I used to think strongman was an old man's game, but this new generation has completely broke the mold. ...which begs the question, is Mark Felix even human? To be as competitive as he was in his later years is completely astonishing.
Agreed, would be more fair for athletes with body types not suited for this event such as Novikov. Those long ass arms compared to his torso make it near impossible for him in this event
The mfer was doing something like 30 steps non stop turbo mode! Granted it was lower steps and probably lighter weight, but sure he would be amazing at this. Looking at the events, I think pudz in his best shape still would be a menace these days. Bus pull? Check. Duck walk into power stairs? Check. Load into yoke? Check. Stones? No problem. Car deadlift? A joy to watch. Only one I'm not sure is the Flintstone lift. But who knows?
Depends because if Aivars was in final he would have had fastest time tbh power stairs isn't an easy event to train because the equipment won't always be the same
I know it definitely favoured the taller guys, but I still think that the mix of events favoured a range of body types. Tom is a super long person with very very long arms, but he managed to do great on the deadlift and the flintstone barbell, and it's those versatile athletes who tend to win! And it's also easy to see Oleksii struggle on this event and say that this cost him the title, but other shorter athletes managed the power stairs (Mariusz was famously good at this event and is the same height as Oleksii, although he didn't have the same long arms). For me, Oleksii faltered mainly because he went *so hard* trying to get that last rep on the deadlift, and gave the bus pull *so much* effort, and I think that his body kind of gave out. He's also fighting a war and he had arguably been competing too much in the for his own good over the previous 12 months. So yes, he definitely was disadvantaged by this event, but that's not what caused his WSM2023 bid to fizzle out!
By all accounts, he shouldn't have even been able to get to this event. This was his 14th straight top 10 final, and he was 40 years old. He would still end up 4th here. That is simply unheard of. Not even Big Z did that. Brian Shaw was incredible until his last event just on that basis alone.
They should maybe clarify rules in the future. None of Tom's cleared the lip of the last step, but every other competitor made sure they did. They may not have had to do that, it's just unclear as a viewer.
Both competitors had judges right next to the stairs letting them know when it was ok to move on to the next weight. You can hear Magnus yelling "Good!" Sometimes 😁
Yet Licis who is roughly the same height came third at the event, if Aivars did this event he would have won it, because he has experience in this event, Oleksii admitted to making mistake in training in not finding out the height before hand
@@petershortland478 yeah oleksii admitted he didn't practise with 18' inch steps which proved to be too high for him, I just meant that for taller athletes these steps were more easy, though it was good to see power stairs make a comeback in wsm
Amazing event!
I think it favors the taller guys a little bit to much. Still Breaks my heart to this day that lalas lost his wsm title to the Power Stairs.
Amazing performance!
You did awesome man!
@@benjaminmarth924 Yet Maxime is "only" 6'-3"-ish and beat 6'-8" Tom Stoltman and 6'-8" Brian Shaw.
Good jub champ👍
Martins may not blow the competition off the map in any particular event, but he's always close to the top in every event. Phenomenal consistency.
That’s how you win 1-3 in every event. Not 1st in All, it’s too hard to have a body and the stamina to be #1 in all!
I used to think strongman was an old man's game, but this new generation has completely broke the mold. ...which begs the question, is Mark Felix even human? To be as competitive as he was in his later years is completely astonishing.
Tom Stoltman is an absolute monster not only in strength but in speed
Maxime banged this out like it was nothing, Beast!
How many kilos are those weights ?
225kg each
The duck walk aspect looked tough
The sportsmanship of Licis was admirable here.
For next time the implements need a tad shorter but the same weight. Always a good test of endurance in this event.
The size of the implements is part of the challenge
Agreed, would be more fair for athletes with body types not suited for this event such as Novikov. Those long ass arms compared to his torso make it near impossible for him in this event
high quality footage!
Love it! When will the full show be up?
Available now on the Channel 5 app.
Never. So sad.. after 2020 only these partial snippets :(
@@theworldsstrongestman What if u live in New Zealand lol
@ronald howsley use a VPN dude
@@raxq they are posting every event of the final and did for 2021 as well
The camera angles are ridiculous. How did we miss Tom's final lift, instead to watch Brian climb down the stairs??
Yeah not very professional
Wow this is out already?
I'm assuming no but were the contestants allowed to go one step higher and lift the weight from there?
Negative, ghostrider.
No
Could you please upload WSM'21? It's almost 2 years ago, for the non-UK fans channel 5 is not an option..
Use a VPN and get that app
They did upload it months ago...
This is the kind of event Mariusz Pudzianowski would have just crushed everyone in. Probably done it under 30 seconds.

Maxime is extremely impressive! what a powerhouse in a "smaller" frame

Tbh if Aivars were to do this event he would have smoked everyone because he has done stairs at this height
Tom was very sporting and is he best our favourite. uke was also very good. From Cameron age 4.
Weight?
500 lbs.
Don't they need to put the "weights" beyond the outer plank and not on it as some of them do??

Gotta love the trash talking disguised as encouragement from one competitor to the other.
with commentary better
Every guy on the left side did not finish with in time
That sucked seeing Novikov not finish
He just unfortunately didn't practice the event at the height, also gased out
Omg Brian was so damn slow 😂

@@fanfeck2844 what events are those? Honest question
Would there be a world strongest man division like lightweight, middle, and heavy? Cool to see different sizes of ppl being strongest man.
I think there is at other shows, but this is WSM, so there can only be one
Look up OSG (official strongman games) they have many weight and even age categories for men and women
Yes, our friends at OSG hand out our non-open class WSM titles.
There is, it's at OSG, who do a WSM for different divisions even females have their own divisions
I prefer no divisions tbh. Just any person of any size can compete.
