Hi Claire We are all so busy right now but I do want to thank you very much for getting back to me. I have emailed your father too and he has kindly got back to me. This is a steep learning curve for me and I am sure for others too. I am getting there. I have used the platform 'Zoom' and am now having a go at using 'Stream Yard' which by the way I like a lot. It seems very easy to use. I have been following the Learning Streams Pros LSP (Luria and Dave) each morning at 5.00 a.m. NZ time. It is great to get up early! I will keep getting there! Thank you again Claire!
This is the best video I have seen on this topic! I am a dance teacher and I have been trying to explain to my husband exactly this so he can help me find the best mic option fast... I can't offer good lessons if the sound is not right. There should be a paltform to stream online live dance classes! Than you sooo much
Hi. I'm a ballroom dancing teacher in the UK, and have been doing a few Zoom Classes with mys tudents since the Lockdown. I've tried a variety of set-ups, ipad, windows laptop, external speakers, all sorts! Your video has been really useful, so I'm about to get all my equipment back out and try the setup you've talked about. I know my students have a much better experience if they connect their bluetooth speaker, so I'm guessing you've found that too. Thanks again, stay safe and keep enjoying dancing.
tq so much very helpful especially separate voice & music..i almost give up thinking how to make good music sound for my zumba virtual class..after i see your video i can solve my prob!!
when i use music and mic, they sound very well but there is a delay between de spunds and the video (the steps) that my students get. Did it happen to you? is there any way to solve this and to help the studens get the sounds and the video (with me danging, movement) at the same time?
Matias Maler To help reduce lag, be sure your laptop is connect directly to the Ethernet cord and not WiFi... this will increase you internet speeds tremendously! Also tel your students to connect their computers to Ethernet if they can. This definitely helped me reduce lag and choppiness in the video.
Great info! These were the tech topics in my planning about how to effectively teach dance online through Zoom. Teaching dance in a classroom requires multi-tasking, but this adds one more layer to facilitating competent instruction. Our in-home testing with Zoom did not go so well. It's a bit frightful... but feeling more confident. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this, very clear and helpful. What I find with Zoom is that it does not keep to the beat and my voice/ dance movements do not sync to the music. I currently share my sound through the advanced option you mentioned and use a playlist on Spotify. Any tips for this?
Thank you so much for this. I don't have a mic (don't use one in class) and am a bit clueless with them tbh, I'm playing the music through my laptop by sharing as you have said which is fine. The trouble is when I run over the steps before I put the music on, they can't hear me . I think I just need to bite the bullet and get a wireless microphone that can connect to my laptop and try it! Any recommendations? I've been looking at the hey mic one . Thanks again (from Scotland!), and stay safe!
Sorry for the delay getting back to you, it's been a crazy month!!! Try adjusting your audio levels to see if that helps. These can be found in your "Account Settings" under "Audio" or when in a meeting, click the arrow next to the microphone icon. At the bottom of the list is "Audio Settings..." If that makes no difference then definitely look into an external microphone. xoxo
Hi, which cable(s) do you use to connect your receiver to the audio interface? Im thinking of buying the audio interface but not sure my Samson airline 77 headset fits.
Thank you for sharing your tips! I can’t wait to test it out for my upcoming summer classes! Also, To help reduce lag, be sure your laptop is connect directly to the Ethernet cord and not WiFi... this will increase you internet speeds tremendously! Also tel your students to connect their computers to Ethernet if they can. This definitely helped me reduce lag and choppiness in the video.
Hi, thanks fir th3 tips, I use a head mic fir my classes and have my Mac connected to my Bose system, will that work ok with the audio setting as suggested, so my class can hear music and me talking, and so I can also hear music and myself talking? How do you set zoom so only host is shown? It could be a bit much to share my screen with 40 dancers! I think I know how to mute everyone, I’m just scared to try a meeting/class, and worried my dancers won’t know how to use zoom....is it safe to post zoom meeting link into my private Facebook groups so they can join me? Or do I have to use email? ....thank you for any help you can offer me
Hi Lisa sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Your audio set up sounds like it should work great! Just make sure you're not too close to the Bose speaker as your mic may pick it up a bit. You can "spotlight" your video feed so stidents will see you as the main screen on their end. Have a look at the Zoom support page for more info. support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362653-Spotlight-A-Video?mobile_site=true
Thank you so much Claire for this awesome video!! I am trying to figure out how to get the sound set up using zoom. I have been teaching guitar, ukulele and beginning piano face to face but am now going to teach online because of the COVID19 outbreak which is affecting everyone of us. But who knows this may be the beginning of a new way of teaching. Ok I am getting there. I want to do the following each at the same time . (1) Play a track of music from my computer. (2) Speak or sing while the track is being played. (3) Play with the track as it is being played and my voice is being heard. (4) Be seen playing my instrument while the above 3 points above are happening. (5) Be able to play with my student-being in sync. I really appreciate what you have said in this video and maybe you will have some light to shed as I ask the 5 questions above.
Hi George. So sorry I didn't reply earlier! I must have missed your comment! Most of your points can be addressed usi g the info in this video. Music lessons with backing tracks are a bit harder to run mostly due to the lag. Unfortunately there's no fix for that lag as it's just a standard problem. If you run private lessons you could send the track to your students and get them to play it on their end. This way the playback to you won't suffer a lag. In a group situation this is obviously not possible. I have some colleagues who teach singing lessons, I'll ask them what they have been doing to manage this
To help reduce lag, be sure your laptop is connect directly to the Ethernet cord and not WiFi... this will increase you internet speeds tremendously! Also tel your students to connect their computers to Ethernet if they can. This definitely helped me reduce lag and choppiness in the video.
Thank you, I am also struggling to project my voice while i was playing Apple music during my HIIT classes, my voice was drown in the music.Cheers, take care and stay safe.
So very helpful!!! Thank you ever so much! One additional quick question: When using settings for sharing separate audio line for one's voice, is it still possible to control the volume and song selection from one's phone? Looking forward to your response! :)
Thank you for this. It’s really relatable and useful. Can I ask about your radio mic ? You said you clip it on to your clothes. Have you done this for any high energy classes? Do you get a lot of clothes ruffling interference etc? I’m thinking of investing in one but I don’t want a headset mic and I’ve only ever had radio mics attached through wigs or by my ear in shows. I’m wondering if a lapel mic is gonna be ok for a high impact dance-based fitness class. Thanks
There is a lag issue with music playing through zoom and my voice. I'm singing along with my music for my music class for toddlers and families. Any tips?
It should definitely be there on the free version. You will need to check your device's operating system to see if it is able to run this feature in zoom. It may also display differently depending on the device you are using. Check this help article from Zoom for more info. support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362643-Sharing-Computer-Sound-During-Screen-Sharing?mobile_site=true
@@DanceGeek Yes, I have already disabled the first two that you mentioned and enabled show in-meeting option. Some days it works fine, other days not so much! Can it be b/c so MANY people are on zoom at the same time?! Thanks again.
Many thanks for the tutorial. I teach dance and am trying to set up Zoom so I can teach virtually. I want students to hear both the music in good quality and my voice in appropriate balance. But despite having all the settings as per the tutorial, either they hear me or they hear the music but the moment we try to have both, it doesn't work, the music quality drops to background and it's unusable. So far I've tried with a Bose bluetooth headset and a Sennheiser USB headset (no good for me to move around with but anyway good to test). The Bose is like a radio mic - I can move, but its internal mic isn't clear enough for speaking together with music. But in both cases, we couldn't get the music and voice to work together - one or the other. I have a Shure radio mic, so that's my next try - much more complicated because then I need to use a mixer and sound card. Still, I don't understand why we can't get the Bose and Sennheiser to work as it seems they should... Nick
I tried a few more things and it seems to me that - Bluetooth headsets don't work with Zoom and computer sound - you can have good music sound or good mic sound but not both; the only way I can get good mic and music sound is by using an external mic through a sound card or mixer; a good singer's mic gave good results but it isn't good to move with, so the best compromise is a radio mic going into a sound card or mixer. nick
@@hikingistanbul4355 I managed to figure out a setup which works well for online teaching with a good level and quality of both music and voice; it requires a radio mic, a bluetooth speaker, a sound card and a mac; if anyone has the same gear, I'm happy to share my settings - it wasn't easy to get everything to work... you can reach me at nick
