    The Skyforge is one of the most fascinating mysteries to ponder on in Skyrim, and The Elder Scrolls. If the Snow Elves were afraid of it enough to steer clear of its gaze, then WHO built it? Could it be a creation of the Old Ehlnofey? Or the greater Et’Ada, when Magnus still walked the plane of Mundus? Or was it created after Magnus escaped back to Aetherius with the majority of Original Spirits(Et’Ada) and tore through the material plane creating the sun & stars? Could it have been created by the same ones who built the Adamantine Tower? It’s amazing how depthless the world of the Elder Scrolls is the more you think about it!

    In fairness on the Ancient Nordic weapons and armor, I imagine that it was probably the armor of the regular foot soldier, or at least the ones who could afford it. After all, what are all the Draugr all wearing and using? Ancient Nordic stuff. As such, I imagine that it isn't very good, because that's all that either they could afford, or that is all that could be provided to them.
    As you can see on higher level (and probably more important people in life) Draugr, they start wielding Ebony weaponry at higher levels in Skyrim, ergo, it does make sense that the Ancient Nordic stuff isn't that great, because that's the only thing they could afford to really get.

    So in other words, just like all the other cool things Nords used to have, the reason why this armor was so rad was because they used ancient and unique magics that they forgot and abandoned over time, and aren't too good at recreating because Modern Nords are have denser skulls than Stahlrim. See, this is what happens when you abandon Jhunal as a deity!

    • @reecegreyshock9646
      @reecegreyshock9646 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m truth, it’s just Bethesda trying force it’s audience to use white out by providing shallow level lore. They could have said that Nords had a fine understanding of steel, and new that combining quicksilver, iron, and silver makes an alloy that is practically indestructible against blunt objects or arrows. Due to the diversification of power under the Imperial Empire, people had less access to such metals and knowledge so naturally the ability to make such incredible metals are only known to isolated Nord communities like the Skaal. Simple shit like that would have provided all the information necessary to piece together the story as a whole🧐🧠!!

  • @hideshisface1886

    As for Ancient Nord armour - note that stuff visible on Draugr differs slightly from what we can craft - there are pieces of mail still visible below plates and actual knee-joints on the boots - those are all absent from craftable versions.
    So basically - what is Available from Skyforge is either incomplete, or it is Bethesda's massive oversight, which can't be really excluded as a possibility.
    Speaking of mail - it is worth noting that chainmails seem to be strangely absent in Skyrim - the closest thing to a proper chainmail is found underneath the plates of ebony armour and ebony mail, and imperial studded armour (which ironically is not studded but reinforced with chainmail...) - it seem like Bethesda's art direction department developed an allergy to one of the most practical types of armour that would, by the way, work very well with a nordic theme...
    Also - I would not pay TOO MUCH attention to effectiveness of armour and weapons in Morrowind's expansions - both Tribunal and Bloodmoon suffer from something I call "expansiontitis" - a difficulty creep, even if it makes no narrative sense at times - take a look at the Riekling Blade for that matter - it is better than ebony broadsword, which is absolutely ridiculous.
    As for materials - it unlikely that Skyrim's quicksilver is actually mercury, in the similar fashion to ebony not being wood.
    Another thing - note that Nordic Carved Armour bears rather striking resemblance to the armour of Ysgramor on his statue. On top of that, this armour also appears to have pieces of decorative ringmail on it.

      Yes, Dwarven metal is quite peculiar.... the only way to obtain dwarven metal ingots themselves it to find them already melted down, or to melt down things made of dwarven metal. It makes you wonder what it's made of that's so rare that there isn't a single vein of the metal in Skyrim.

    • @wu1ming9shi
      @wu1ming9shi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@danieltaylor4912 Yeah, and the fact that it stays the same metal after melting it too. Usually when you melt metals like bronze they will either devolve back to their earlier metals or they'll change into something else entirely. Often of lesser quality. Like what happense when you smelt good quality iron and keep resmelting it over and over. Eventualy it will become very brittle.

    • @danieltaylor4912
      @danieltaylor4912 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wu1ming9shi Hm... maybe it isn't the same metal after being melted down. I don't know about you, but when I look at dwarven armor, I think it looks dull... old and tarnished. Even when you smith new Dwarven armor from ingots, it still looks degraded.... maybe it's the limitation of the game itself, but I like to think that you just don't have the know-how to properly make dwarven armor, so the metal will never be pristine like it used to be. Perhaps it's some kind of alloy that the people of Skyrim never learned how to create - as we well know, the only ingots in Skyrim that require multiple different kinds of ore is Steel, and from that I would assume that that could mean that smithing in Skyrim is still a somewhat crude art, compared to what we know about working metal today.

    Real life woad is a very interesting thing. It's derived from a type of cabbage, firstly, and as a dye it has to be boiled, which changes it from a bluish liquid to a yellowish vapour, which will stain very bright yellow to any homespun and/or linen fabrics put above it that were common in the bronze to iron age. Some theories have stated that the tattoos of the ancient Celts and Picts were derived from Woad, but trials done with woad as a tattoo dye have shown that it works as an astringent. instead of simply working as a tattoo dye, it burns significantly and leaves behind a raised, blue scar. Thus, if indeed tattoos of the ancient celtic peoples of the british isles were done with woad as some historians think, they would have been incredibly painful tattoos that would have left a very stark and noticable scarification, which by the very nature of scarring would have resulted in the skin where the tattoos/scars were located being thicker and tougher and harder to cut. It would appear to the people of the time that their tattooed flesh had become naturally armored, and the connection of the tattooing and magic would be made.
    However, it should be known that the Romans of the time described the tattoos as appearing to be made of "Vitrum" which is a primitive form of blue-green glass. While the scarring left by woad tattooing does appear slightly shiny, it is not quite to the level of vitrum in its' shininess. Perhaps in times of war the tattoos were painted over with a paint derived from woad and vitrum? This also gives some historical precedence to the idea of glass armor.

    I feel like I should point out that in the actual game files, Ancient Nord armor is recorded with the tag "ArmorMaterialDaedric"
    However, this doesn't necessarily mean the stuff has any connection to Oblivion, as that particular function just dictates how much the armor pieces can be upgraded (i.e. controlling all other variables, armor tagged as iron can't be upgraded as much as armor tagged as ebony)

      Seeing as how the ancient nords were better smiths than the ones in the 4th era, its not unreasonable to assume that some nordic armor may have rivalved daedric, after being smithed by a legendary Smith in the skyforge with ancient nordic tools, then enchanted by ancient nord mages. The nords of the 4th era are too scared of magic to make any spectacular armor.

I just bought a 2160p resolution television, and my old Xbox 360 Skyrim Legendary Edition is showing me crater impacts on both moon surfaces and better colors and more details on most surfaces. I love seeing the dust and gas formations in the plane of the disc of the spiral galaxy in which Nirn resides, and that a game developer even bothered with adding it to their game to begin with. Beautiful mods in your videos.

    I’m currently doing a role play of a Nordic Mercenary turned Knight who was in service to the king of Daggerfall as a member of his royal guard. While out on a hunting trip with the son of the king, the royal hunting party was attacked by werewolves and while our hero was able to defeat the werewolves, he was not able to save the king’s son. Worse still, our hero was scratched on the face and became a werewolf himself, and leaving a nasty scar.
    The king was enraged at our hero’s failure to protect his son, but by law the hero could not be punished. But he could be exiled for being a werewolf. So our hero became a drifter, returning to his mercenary ways, roaming High Rock and Hammerfell, selling his sword to the highest bidder.
    Eventually he ends up in The Bannered Mare in Skyrim as he was originally from Whiterun and he was attending the funeral of his older brother who died in the Civil War fighting for the Empire. While there he hears of a strange attack on Helgen, and sets out to investigate…
    Main skills are one handed, two handed, block, marksman, heavy armor, speech craft, restoration, and enchanting. Restoration because he learned some tricks from a Priestess of Mara to suppress his lycanthropy through restoration magic. Enchanting was something he learned a little bit in High Rock as he would use enchanting to supplement his skill as a knight-warrior and later to kill werewolves and other monsters (he greatly resents being a werewolf and is trying to find a way to cure himself) he is a devout follower of Akatosh, as he feels some strange, yet natural connection this deity…(he’s Dragonborn, so duh) his preferred is two handed sword and bow for lightly armored targets and monsters, and a mace and shield combination when fighting heavily armored opponents. Uses the steel plate armor as it is a knightly armor with a Nordic flavor much like our hero.
    He strives for moral righteousness but often falls short because a.) he is only mortal and all mortals are sinners in some way and b.) he is part werewolf and that inner beast can cause him to take some dubious action now and again. Not full blown psycho murderer, but some bullying, some screwing someone over, that kind of stuff. But in the end he tries to be good.

    • @anonymoussmartass5347
      @anonymoussmartass5347 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cvbpo yep I’ve used those other types too. I just don’t usually mix armor/weapon types, except in certain specific cases with certain weapons or certain pieces of each armor types. For example, I don’t like the way the main piece of Ancient Nord armor looks, so with characters with whom I use Ancient Nord armor, I just toss the main piece. It has no leg protection, so I use Banded Iron Armor instead for the main piece. Another example...I like Ebony Armor and Ebony Weapons....some of them, that is. I like the war axe, mace, battle axe, bow, and war hammer, but I hate the sword, great sword, and dagger, so I’ve never used those pieces, and have no intention of doing so. Dragonbone, Nordic, Stahlrim, Ancient Nord (with Banded Iron main piece) and Blades Armor are my top 5 heavy armor sets. However, the Blades set doesn’t have a full set of weapons to pick from, and I personally prefer to use 1 handed weapons with light armor and 2 handed weapons with heavy armor sets, so I use the Ebony Blade (not to be confused with the Ebony Sword or Ebony Great Sword) with Blades Armor. I hate the way the Stahlrim Battle Axe, War Axe, or Sword (1 handed) look, so I don’t use those. I also particularly like the Falmer Heavy Armor, but for weapons, it only has a 1 handed sword, a 1 handed axe, and a bow, and I think the sword and axe are both ugly, so I used the Ebony Battle Axe with the Falmer Heavy Armor set. I only use the Falmer Heavy Armor when I make evil (or less than honorable) characters anyway, because I think it looks evil. The same with Daedric Armor, except there’s a full set of weapons.

    I just had an idea:
    Nordic weapons are so sturdy because of quicksilver, which solidifies at around -40°C (as you said). Now while Skyrim is cold (as you said) it might not be THAT cold all the time, so there has to be liquid quicksilver at least during summer, making it unfit to use in weapons.
    BUT: the weapons were mostly forged in eras where magic was all around, so maybe the Nords found a way to instill (ice) magic permamently to keep the quicksilver solid.

    Isn't the lore rule that all armor and weapons are equally strong but have different stats in game because of game mechanic reasons? Aka Dwemer is just as strong as Steel and Daedric? Those swirls on nordic puzzle doors and pick axes might be an integrated inlayed Ebony, and to me and would make sense in the spiritual aspect plus the sheer sturdiness of such things. Also the Draugr use Ebony ethier of their own making, or are taken from those foolish enough to enter their Barrows.

    It's also worth noting that, judging by the unused armour keyword "DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight", Bethesda originally intended to have a light armour in the Nordic style, but that obviously never happened. Probably that's why Frea was more proficient in the light armour skill, as I think she was meant to wear this but had to wear the heavy Nordic Carved one instead. I wonder what they had planned for the light variant.

    Speaking of the ancient Nordic pickaxe it is also inferred in the game that there is also a skill to how it is used and the pickaxe can be “ruined” if not used correctly. I would gather there is a combination of material shape and user skill to how the item harvests sthalrim.

  • @swampcooler8332
    @swampcooler8332 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know, wrong video, however i just had a thought. What if Stalhrim is some amalgamation of ice and, bare with me, souls or soul gems. Maybe that is the reason it is found on ancient nord tombs, perhaps that was even part of the forging process. It has a similar glow you see on soul gems, and its not that far out of the realm of possibility as deadric armor and weapons are made from the deadra. Maybe only the mages of the day could be infused into the ice, and only a tool closely associated with the time could mine it such as an ancient nordic pickaxe could crack its surface. It could be a way for somebody to serve their leader after death or protect the tomb without becoming a drauger. (Forgive me if i missed something that may or may not support this, as i am not the closest to the lore of the elder scrolls)

    quick silver or mercury could stay in a liquid form while in Skyrim (if other lore allows it) and still used in the forging process, when cooling a blade it can be dunked in different types of oils and water depending on the desired effect. so why not mercury ? not only would it be cooling the blade, but infusing with the metal giving a weapon the name of quick silver and allowing it too do more damage to wearwolfs
