    Japanese is one of those languages I've always just really enjoyed the sound of, and for some reason it's even more so when it's sung. Something about the cadence (not in the musical sense, only the linguistic) of it because of how it's structured? I can hear it (I think) and see it when it's subtitled phonetically, but I don't know enough to actually explain it. It sounds great, that is all.

    • @Snow-Willow
      @Snow-Willow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I'm the same. For me I think it's the simplicity and purity of its sounds that appeals to me. Coming from English where we have hundreds of thousands of sounds to my native language to Japanese that has something around a few thousand. It's the crispness of the vowels that does it for me.

    • @dasyeah2695

      it probably japanese language doesnt use single alphabet except for "n".. but its construct phonetically.. its structure uses a lot Copula verbs (also known as linking verbs) which make it really smooth and also very easy to rhyme where many word would end in vowel which make listening to japanese music usually pleasing to hear

    • @xXBenutzer235Xx
      @xXBenutzer235Xx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know I'm late but I think what makes Japanese sound so nice is that they basically have a strictly vowel-consonant-vowel-consonant etc progression in their language. With one small exception there are no single consonants in Japanese so the letters/Kana are things like "mo", "ha", "ru" etc. its always either a consonant followed by a vowel or just the vowel on its own. That gives it a really nice flow I feel like.

  • @Bobbias

    I understand enough Japanese to piece together the phrases with subs, and I can say that the places where her voice breaks make sense lyrically. She is extremely connected to the lyrics. Every cry, every break, every flip from one placement to another fits perfectly with the lyrics.

    I wish I could give you more than one thumb's up! You are so spot on going back and adding text to share your thoughts rather than breaking up the song to the point of making the experience downright frustrating, regardless how valid the points. When you did break was a perfect point, it was right at that octave drop that was almost a growl, for me it was a "Damn, if I was half listening a second ago, you have my undivided attention now" moment. LiSa's range is somewhere between S-Rank and Kami-Level, her vibrato is so well executed she makes it feel "easy". LiSa's songs are so much fun to mix with I can personally attest to club and festival goers all over the world expressing their feeling her on the dance floor or out in the grass and mud in dance even though they had never heard her singing before I fed her tracks into my mixing board and with a little sampling and mixing I made the beats my own letting her amazing voice prove that great singing and great beats are Universal and can supersede any language barrier.

    Thanks for this reaction. I found LiSa's voice interesting in that it felt like it was constantly being 'held back' or squeezed, like water trying to rush through a narrow opening under pressure, so it came out in a very direct and focussed way, but didn't seem to have a lot of 'fullness'. I guess that is what you mean by, "compression" versus being, "free." If you like anime and you're used to listening to Japanese-style vocals and musical styles, I'd recommend The Wagakki Band. They are a Japanese 'Folk-Rock/Pop/Metal/Jazz/Classical/Rap/Punk/whatever-they-feel-like-being-today band that combines traditional instruments (wagakki) and singing styles (shigin) with conventional rock instruments, rap and clean vocals. The founder and lead vocalist is Yuko Suzuhana, who is a tiny girl with a massive voice and sings and raps in conventional and 'shigin' style (traditional Japanese poetry recital) vocals. She has a much more full and open sound with a crazy vibrato, and mixes her singing with traditional fan dancing, parasol dancing and sword dancing (kenbu)
    They have covered a lot of vocaloid anime themes in their earlier songs, like 'Rokuchounen to Ichya Monogatari' (A Tale of Six Trillion Years and a Night), 'Tengaku' (Music from the Heavens), 'Senbonzakura' (Thousand Cherry Blossoms) and 'Noushou Sakurestu Girl' (Brain Fluid Explosion Girl), but a lot of their later, self-written songs have been used in anime aswell, like 'Ikusa' (War), 'Nadeshiko Sakura' (Pink Cherry Blossoms) in Sengoku Musou (Samurai Warriors); 'Valkyrie', 'Keika' (Over the Passage of Time?) in 'Sousei no Onmyouji' (Twin Star Exorcists); Sasameyuki (Snowflakes) in 'Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes' (Holmes of Kyoto), 'Seimei no Aria' (Aria of Life) in 'Mars Red'; 'Hangeki no Yaiba' (Counterattack Sword) in 'Hangeki no Noroshi' (Attack on Titan - Smoke Signal of the Counterattack), aswell as a new song they are writing as the closing theme for the Kabuki Theatre version of 'Naruto'. Their song 'Kishikaisei' (Return from the Dead) was the TV theme for the 2016 Olympics on Japanese TV and they have written a new song as a theme for another TV show 'Starlight', which s a bit more mainstream and conservative.
    The best tracks for analysing Yuko's voice are probably the slower ballads, most of which she writes, like 'Sabaku no Komoriuta' (Desert Lullaby), 'Izana' ('Powerful Woman'), 'Queen of the Night' or 'Okino no Tayu' (Albatross), but they also do a collabroation with Amy Lee from Evanescence of 'Bring Me To Life', where Amy and Yuko do a duet, with Machiya (lead guitar) doing the harsh vocals, although his sound is turned down a little too low in the mix, so it loses its impact (Premium Symphonic Night, Vol 2, with full orchestra). My favourites are 'Ignite' (fast, almost-punk rock and rap) and 'Synchronicity' (jazz / swing style duet - a conversation between a couple who are body-swapped by a lightning strike).

    At least on this First Take, at the end she explains it was hard for her not to disconnect from the song personally so her emotions are at the very least partially real. "I sang it like I would on a show".
    Which takes me back to Final Operation Concert last song Ichiban No Takaramono... the first time I saw LiSa (although online) and for both real world reasons and the anime it was connected, it was a literal tear jerker and it shows that she matured as a singer since she can hold her emotions better (as far as I can see)

    I came to your channel to let you know that MAMAMOO just dropped a new mini album and that the title track is a MUST watch and react - and then I see this video!!!
    I love Demon Slayer and have just watched the movie 2 weeks ago. I have listened to this performance a hundered times and it always made me emotional, but now... after the movie... I just get so many flashbacks and want to cry ;.;
    P.S. please react to MMM - Where are we now

    Hi Julia, I enjoyed you reacting to Lisa. I also really would like to see you reacting to one of the Japanese Diva, Misia, singing ''Ashitae'' in The First Take. She made this song to dedicate to the people lost and hurt by the Tsunami and Earthquake happened in Tohoku, Japan. She has put a lot of emotion into this song to mourn the lost and to have hope towards tomorrow. Lyrics are very nice also. Another one from Misia is called Higher Love, also in The First Take which has different vibe that would give you warmth and joy through this performance. Thank you for your consideration and looking forward to your reactions.

    Not sure if you watched the end of the video after you wrapped up but part of the breakages towards the end was also that she was holding back tears from how singing the song was making her feel in the moment. I haven't watched the movie or heard a studio version so I'm not sure how much of that is in that version but the real emotion in this one was an extra kick in the feels for me

    Hi, Julia!
    It was really interesting to listen to your comments on the details of her performance. LiSA is not one of my favourite singers, but her performances had made her grow on me, and it's cool to realise how much work and control on her instrument is needed to pull off something like this.
    I think the couple of times she's worked with Yuki Kajiura (Homura's composer) the outcome has been quite cool!
    People in comment section have been mentioning some cool artists featured on The First Take. Hope you get the chance to check some of them..!
    Thanks for the video, Julia! See you in the next one!

    Julia! Now would be the ideal time for me to recommend "Lovebites - Winds Of Transylvania [VLADLOVE Version] (Music Video)". It's the theme tune to the anime series Vlad Love, which Lovebites were specially commissioned to write for the series.

    I'm no vocal coach, but I love how you can really feel LiSa's tension. For me the breath and 'holding back' just lead up to the explosive ending

    I’m really looking forward to a BAND-MAID ft. LiSA song for an anime one day. Would be fantastic. Akane is a super fan-girl of LiSA, most likely because she is a big anime otaku and LiSA is anisong royalty nowadays. There’s a really lovely photo of Band-Maid with LiSA at Tower Records with Akane hugging LiSA, when Band-Maid were doing their promotion rounds for their album CONQUEROR and bumped into LiSA there.
    The other vocalist I’d love to hear with Band-Maid would be aimer, partially because I’d love to hear another Kanami-MISA ballad masterpiece to match aimer’s unique voice.

    Julia! I too have been waiting for you to react to Lisa. Take all of the previous positive comments and just cut and paste them here.
    One thing, you missed the best part, her own reaction to finishing the song. I hope you did go back and watch that.
    Showed this to my friends, they said she was "good". I need new friends! Keep up the great work!

    LISA''s tone, emotion and stamina are great. What do you think about her breathing technique, though. It seems she relies on quick noisy gasp even when she has more than enough time to inhale more linearly over a longer period whch would give her more breath and less intake sound. I understand that this song has so many other things to think about and she does a remarkable job getting it all done in one take with so many vocal colors over a wide range in its faster tempo. So she deserve much credit for such an overall beautiful performance. Thanks for another great reaction.
