Good day Beth, I have somewhat of a Dilemma. Seeing all the father of the bride speeches on your channel is helping with a speech that I'm preparing. This is where i was thrown a loop. My daughter and my with loving wife didn't really agree on a father of the bride speech for myself to give by myself, so I was a little take back when they both agreed that it's just not about the father only speech, ...and so on........so my question comes down to this. is it a traditional speech a father gives at the wedding reception or, when is it appropriate? Now my daughter probably feels bad somewhat because mom is not participating in walking her down the aisle and.... I personally don't want both to feel this way........So moving forward both my wife and myself will be having a joint speech together but is this customary or does it just depend on the wishes of the bride.........help
Hi Robert. Congrats on your daughter's wedding! Lots of daughters want Mom to speak. I ghostwrite and edit mother of the bride, mother of the groom, and joint speeches all the time. It doesn't take anything away from dads -- it just gives some acknowledgement to the huge role moms play in our lives. Agreed, it may not be strictly traditional, but then again, those traditions were set up when daughters were seen as more as property than people, so maybe a little evolution isn't so terrible? :) Think of it like this -- if you and your wife were business partners, and your business won an award, would you feel left out if only your wife was asked to come onstage to accept it? Think of your daughter as your Oscar. You and your wife are going to go up and take joint credit for the wonderful job you've done raising her! Hi, would having my ex wife with me to tell some story’s ? One other thing my mother was close to my daughter and as passed on. I want to mention her in my speech but I know I will tear up and don’t want that what people remember my speech
As far as your ex - maybe just ask her if she’d like to say a few words. You can invite her to speak on her own or with you, whatever she’d prefer. This video has some tips on 2 person speeches: th-cam.com/video/d6c6oTyEVoU/w-d-xo.html
