When you drive in a city like Los Angeles, The Camry Hybrid will get the gas mileage you expect. WTF is a mild hybrid? Does that mean that when I'm inching along at 10 or 15 mph, the Chevrolet will be getting the same mpg as an old Ford Tempo?
Malibu was probably in the junkyard before 100000 miles while rumor has it that the Camry is still on the job delivering Pizza's somewhere with 300000 miles on the original battery pack
I love the Camry, the hybrid is fast, feels like a v6 almost....and Toyota has been doing the Hybrids for a long time, they got it worked out perfect. I also have a Z28 for a cruiser, haha.
I wish MotorWeek would do an 'Update' for these two vehicles. A Long Term over 10 year Update. Meaning which car has lasted over 10 years. I am willing to bet the Camry out lasted the Malibu. We have a 2007 Camry XLE that runs fine and has not cost us much in repairs. My friend has a 2007 Camry Hybrid that is still running strong as well...
Too bad in the summary they completely ignored the fact that the camry hybrid would be a lower maintenance vehicle and is much faster than the Malibu hybrid.
My 2015 Avalon is a bigger car and I get 38 MPG. Would think the smaller Camry would get at least 40 MPG. 34 MPG doesn't save enough gas money to justify the additional cost of the hybrid, IMHO.
@imzjustplayin That's simply not true. The 2011 Prius only got average marks for head injury measurements in the IIHS front offset crashtest(the whole crash test was rated good, but you have to look at the specifics too). In the NHTSA front crash test, the 2011 Prius got only 4 out of 5 stars for the driver and passenger. In the side impact crash test, the Prius only scored 4 out of 5 starts for the passenger. In conclusion, the Malibu and Camry are FAR FAR safer cars than Prius/Fusion
yeah you have to love those american/mexican cars. i have had four toyotas and all beat gm and chrysler out of the water. gm and chrysler really need to get there act together.
Why is everyone so stupid if you want a hybrid just get a Toyota Prius it is only 22,000 and it gets 51 MPG city the most fuel efficient and affordable hybrid out there. And I don't like foreign cars better than domestic cars but this just makes sense!
ok the camry is more expensive but when the malibu is 3 or 4 years old will be more cheap than the camry because the malibu depreciate allot. so is true that the malibu interior is alot better than the boring interior of the camry.
Tom Shong EPA changed the rating process for the 2008 model year. Everything rated 2007 and older is on a different scale and almost everything ended up with a lower rating.
The Malibu "hybrid" system seems to be a beefy auto start-stop motor. That helps make Malibu cheaper to buy. I guess you could manually shut off a gas engine every time you reach a stop in a regular car, but you would be putting wear and tear on a starter not designed for heavy use.
Yeah. That's true. Besides..., the T. Camry's interior quality isn't all that good! It's cheap looking compared to the new Ford Fusion and, Chevy Malibu...but, the exterior of the T. Camry is nice. ;-)
@imzjustplayin You're wrong. go to safercar dot gov and got to iihs dot org. I think you just don't know how to read the ratings. I've been looking at these ratings for well over a decade. BTW when you click on the front test ratings at iihs for the Fusion, it only got average for the head/neck and left foot measurements. On NHTSA ratings at safercar the 2010 Fusion did a little better, but still got only 4 stars out of 5 for side impact passenger ratings.
Our malibu (2005ls) has 216,711 as of today and i don't remember any major service breakdowns. Just got the new 2009 ltz and love it. The camry just doesn't catch me as a "nice" car. Looks cheap and has mom styling all over it.
So the reviewer doesn't even mention the huge difference in reliability quality and resale value between a Toyota and a Chevy car !!!!
Toyota beats Chevy at that.
my first car was a 2007 camry hybrid, it was the best first used car i could ask for. plenty of power and smooth ride
Was, and still is the best looking gen of Camry!! Damning with faint praise I know! Haha!

Best comment on here.

i didn't even know Malibu had a hybrid i see nothing but Toyota hybrids of all kinds

I miss this show and all the host.
My family now has a baseline 2008 Camry in our driveway. We love it. Not a hybrid but still great gas mileage.
Those burn oil but still run
Toyota Camry Hybrid is the highlight of the scene.

Awesome 😃 👍 2009 Toyota Camry hybrid vs 2009 Chevy Malibu hybrid review .
The Prius and Ford Fusion have much worse crash test ratings than the Malibu and Camry Hybrids and that takes them out of the equation for me.
the camry can make up value in resale
hmmmm a Chevy Malibu Hybrid. More expensive than a BMW to upkeep. cheap, rental car feeling car. yuck.

@marybuggy1 Actually, Ford's Fusion Hybrid uses alot of Toyota's technology.
Because they know toyota is the shit
im still wondering ilovenissan, what SUV do you drive?
Dude, this is produced in Georgetown, Kentucky by American workers who have a Union and get paid well.
How do u measure carbon footprint?
yeah you have to love those american/mexican cars. i have had four toyotas and all beat gm and chrysler out of the water. gm and chrysler really need to get there act together.
@YUBU8 ever think why camry costs more?

counkev because some ppl still want sedans
wow, i wonder what kind of suv you have then?
haha John Davis still does this?!?!
you get what you pay for. you pay more for the camry because it is made better.

Why is that the 2007 Camry Hybrid get up to 38 city and 38 MPG Hwy and this 2009 is rated lower?

CAMRY!!!!!!....i love toyota........

I guess you could manually shut off a gas engine every time you reach a stop in a regular car, but you would be putting wear and tear on a starter not designed for heavy use.
But unreliable
Did he say 250k miles to break even @ $4gallon. Camry might have a better/efficient engine but it's interior looks so boring compared to the malibu.
Yeah. That's true. Besides..., the T. Camry's interior quality isn't all that good! It's cheap looking compared to the new Ford Fusion and, Chevy Malibu...but, the exterior of the T. Camry is nice. ;-)
Malibu is cheap built to
@@issavibez394 Unfortunately. 😆
@@GODs_Son777 even worse anything from GM and still is
@issavibez394 Atleast it's not Chrysler.
Get the Toyota… you’ll have peace of mind

Camry styling went downhill after this generation.
the interior is so much nicer in the malibu. I really dont like toyotas interiors.
Actually, both are good cars. It would be good to have either.

gpgab971 How’s That horrible resale value? Lol
The 2010 Ford Fusion is going to be waaaay better! ;-)
But 10x times more repair maintenance and recalls i so na

@@GODs_Son777 k go ahead keep buying those have more problem waste more terrible resale value
I take the toyota chevy lol
This Malibu was so good looking. The current generation is really a nicer car overall, but not quite as attractive IMO.
i agree
American is the best
They are the best at breaking and depreciating a whole lot! Out of any other car 10 times more recalls and routine fix hell na waste of money
nissan is actually consistently worse in quality
Till this day people still buy Nissan very disappointing people praise it and know nothing about most cars ahaha
Just to let you know, Ford Fusion is 100% made in Mexico, is this an american car or mexican made? Buy American made in another country? BS
It's an iffy subject. Most toyotas are made in the US, so is it American? All Hyundais and Kias are made in US too (that are sold here).
Thats becuz you're blind.....
CAMRY ROOOOOOOOOOOCKS ! (Y)
