Hi Robert. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, lots of dads worry about this! It even came up as a question in this video. Here's a link to my answer. th-cam.com/users/liveGkxZuJ7bsD8?feature=share&t=3815
Hey Beth Great tips. Your review of the best father of the bride speech, that speech was way long and intimidating. The video is near half hour. I'm so glad you said here shoot for 5 minutes, I've just relaxed. Broken into the sections 6 minutes it doesn't give room for a whole lot of stories and I speak fast. But I'm happy with 5 mins, I think long speeches aren't a good idea for either speakers or listeners.
Congrats on your daughter's wedding! That's a lot to deal with. To me, there are no right or wrong ways to do these. As long as your choice feels right between you and your daughter, you're good. As to how you'd come across as a father with Parkinsons, I can only speak for myself and say that if I were a guest at that wedding, I'd see any unexpected effort as testament to a dad's love for his daughter, and his desire not to let circumstances steal his moment. Remember, the people you're speaking to are your nearest and dearest, or at least the couple's nearest and dearest. They're not a random comedy club audience or conference attendees. They already love you, or at least they love the people that you love. They're gonna have all the patience in the world and be rooting for you. If you feel any tension, humor is a great way to break it. You can get some early laughs with a bit of gentle self-awareness -- which doesn't necessarily have to be self-deprecating. If you're more comfortable recording something so you can edit it and have it be the pace you prefer, go for it. Just make sure the venue and/or the wedding planner knows you're going to be playing a video, and knows how to make it look and sound amazing. (It's not difficult, just takes some advance notice.) Personally, I'd steer away from having music in something like that, only because it can compete with what's being spoken, even if it's in the background. Another way to go might be to write something and have someone read the speech for you live, maybe with you by their side. You could introduce the moment, but you wouldn't have to read the entire speech, if that feels like too much. Maybe your partner or another child could be the reader. One of your parents, if they're still with us? Or maybe your daughter's new spouse? That would certainly show the guests how you and the new partner feel about one another. In that case, maybe you could arrange for it to be a surprise for your daughter. If I saw my new partner do that for my dad, that would score some big points! But again, whatever you choose, whatever feels best for you and your family, that's the right decision.
I have been putting this off for awhile. I do not like talking in front of crowds. Daughter is getting married in 5 weeks. Thank you for this channel I will be checking your videos out.

Hello Beth. Thank you so much for your video. I have learned a lot of them. This is our first ever on the groom side. His wedding coming in 10 days, I will make it short . Hope getting it over without so nervous. Thanks again and have a nice day.😅
Hi there, Thanks for your insights - it’s really interesting to hear your thoughts and ideas. I know that you focus on wedding speeches however I’m about to have my son’s Barmitzvah where I’ll be giving a welcome speech. I’m interested to know if you feel there’s much of a difference to the structure? This is my 4th (& final) barmy welcome speech and I love adding silliness and fun to my speeches (eg I’ve made really silly entrances for my other lads Bar mitzvahs that set a very fun tone). That said, I also ensure I keep the content personal to my sons, with genuine and funny stories etc. As mentioned, I’m interested to know your thoughts on any ‘do & don’t’ areas that are different to other speeches such as wedding toasts. Thanks again for the really good content. All the best - Lawrence
Hi Lawrence. Congrats on all four bar mitzvahs, and thanks for the kind words! I'm editing a wedding speech do's and don'ts video right now. Will be up in a day or two. I think most of the content would also apply to bar/bat mitzvah speeches, though I guess for any parent I'd add, "Don't scar your child for life." 🤦♀️ (The non-joke version of that tip being, 'don't make it all about you.') - Also, be mindful of length -- less is more. 5ish minutes is longer than it sounds and is usually plenty. - Avoid inside jokes. Make sure everyone in the room can follow along. When in doubt, add a couple words of explanation. - Don't forget to say something nice about Mom. - Stay away from any mention of the 5 P's: profanity, poop, projectile vomiting, past partners and politics. They add unnecessary controversy (and nausea) to otherwise happy occasions. Hope that helps and mazel tov!

Hi! I bought the mother of bride template! Awesome! My ex passed away and I want to mention him somehow in a funny and emotional way. How to balance that?
Glad you’re finding it helpful! Yes, balance is key. A good way to do it acknowledge the absence and how much he would have enjoyed being there, and then to add something funny, eccentric or charming that he would have done or said if he were there. You could reference a phrase he was known for or a guilty pleasure. Would his speech have been 45 minutes long? 45 seconds long? Would his head have exploded at the idea of a chocolate fountain? In my opinion, if you want to keep a good relationship with your daughter, you say the same things you would if he were a good pick. Give them the benefit if the doubt. The speeches come after the ceremony. They’re already married. If you’re negative or passive-aggressive, you are the one who will look ungracious. You don’t have to heap tons of praise on him. Just find some good qualities to mention. What qualities does your daughter think he has?

When thanking the guest/ caterer do we verbally say lets get a round of applause or do we start clapping and wait for them to joi
If you lead the applause, people will follow, and they’ll also likely take the hint and do it spontaneously next time.
