksmith resource.

Sounds like you do need to reset it. Leave key in the on position for 30 minutes with jumper cables attached.
Do you know if the 1998 buick century custom has the key code on the lock cylinder?

My key will register once it is in and ding but it won't turn any advice on getting it out in this situation
What transponder are you using? What is the year, make, and model?

What’s your point? Yes, it is a double sided key cut on both sides for “convenience” however the cylinder is single sided.
@@donovang__3317 apparently my reading of your post wasn't correct, it seemed you didn't know about convenience cut side. have a nice day, later
@@donovang__3317what is name of the part?

Anyone know where I can get that plastic thumb turn piece?
Now how easy it is to takeoff I'm headed to junk yard.
Instead use a tryout key to rake it.
That is an option. Not for me to use try out keys but it would work. Now on these ignitions I use a key cut to 2&3 and rake.
Nice
