  • Cab ride in Electro Diesel 73 210 (hauling 3CIG 1497) from Wymondham Abbey to Dereham, filmed in August 2012. Part one is the journey to Thuxton with Kimberley Park and Hardingham stations seen en route. The short sequence at the beginning shows the traction at Dereham shortly before the ED propelled the CIG to Wymondham Abbey. The tripod wasn't in good shape so apologies if the camera isn't aiming straight ahead at times, this improves as the video progresses.

Wish these were used more often. Be great when the refurbishments are completed.

I don't think the line to County School will be open for regular passenger traffic or Driver Experience courses for a little while yet. An East Midlands HST on a charity rail tour from London was allowed up as far as Hoe recently but these trains run once a year if that. I'm not local I'm afraid so I don't know if the railway plans to extend to Fakenham or even if the trackbed is still clear.

Many thanks. I was the one driving. The MNR operates a wide range of driver experience courses with a variety of traction. Thoroughly recommended! ;-)

@@ValentaLamenter It helps if your job comes with an all-line British personal cabpass. I have ridden a Class 73 208 from Victoria to Gatwick, on electric power, on official duty. I have also got invited into the cab loads of times in France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Italy and Canada. While on my many cabrides in Hungary, the train driver insisted that I drive. Whilst in Switzerland, SBB will sell a cabpass over sections of the St Gotthard Pass, the price covers the cost of an accompanying traction inspector. My British cabrides number in excess of 350, including Class 67s Edinburgh to Inverness and Aberdeen to Edinburgh, and Norwich to Lowestoft, Class 37 from Edinburgh to Fort William, Class 57 from Crewe to Holyhead, Class 66 from North Walsham to Harwich, HST Paddington to Bristol, Class 91 Kings Cross to York, Class 87 Euston to Wolverhampton, and cleared most of the Class 86 and 90 fleet. Class 47s from Cambridge to Norwich and to Yarmouth. Class 31 from Leicester to Kettering. Favourites have to include a French CC72100 from Paris Est to Troyes, courtesy of the SNCF Chairman, and a Portuguese 1931 along the Douro. Or the F40 across Labrador. German 232 and 233 in Hungary. M61s and M62s also in Hungary, plus a Danish MY.
