    I’m curious. Why are you so eager to ride a motorcycle on a bike trail? Why can’t you be happy on a motorcycle trail? There’s a reason bikes and hikers don’t want to share a trail with you. We had a place to ride 3 wheelers and dirtibikes for years, decades, local privately owned. The owner would come out and sit and visit with us when we were there. A few years ago I went there to ride and he had fenced it off. He pulled up and told me sorry he was tired of picking up garbage, someone had burned a stolen car there, and people were starting to camp there and when he told them they couldnt they called the police on him. He fenced it off and its gone. Also loud, COOL pipes, and lawyers have fucked it all up.@@GenghisKhan311

      Trail maintenance is a large part of differentiating uses, also what kind of multi use access is permitted. High speed and high torque will tear up a trail, causing much higher maintenance, and higher speeds can create hazards with walkers or other slower users, that may be avoided with pedal only use.
      E-bikes and other PEV types are relatively new products, and the laws and rules are only just starting to figure out how to manage them. Personally, I think trails should have a max speed limit, and some kind of wear and tear or gnarly rating, and users should respect that regardless of the vehicle type. With time, I hope we get effective and accommodating use laws that protect the public while also allowing fun with PEV's.

      A Surron is an electric dirt bike (motobike). It's not the same thing as an E-MTB. It has to have pedals and be limited to 20mph to ride e-bike trails.

    put a pedal kit on your bike and it can be ridden anywhere

    • @reelmtb
      @reelmtb ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not true. It still won't be a Class 1 or even a class 2 or 3 E-mtb. You need to learn the rules of e-mtb riding. I'm limited even with my class 1 (no throttle, 20mph max).

    • @joshp2608
      @joshp2608 ปีที่แล้ว

      @theblys Yes, actually, it is true. And I am plenty versed on ebike laws, so you can save your pretention for someone else, thanks.
      If the bike can be propelled by you pedaling it, then it can be operated as such, anywhere that a normal bike can be ridden. Whether it be a public roadway or a path limited to a specific class.
      It is true that these motors are far too powerful when unrestricted to be labeled as class 1,2, or 3. However by simply installing a pedal kit that can allow the user to propel the bike via pedaling while limiting/disabling the power from the motor, you actually can ride it anywhere a standard bike can be ridden.
      The reason is because that as long as the bike is limited to whatever the speed and variation of propulsion that the local regulations dictate pertaining to the path being traveled upon, then no crime is being committed.
      The laws labeling classes are in regards to the speed, motor wattage output, and method of input to propel the bike. A pedal kit can satiate all of those issues. Look into it. These bikes can very much fall into a hybrid Grey area. It's ok if you don't understand since you only have a class 1 bike.

      @@joshp2608does fitting a set of cranks and pedals to it automatically disable the throttle and limit the output of the motor? Or is that all still usable to the rider? Do people buy e-bikes and then not use the motor sometimes? I think motor assisted pedaling can be pretty handy for people who want to exercise but not kill their joints (and I don’t think people care too much about those electric bikes) but the ones that you don’t have to pedal at all are electric motorcycles and probably should be on a designated trail for motorized vehicles. It’s clearly a polarizing topic and with the surge of electric motor powered transportation there will definitely have to be some new laws and regs worked out.

  • @zachbaker5259
    @zachbaker5259 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with most commentors here, but I predict our friend here will be seen as a pioneer in the future. Eventually the parks will change the rules to let you ride the electric motorcycle. This sort of thing happened with bikes in skateparks. Bike riders just kept illegally using the parks regardless of the rules and enforcement. Eventually, the parks opened up to bike riders. The only way to stop it is with threat of violence from the locals. Skate-only parks usually have a militia of local skaters watching over them.

    These aren't MTB trails. They're roads that night lead to trail heads but they certainly aren't trails yet. Ride em. Why not. They're already rutted up so bad from wash out. How much damage are you gonna do on a little Surron bike? Like C'mon. Plus these guys aren't ripping anything up. They're pretty conservative actually. I ride dirt bikes and an e-mtb. Where i live i wouldn't be startled to see these bikes riding the roads. Nobody would. The MTB trails here are much tighter and smaller. Single track. Those i wouldn't ride with a Surron but these? They're roads. The Rangers are driving up there in 3/4 ton trucks so gimmie a break.
