    1. Transatlanticism
Could listen to this front-back forever
    2. Thank You For Today
I think this is severely underrated, the soundscapes on this album is amazing and everything flows well and reminds me of something like Kid A or Amnesiac with more guitars, I don’t like ‘You Moved Away’
    3. Narrow Stairs
Great soundscapes and great storytelling, I think ‘You Can Do Better Than Me’ is underrated and easy front-back listen
    4. The Photo Album
Pure indie gold; easy front to back listen. Love almost all of it except for ‘We Laugh Indoors’
    5. We Have The Facts And We’re Voting Yes
Pure lofi greatness, love almost everything except for ‘Little Fury Bugs’ and ‘No Joy In Mudville’
The most lo-fi and more poppier (in my opinion) than transatlanticism
    6. Plans
Love a lot of this album, it’s a perfect night time record. While I like all of it, I only really listen to the last three songs on it
    7. Kintsuigi
This record would’ve been better if it was more emotional, less poppy and like their tiny desk
Love ‘Hold No Guns’,’No Room In Frame’.
    8. Asphalt Meadows
Not an album I’ve listen to front to back, but it seems very carefree and existential, and there are a million better songs from DCFC I’d rather listen to, I like all of that albums singles, and ‘Foxglove Through The Clearcut’
    9. Something About Airplanes
I haven’t listened to all of this album, but when I do it’s ’Your Bruise’, and ‘Champaign From A Paper Cut’, also way to Built To Spill for me

Great video! I couldn't do this selection. I'd find myself rearranging the ranking order over time since it will always depend on my current state of mind

Early Death Cab holds a special place in my heart for numerous reasons. It was one of the first indie rock bands i heard at the beginning of the 2000's (thanks to the Soul meets body video being played constantly on MTV) and made me "dig" for more indie bands instead of only listening to the top 40. Although i don't like too much the direction they went with/after Plans ( An "B" record along with the Narrow Stairs and Photo Album) but Transatlanticism (+A) is my favorite as all of the songs are really well crafted imo (even the demo versions that had alternate versions are good) and have a lot of nostalgia and good memories attached to that album. "We have the Facts.." ("A" record for me) has really good songs and i liked how it has a kinda Slowcore vibe with some of the songs. Most of the newest records and the first record fall into my "C" section just because i don't return to them or find them as memorable as the other records. The only record i didn't like was the last one ("D" record), as it seem more like a Ben Gibbard solo record and the songs sounding to samey for me to return to them (although i liked " I Dream We Spoke Again" and "60 & punk" )

the writing in marching bands of manhattan and brothers on a hotel bed are some of the greatest i've ever heard/read. right on par with the writing on transatlanticism.

Just confusing why you guys all dislike codes and keys?
Albeit I’m 16 who started to fall in this band, I’ve listened to all of its album and codes and keys is surely one of their best album!

I think it’s just that compared to their other albums, it doesn’t hold up as strongly. I mean, it’s not a bad album but I just feel they had better records. No hatred for Codes and Keys at all!

    • @真郑
      @真郑 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TheMusicNarrative Yeah that’s a good point, but many fans in China still considerate Kintsugi and Thank you for today as the worst, they think codes and keys are more related to narrow stairs’s rating

It grew on me, personally I think my problem is it doesnt hold up to a full listen, but a lot of the songs on it are great (Sycamore, Monday, Portable). It also started their transition to the more electronic modern sound they’ve had which I’m just not a fan of.

Maybe because I'm from an older generation, I would put your two C albums on top: #1 Thank You For Today and #2 Codes And Keys. Both fantastic albums! "Near/Far" and "When We Drive" are my top 2 DCFC songs, but that's just me! Here is my trumpet cover version of "Near/Far": th-cam.com/video/Aqq9PqNIWmI/w-d-xo.html
