I always have a problem with the mark scheme. I’m usually getting the knowledge right and put down what I think but I always find that the mark scheme wanted the same idea worded differently, and because of this I lose marks unnecessarily. How am I able to tell how the question wants me to word something? For example at 20:10, I would have put ‘schizophrenia is influenced more by genetics than environment’, would I have got the mark? If not, how am I supposed to tell I need to put ‘greater’ and ‘lesser’
Hi! I think you would get the mark if you put that because you used comparative language ("more...than.."). You need to use that kind of language if the question is asking you to compare results (or inferring that you need to). The best thing to do is to look at the command word in the question e.g. describe, evaluate, explain, compare etc. I think I'm going to make a video soon about how to word answers to exam questions. For questions that are fact recall, I would recommend adding points from the mark scheme to your notes so you know what kind of words the examiner wants. Also, do lots and lots of practice as you tend to "get to know" the mark scheme very well by the end! :)
Hello, for question 1a how do you know that the species were geographically isolated? The questions states that the two species were found on mainland USA but not that they were geographically isolated. Would appreciate any help thank you!!
@@AlevelBiologyHelp so for the two original species was one of the specie mainland USA and then the other specie on the Caribbean island? Because in the question it says ‘evolved from two species found on mainland USA’- so did they first get separated before speciation occurred! So sorry for the load of questions, I really appreciate the video and found it very helpful but I’m just struggling a bit with that specific section of the question
@@alishahussain1431 No worries! Yes, they were separated before speciation occurred. So they were originally both from mainland USA, but became geographically separated (can be caused by things like natural disasters, migration etc), which lead to speciation. Hope this makes sense :)

Hi, the question is asking how the Caribbean species evolved, and the Caribbean is separate from mainland USA, so they were geographically isolated:)
