Amazing progress. My dad told me of his plowing mules in his youth. He said that when the mules were plowing towards the barn they would speed up. Once he turned them in the opposite direct away from the barn, they would slow down. He said he always felt sorry for them. He spoke of them often. I myself love watching your gopro footage from the riding position. It's like I'm there with you. As always, thanks for sharing this and God bless you and yours.

Good evening Mr Zach! This is Jimmy. I'm trying to get caught up on your videos! We attended a Church Gathering for about 2 weeks and I have gotten behind on your videos. Your Mule Team is AWESOME! You are a very good and patient man my friend! We really liked this video so much! Have a blessed day and God bless you and your family always! Thank you, my friend, truly! That means a whole lot to me, especially being a Christian man. I try my best to be a good example… Those times I feel like I fall mighty short. I just hope whenever I leave this whole world that people can say I am a good man. To me that is all that really matters. Howdy Zach from Southern Mississippi, my name is Lamar Carson. I'm new to your channel. I'm really enjoying watching your videos. You're videos are really enjoyable and educational. The thing I like most about your videos is the Bible scriptures you post on them. Thank you for that. I can't wait to go back and watch earlier videos plus I want to see more new videos. I don't have much experience with mules or horses, but I do have a little bit. I grew up on a dairy farm, but my nextdoor neighbors farmed with mules when I was a youngster. My daddy grew up plowing cotton with mules as a boy, and he use to borrow my uncle's mule to plow our garden when I was a kid. In the late 1990s my neighbor bought 3 Belgian draft horses, 1 stud and 2 mares. About all he did with them was plow his garden and pull a wagon in parades. I had a male donkey that I ran with my cows as protection, and he asked me if he could borrow my Jack to breed his Belgian mares, which I loaned it to him and he raised 2 pairs of some of the prettiest red mules I had ever seen. And I helped him break both pairs. Then he took one pair to Missouri and sold them, but I don't know where he sold the second pair. But he ended up with one black mule on his 3rd attempt at breeding his mares. He was unexpected, it seems my Jack bred his Mustang mare that he adopted. That was the craziest mule I have ever seen. We put him in his 32 foot stock trailer to wean him off of the mare. That mule kicked dents in the top of that stock trailer, which we cut the top out of it and added 2 feet to the height so he could load his Belgian horses and his covered wagon. That mule Colt tried to kick the top out of that trailer. I'm getting long winded. Just wanted to introduce myself, I don't get to like your videos, because I watch them on my TV and I don't know how to like them on the TV. I'm posting this on my phone. God bless you and your family. We'll be praying for you and yours my friend. Keep the videos coming.

Take care and do come again, please.

5% chance I’ll ever anything but a dog. That being said I absolutely love this series. Watching the girls learn has been fascinating. And your love for it keeps it very interesting. ❤ trav Ps why does it look like the rear right horse is doing more work?
Well, I appreciate that my friend! And thank you for taking time to watch and comment! I’m glad you enjoy it even though you’ll probably never own any mules or horses. At times, especially in the first few times of hitching..the animals have to learn to get together. It takes time. They will all learn to get into sync as time goes on. Hence one reason we’re practicing dragging tires instead of in the woods on a big load. They need time to learn. I can manage them pretty well, but in the end..they have to learn to get together. Anyway, hope I answered your question. And thanks for asking. Take care my friend and do come again, please
Ty sir! And yes, far more than I deserve. Thanks for watching my friend. I surely appreciate your dedication to my channel. Take care and do come again, please

Now I need to get my act in gear and get all 4 of my horses going again. Haven't had them in a 4up since sleigh season ended and I lost my best lead mare. I'm working in heavy timber for the next 5 years or so, big job, and could use the extra hp. Biggest issue is tight getting into spots to hook onto the log. Yes the wheelers always want to cut the corners, can get you in a snag, hook a wheel on a tree on a corner. I had an oldtimer come and give me a hand the first time I hooked all 4up, went well, and he commented that he could tell I worked my teams regularly as they were all pulling like they meant it. Thanks for the video.
Blessings to you all today as each day and thank you for blessing us with your knowledge again 🙏🏻 a question 🙋🏼♀️ I’m noticing in this 4 hitch that May’s harness keeps riding high off her backend, what causes this 👋🏼☕️
Hello again! Thank you for the kind words my friend. So, her britchen will raise a little because of the high line of draft off the log cart. They’re hooked sorta high, which when they step forward, the trace chains will lift their britchen a little. Thanks for the question my friend and thank you for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please
Not only have horses and mules been worked this way for centuries, they were also worked single file. Before the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, the streets going down to the harbor were so narrow horses could only go single file in places. So they would come in with three teams of horses on a jerk line hitch pulling a Conestoga wagon loaded with hogsheads of flour, or what have you, but then they'd have to break them up and do six horses single file on a jerk line to get down to the harbor. After the fire, they widened all the streets leading down to the harbor so that wasn't necessary anymore. Of course, that was the tail end of horses and mules moving freight anyway. I now see what went wrong the only time I ever drove four: I should have had them on a drag and not on a wagon. A little weight behind them would have made all the difference. This is precisely why my team used to do well at shows. They started together, stopped together, backed together, and turned together. They had done field work, so it was just natural to them. The show horses had always pulled light carriages, usually on a splinter bar. They could get away with slacking and letting the other horse take the whole load. They had never had to turn precisely to line a harrow up on the last row. Basically, a blue collar working animals learns dressage organically, because they need it to do their jobs. They aren't froufrou about it, they just get the job done. They learn to sidepass, yield their hindquarter and yield their forequarter just to turn an implement and line it up again. They learn to lengthen stride or shorten stride just like a drill team, even though the line they are swinging is only two horses wide, instead of long lines where the inside horse marks time while the outside horse is cantering. Its all the same skills. You are literally driving by the seat of your pants. You can tell what the team is doing by what the seat is doing. I hope these aren't all the babies you break. You are so gifted at it, I'd love to see you break a team every year. The world would be better for having good teams like this in it. I used to never decide how far I was going to work my team until I left our half mile driveway. If they were quiet and behaving, sometimes I'd turn around and go right back in and take them out of the harness. If they were full of themselves and acting up, we might go five miles. They learned to walk flat footed and save their energy in case I decided to go further. I like your yard sign. I've got one just like it.
I am so thankful for you taking the time to write such a detailed and thoughtful comment, I truly appreciate it! Thanks for your kind words and taking time to watch and comment. I surely appreciate your dedication to my channel. Idk how many I will break in the future. I use to break several teams a year. But I just got tired of dealing with the owners. I don’t plan to get any more mules right away. So, idk really. But anyway, thanks again. Take care and do come again, please
Awesome video, I’m curious how you come up with 500ft logs? Multiple chained together? I’ve been around tree work my whole life, I’ve never seen a 500ft tall tree, I was just curious. You’ve done amazing work with those mules
500 foot logs refer to “board footage.” For example..a 20” log that’s 12 foot long would equal 192 board ft. Two of those logs hooked to the cart would be a 400 foot drag. Anyway, thanks for the question and I hope I answered it for you. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please.
2 questions. The first is from my wife. She'd like to know if the greenhouse is Marcy's? I think Lori is jealous of it. Second, when your driving with the 4 lines do you have a special way you hold them in your hand? I mean so you can control May and June with more pressure? I'm sure Kate and Alice are just fingertip control. I love the scripture from Timothy. Keep planting those seeds brother.
Hello my friend! So..1. The greenhouse is Marcy’s yes. I plan to get her to give us a tour of it soon. She loves growing flowers and veggies. She has a true green thumb. 2. So I hold my lines with my front team over the top of my index finder and the second set between my index and middle finger. It’s hard to describe. Maybe I can show it sometime, and it’ll make more sense on how to set a team in or out. Anyway, thanks for the questions and thanks a bunch to you and Ms Lori for watching! Take care my friend and do come again, please.

Yes ma’am, little at a time. Well, I don’t really do treats per se..but I do rub them and tell them “good job.” I’ll brush them down good. Give them turnout time etc etc. Every now and then I may split a honey bun up between them and let em have. I try to be good to them. Thank you for asking! And again, for taking time to watch and comment.

5% chance I’ll ever anything but a dog. That being said I absolutely love this series. Watching the girls learn has been fascinating. And your love for it keeps it very interesting. ❤ trav
Ps why does it look like the rear right horse is doing more work?
Well, I appreciate that my friend! And thank you for taking time to watch and comment! I’m glad you enjoy it even though you’ll probably never own any mules or horses. At times, especially in the first few times of hitching..the animals have to learn to get together. It takes time. They will all learn to get into sync as time goes on. Hence one reason we’re practicing dragging tires instead of in the woods on a big load. They need time to learn. I can manage them pretty well, but in the end..they have to learn to get together. Anyway, hope I answered your question. And thanks for asking. Take care my friend and do come again, please
Yes sir! Makes perfect sense.

Cool 😎 I wish you well my friend and thanks for taking time to watch and comment. I surely appreciate it. Take care and do come again, please
It is a beautiful thang!😁❤

Do mules sleep standing? or do they bed down ? Thanks for the excellent content God bless

Zach the chains that are on the hitches , what weight of chain & level of strength do you prefer ! Thank you ?
I prefer 1/4” grade 120 chain the best…
is there a 4up evener you could hook to on the cart??
You mean 4 abreast? Or 4 wide?
are they muscling up?
Yes, sir… They are starting to a little. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment as always. Take care and do come again, please
A beautiful thang !
What's your bottom dollar today ? LoL
Haha! Not today anyway… Thank you, my friend for the kind words. And thank you for always taking time to watch comment. Take care and do come again, please
Hi Zach
Things are really coming together! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
So what kind of treats will you give them?
Yes ma’am, little at a time. Well, I don’t really do treats per se..but I do rub them and tell them “good job.” I’ll brush them down good. Give them turnout time etc etc. Every now and then I may split a honey bun up between them and let em have. I try to be good to them. Thank you for asking! And again, for taking time to watch and comment.
@@zachodommulelogging You’ll have to make a video while giving them a little goodie👍🏼👍🏼🫶🏼
