  • Explore the next generation Mitsubishi sat nav with Konnie Huq. Watch and learn as she tests out the smartphone integrated navigation in the new Eclipse Cross. It was as simple as plugging in her iPhone to the Eclipse Cross using USB, pressing the on-wheel button to speak to Siri, and away she went.
Mitsubishi's navigation systems have been revamped to utilise the new Mitsubishi Entertainment System's Smartphone integration. When it came to the best in-car gps navigation, an integration with smartphones was the only smart choice.
By seamlessly linking her smartphone capabilities, Mitsubishi's car range now utilises intelligent GPS apps, such as Google Maps and Apple Maps, through specialised car integration apps, like Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay.
Gone are the days of painstakingly updating your car's built-in navigation system - your smartphone has already done this for you. What's more, by linking your Smartphone you can get live traffic updates and intelligent suggestions mid-journey, ensuring the most efficient route to your destination. There is no need to mount your phone to use its excellent real-time GPS navigation systems, simply plug in your phone to the USB port of your Mitsubishi car. You'll even get real-time speed limits (Apple Maps) and your estimated arrival time.
In our fast-paced and constantly evolving mobile world, having the benefits of your smartphone permanently connected to your car can only mean more intelligent and more up-to-date navigation abilities. And there are a load more benefits to having your smartphone integrated to your car than just easy navigation.
The only cost to you is the data your mobile will use when navigating, which is typically a tiny fraction of your monthly allowance - but you can always download your routes for free from the Wi-Fi at home before you leave.

I think this is better than having built in systems. My VW Caravelle’s system is appalling so I end up using Apple Car Play anyway.

The 2018 outlander has gps signals even if there's no smartphone connected. Does it mean it just uses the smartphones map and internet connection but uses the car's built-in gps for location?

Yep, that's a little bit of a problem as the only country in Europe where people don't have unlimited Internet is England

Worth noting that it only works with a live mobile data connection. so it's good until you lose your 3/4g connection then you're on your own.

Hi Andy, if you've plotted your route into the system whilst you have connection it will continue to take you along that route as normal even if it has lost connection momentarily. BM

I’m still unsure. I spoke to a dealer two days ago he said once I plot route I can turn data off. I’ve not heard this before so not sure which is true. Seems petty but if I’m already spending a lot on a car why spend more on data even a fiat 500 comes with sat nav doesn’t it? How does it save costs if I need extra data over eg 3 years.

this is all great, however, driving to another country you are not going to have this privilege of mobile data... This means, buying this car, you are grounded? No road trips? I can understand downloading all the maps you need and keeping offline, using only the GPS of the car for location on route, however, this comes with many disadvantages: no live traffic info, resulting in lack of re-routing to save time, no roadworks info appearing, most of all no chance to use options like avoiding of toll roads or motorways, etc. Personally, I see it more of a set back then a move forward.
