    I get asked almost every hour what I think about the Fuji X-Pro3 so far. So I thought I would give you my first impressions after roughly a week of use. I have shot +600 photos, both at work and in spare time. But it is still a bit early to say for certain wether I will keep it or flip it. The X-pro line is known for keeping it value quite well so I don’t think I would loose that much money.

    I finally managed to get Classic Neg from the X-Pro3 working with raw in Lightroom and no artifacts.
    There was a new version of Lightroom released a few days ago and to my surprise it had installed itself on my computer. Strange since I always turn off automatic updates on my OS, phone, all softwares etc. I never ever update anything unless there is a specific reason. But for some reason my Lightroom had done it on its own and thats probably what did it :)
    Anyway, good for Fuji to get on the ball so quickly.
    So now my problem is instead to find out WTF is up with Creative Cloud who thinks it can do what ever it feels like..
    (EDIT: I have also found an article where Phase One confirms that it's the same case for Capture One. Fujifilm provided the needed documentation.)

      So exacly what I wanted to write. It's Lightroom that is handicapped not the camera. It's the software job to use all the camera abilities. Good it works now.

      @@TheHector244 No it was the camera that was the issue but Fuji finally got around to fixing the problem. Thankfully. Still not impressed by how fuji could make such a huge misstake.

    Since I shoot mostly from the hip, it is the ideal camera for me for street. I have also determined that I can scroll through presets on the back panel just by tapping the Q and then using the back wheel. Same with the button above. I just wish it was backlit a little. I am only using the 35 1.4 lens at this time and like the fact that it forces me to frame and think about what I'm shooting. I love the raw in camera conversion too. Mostly I love the look at feel of it. All black no markings, minimal buttons etc. It's the closest thing to a Leica 240 or M without the expense. I'm also trying to shoot in 1:1 and also not crop after again trying to bring mindfulness into what I'm shooting.
    Many think that it is only the final image that counts but I disagree and think that the way you arrive at something is just as important. Another channel recently went off about someone who takes 30 min to make a cup of coffee and they thought that it was a big waste of time. Their opinion is that only the final thing counts not how you get there.
    I was thinking of that Mick Jagger and the Tiger double exposure by Albert Watson. Today you could easily do this in about 15 min in Photoshop. But Albert Watson is an amazing photographer who knew his craft and tools and is a real artist. In my opinion, how you do something, the pathway there is as, if not more important as the final product.

    Thanks for the first impressions and especially for pointing out that titanium itself is rather soft. As a watch and bicycle guy I felt puzzled by all the reviewers presenting titanium as an extra tough material. I guess Fuji addressed it with the Dura coating - just as some watch manufacturers do...
    The always on viewfinder really turns me off, on my X-Pro1/ X-Pro2 I use the 'always off until needed' setting. Maybe it will be updated via firmware update.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is some start to make scratch tests on Dura expecting it to be even more scratch resistant. When its more an attempt to make titanium on par with magnesium or in watches, steel :)

    I think the x-pro3 is a brilliant camera. But I also have an x-e3 and x-t2 that I love. I think what I truly love about Fuji is the lens line, the APS-C sensor size, and the physical dials. I don't think the x-pro3 adds enough onto what I have. What excites me about it is computational -- I can wait for a used x-e5 to get the better focus in lowlight, HDR and multiple exposure functions, tone/curve editing, and what will probably be an equivalent or better EVF by that time for 1/2-1/4 of the price.

    Great comments Mattias. I've not used Classic Neg yet. Been shooting Raw plus Pro Neg Std and not had any issues in LR since the last update which added support for the X-Pro3. Main complaint I have which is a small but irritating one, is that there isn't a warning light to tell you that the camera is still switched on. The rear sub-screen changes when off but that's not instantly visible. A small led light would have been handy. As I said only a small complaint from me. Other than that I love the camera. I tried a pre-production model for several hours about a month before release and that sold me on the camera. I look forward to your review because they are always well thought through.

    May I ask your view on the haptic feedback you get from the shutter button? In my camera, when I half press the shutter button I need to put that extra effort to press it down in order to focus and then the remaining distance till I actually take the photo is minimal with no "click" feeling like in other cameras. Like after the button reaches the end of the "focus" point the remaining distance to actually take the picture is very small. How is it in your case?

It's the most obvious feature (and EXTREMELY practical)! Seems like that could be a firmware fix, right? I would LOVE that for my X-T2's. Hopefully it will be fixed for the RAW shooters.

    • @vikmanphotography7984
      @vikmanphotography7984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried the express version of CaptureOne but the raw processing is far nicer than adobe's. CaptureOne is also the obvious choice if you ever tether (essential for commercial photography). CaptureOne also has more tools for editing than Lightroom as it's made to also sort of replace Photoshop- especially for color manipulation.
      Lightroom on the other hand has better organizational tools, IMO and if you use presets (I'll judge you) then Lightroom has a lot more readily available. Lightroom, with its fewer tools is also a lot easier to navigate and learn if you're starting fresh.
      I use all three of these programs personally as they all have strengths. For studio/commercial work- CaptureOne is miles ahead. For weddings, events, and organizing- Lightroom. Photoshop- I use any time Lightroom/CaptureOne is missing a feature I need or using the feature is too convoluted (most any time I want to do more than basic editing).

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter

      @@gearreallydoesntmatter it did take Adobe a while to support X-trans sensor cameras but that's solved now. I still think that CaptureOne renders Fuji RAW files better though. Cleaner images at high ISO, richer colors, a more linear response from shadow to highlight. You shouldn't see any difference between JPEGs though.
      Both valuable tools. Both have their place.

The reason I ask is that if I use Irdient X-transformer, and change the camera model to fake out Lightroom to give up the classic negative profile with older cameras, I am not seeing the artifacts. Yeah, the drive button is rather pivotal for me. I like having right hand operation for changing that setting while in the middle of shooting an event. The X-Pro2 is holding it's own for me with AF and when I need more I switch to the X-T3. The day that the X-Pro3 was announced was the day that I received my "new" Fuji camera - a near mint condition X-E1. Figured it would be a camera that will force me to slow down and it was considerably less costly than the X-Pro3. :p

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the Xpro3 is definitely overkill for slow shooting. It's very quick and it would be wasted for going slow. That's why I have a XE2s for mindfulness and the Xpro3 for run-n-gun :)

    the biggest question I've had since they announced it is does the X-Pro 3 give you a lot more than the X-Pro 2 which it apparently replaces or does it only give you a little more, if the latter is the case then I would think it's not really worth paying the extra money over an X-Pro 2.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Imo. The differences are physical. Either you want the new design or you dont. The image quality isn't going to be much to compare.

    Think the problem is LR's version of the fuji film simulations are not quite the same as the camera's I pretty much shoot RAW+JPG with the X-T3 the differences are minor, but I do notice them and WTH I treat my X-T3 like a film camera anyway with RAW as a backup film.
    But thats just me using a Digital camera like a film camera and my E-M1 MK1 as my workhorse camera lol.
