Hangman IS the Maverick of this movie. He’s the cocky, arrogant, young stud that Cruise was in the first movie. Rooster is Ice Man. The calculating, intelligent polar opposite of Hangman. Maverick is Viper. The wise mentor that knows what it takes to be a successful pilot, and understands that those qualities are a combination of both Rooster and Hangman.
I’m meeting him at a wedding in 2 months. I can’t wait….I’m calling him hangman not Glen Powell

It was part of the very little dialogue that Meg Ryan had. Almost nobody remembers that little tidbit. ✌🏼😎
@@randyhochstein8455Goose, too. At the very beginning when the incident is first brought up with "a history of high speed passes over numerous towers and one admirals daughter!" Goose leans over and asks/confirms in a whisper "Penny Benjamin?" Its such a throwaway gag that nobody ever seems to remember her name was brought up very clearly once (with Ryan's line about "Goose told me all about the time you went ballistic with Penny Benjamin") let alone twice.
@@inarar5334yeah, you basically have to watch these movies together to get that penny was the girl they mentioned in the first film. And even then you could easily forget about the admiral’s daughter. Since she was only mentioned twice relatively early in the first movie.
They didn't fly into the path of the SAMS (surface to air missiles) - they had no choice! You must have missed the briefing scene where the pilots were told that the SAMS would be waiting for them!

Tom is licensed for a great many things, including flying planes.

Although Navy regulations forbids civilians from piloting a navy aircraft, so those scenes were shot with the actors actually in flight, but in the rear seat, with naval aviators up front doing the flying.

I watched this in 4DX when it came out. Felt like I was in the back seat of those awesome machines! 😍
Also, you really need to check out the behind the scenes on this one. Most of the flying stunts were actually performed. The actors WERE in real flight for most of the scenes. It's very interesting how they made the movie. Fun fact, Tom wanted to pilot an F-18 himself for a stunt, but they didn't let him. The dude knows how to fly fighter jets! 😂
The plane he flies in the end is actually his own plane.
She's feeling bad because she knows what he's flashing back to when Rooster is playing the piano. It's another clue they have a lot of history and that she knows him really well.
Throwing him out is just typical aviator hijinks. :)

@@AdamfromFWCI when mav and goose are being chewed out in the first movie by the skipper of the enterprise he was being reprimanded for so many unauthorized flybys over so many towers and one admirals daughter,goose whispers penny benjamin,that's her.

Tom Cruise was really awesome in this and played the 60+ yr old in a wonderful way! Hangman came out of nowhere to save the day. And I appreciated the relationship with Penny as it shows you are never too old to have some fun! I think I watched TG probably a dozen times at least and my son started watchin it when he was 2 (I think he loved the music and the planes!) so I was kind of surprised how good this sequel was! Enjoyed that a lot!
When Val Kilmer is talking, they use his son voice because he couldn't talk.
Val Kilmer didn't speak at all, at that time, his voice is a combination of his son's voice and an A.I. computer. Rooster: "You told me not to think." Is the best line of dialogue in this movie (and this movie had fantastic dialogue all across it.) This movie gets everyone, all right...
It is basic Iran, if you go only on the fact that we sold F-14 Tomcats to them before the Islamic revolution.
wanna see more Glen Powell? Watch EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! from director Richard Linklater. He's fantastic in it!

I just feel like he may not really understand what the movie is about.. There's too much commentary, and can barely hear the movie itself. I like the videos but the talking needs to calm down.
It was a reference to his reaction to the original Top Gun movie. He thought Maverick‘s intense staring in some scenes was unnerving and that he was giving off serial killer vibes. 😂
“It’s what my dad would’ve done” got me 😂😂 shed a singular manly tear for that one
The love intrest is Penny Benjamin, she’s mentioned a few times in Top Gun , she’s the one maverick did the illegal flyover of her house. They had a relationship prior to maverick being deployed in Top Gun 1.
Probably the best sequel ever! ✌️ It confirms the long friendship that I imagined between Iceman and Mav after the first film, but the fact they were able to include Val in this movie made me cry. Again, I recommend watching Val Kilmer’s biography titled Val. I love the conflict and resolve of the relationship between Mav and Rooster; I mean they couldn’t have cast a better actor to play Goose’s son. The callbacks to the first film are so touching, even Penny was mentioned by Meg Ryan when teasing Mav about the Admiral’s daughter. Love this movie! The soundtrack is amazing and the final scenes had me crying again. 😭💕 Perfect wrap up for this story. I’m so glad they waited 30 years to make this movie.

You missed half the movie, judging by your comments and questions.
I think you might have been talking when they mentioned the Sam's a couple of times and missed it. Penny is mentioned in the first movie a couple of times. They say Val Kilmer is cancer free now, but it did do some damage. He cannot speak, his son did the speaking for him.
Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny(Jennifer Connely) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.And Hangman taps 86 into the jukebox, the year of the first Top Gun movie

Yes they knew the SAMs were there and you see the long shot of all 4 planes working as the team they have become to help one another, that’s the point of the great shot where they are inundated with missiles but work together

Tom can fly and he did in his own plane at the end but also can do helicopters and fighters. But the safety guy could not be fired for that.

This movie actually wasn’t technically the highest grossing movies last year it was avatar 2
Also Top gun maverick was my favourite movie last year saw it twice wish I saw it more
actually Maverick was the top grossing movie IN 2022, but Avatar 2 is the top grossing movie OF 2022, there's a difference. Avatar 2 was released very late in December 2022 so it made little money last year, about 99% of its box office earnings were made this year in 2023. While Maverick was released in May 2022 so most of its box office earnings were made within 2022, so technically Maverick was the top grossing movie IN 2022. While Avatar 2 is currently the top grossing movie IN 2023.
