This might be my new favourite episode of your channel, Steve. It was opportunities like these that gave me my start in aviation, and it is fantastic to see you be an ambassador for the community.
I love watching people fly that have little or no flight experience. They have the biggest smiles. I had a young woman that worked for me. She had a 7 yr. old son. The son really wanted to fly but she was totally afraid and would not attempt it. The next day we drove the hour to the field, got the plane out, the son climbed in, the engine started and he began to scream that he wanted out. He did not want to fly. I then asked her if she wanted to try it and immediately could see the dilemma on her face. She was scarred to death but she was also embarrassed that we had come all this way for nothing. I interjected that she did not have to. She opted to fly. During take off, she hung on for dear life and I was expecting that she also would start frantically wanting to be back on the ground. That quickly changed. A big smile crossed her face with a, "This is nothing like I had expected. I love flying." After landing and in the process of leaving, the son came up to me and with a tone of, If my mom did it, I can do it, said, "Can I go up?" Thirty minutes later, he became the newest Young Eagle and I took everybody to lunch, where they both could not stop talking about what they just had experienced.
I had this experience from the other side a couple of weeks ago. Finally got up in a Cherokee after a lifetime of interest in aviation and I was really nervous beforehand. I was probably better prepared than most, since I've already finished ground school, but that still isn't a substitute for stick time, and I hadn't even been in a GA plane since I was a little kid. It was amazing how quickly the trepidation disappeared once we got off the ground, it was very quickly replaced by a strong desire to just try and fly the airplane as well as I could and not mess up. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's crazy how little drama there really was to it for me and the time just flew by until I was sad to be getting on the ground again.
Sarah's flight brought a tear to my eye. Her love for flight is so pure. She gets it, this is why we fly. The joy of being above the clouds. The feel in the seat of your pants as you move through the air. What a wonderful moment! ❤️
I was so happy to see Sarah and Joanna go flying. I remember the time before I became a pilot and the grins on their faces were the same as mine. The love of flight is a beautiful thing. I’m so impressed with the support shown by all people in this video, especially Sarah’s parents. So awesome.
Steve, once again you inject FUN into the aviation world. Fantastic group of aviators you hang out with, giving rides to people interested in seeing the world from another dimension. The Vans light box was cool too.
I enjoyed every second of this video. Especially loved watching the 12-year-old grinning from ear to ear. The future of aviation right there....I guess that's the point of the whole thing!

I’m an ex UK 🇬🇧 JTAC (Joint Terminal Air Controller) for the army, basically I talked in various weapons platforms onto there targets in various places I served. I’ve always been extremely interested in aviation & I didn’t do well at school but just because this happened it didn’t end my dream of being a pilot. Dreams are NEVER over, only when you decide or only sometimes delayed. In fact I believe that if my life path had been any different I wouldn’t be where I am now. I requested a transfer to become an Army Air Corps helicopter pilot after 12 years service & having my left foot blown off, therefore couldn’t carry on being a Para & jumping out of planes into dangerous situations & having to walk up mountains carrying heavy stuff including radios, batteries & my own stuff. I passed my interview to train to be an Army Air Corps Pilot (AAC) or Teeny Weeny Airways (TWA) as us soldiers used to call them & was sent back to England 🏴 (i was based in Germany at the time) I started my flight training after many medical exams, I felt as if they WANTED me to not be medically fit enough, but impasses all their tests & I got a training slot. This strangely began with a fixed wing Chipmunk, an ex WW2 era tail dragger, these ones didn’t even have the luxury of a bubble canopy that most Chipmunks have these days, we had the original panelled canopies which in an emergency you could punch out the side window or just retract the canopy off the rails. I remember on start up, the entire instrument panel would vibrate so bad you couldn’t make anything out.The parachutes did not give you confidence either as they formed part of your seat, you had to sit in a metal bucket with you’re parachute as your seat cushion. It’s impossible to stand up straight wearing it so it wasn’t a good Tom Cruise look, so no opportunity to send cool pictures home. I learned to love the Chipmunk though, after 30 hours when we proved we had a basic understanding of flight I was sad to see it go, we progressed onto Gazelles for basic rotary training, the Gazelle is the Mazda MX5 of the helicopter world, after we had completed this stage successfully we then learned more about tactical flying, utilising the airframe/terrain plus even the weather to your advantage to successfully accomplish your mission all mixed in IMC etc, it was VERY VERY intense but 9 of the original 14 of us passed. Which is actually an extraordinarily high pass rate for a course, they have had in the past just 1 or 2 pass. Some people though are invited to retry if they have shown promise. I then moved onto the wonderful/beautiful & fastest flying helicopter in the world 🌍, the amazing Westland Lynx (latest version is the Lynx Wildcat) we, for the first time learned how to fight an advanced aircraft, using all of the assets available to us, from intelligence on the ground using the Mk1 eyeball right up to utilising satellite info ex & more, my past experience as a JTAC proved very useful. When you put all the components of military flying together it’s an amazing thing. You have to think tactical but at the same time deal with all the usual stuff that the average pilot would experience. In much more testing conditions though, which is why I believe that military flying is THE BEST training you can receive. The USA & The UK obviously being the best at it. What I’m trying to get across is even if you didn’t do well at school, thought that you’re dreams of flying are over, joining the army with NO intention of becoming a pilot, that sometimes, if you are passionate enough, you CAN do it. Dreams are NEVER over, only YOU can self eliminate. Make them have to push you through that door if they are trying to tell you no. That attitude WILL get noticed & WILL be you’re best friend. So, when you are crawling through that mud, freezing cold, wearing that 50 kg backpack ensure you have the right attitude & you will magically find that dreams will find their path to you. So, that’s how it works people, now, go & do it ✅. As the man says, MAKE THEM TELL YOU NO!!!!!! Make them force you out that door. No matter what situations you find yourself in, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY. Now, it’s up to you.........I am now retired, I did want the opportunity as a last hurrah to fly the British version of the Apache. The AH64E. Which was bought from the USA & upgraded by British Aerospace BAE, we had the opportunity to put modern Rolls Royce Turbomeca engines & an updated radar targeting system, a world beating defence system plus the upgrades to operate from naval vessels. This would of been great to get the chance to go to sea but I was just old by this time. I don’t regret anything & please always work off the principle of never self eliminate. Discovered FlightChops vids a little over a year ago.... met him at Oshkosh 2019 for the first time and learned the RV build was taking place relatively close by. The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association is a phenomenal place. I can’t thank Steve and all the volunteers enough for all the hospitality that has been extended. What a weekend for you guys ! so much passion for aviation in that hangar and now I am convinced the only colour for aeroplanes is yellow,how the RAF could say that black was the most visiable colour for training aeroplanes ? it has been yellow since the thirties,easy to see and it looks lovely.Really good to see youngsters encouraged in this way,we need as much airmindedness as possible in any nation,top marks FlightChops and I only wish that CAHS was closer because I sure would lend an hand maintaining those beauties,keep them flying !
That was wonderful to see all those people get to fly. One Memorial Day in Santa Paula, CA I dropped by the airport and asked the banner towing pilot of "Spirit of Opek", a 750 hp clipped wing Stearman, what it would take to get a ride. I had $50 and he said you are covered. We flew a circuit of cities towing a banner that lasted 2 1/2 hrs. What a day!
Fantastic. It is always great to share the experiance of flight, as even in this age, so few get the chance to fly (let alone in classics). Keep it up FC!
My first flight was in a Stearman :) A family friend took all the neighborhood kids to the airfield to take a ride in his buddy's Stearman in Hackettstown NJ. I was maybe 85 lbs and the seat belt was loose so I didn't want to do any stunts. Lots of fun. Got my airmans in 2002.
This is awesome. So happy for all the people that made it there. I'm hoping to see the next build update shortly. I saw this video was posted last night, but didn't watch it until today. However, it somehow ended up in my dreams, and when I saw 'the build', it was complete from the firewall forward, and most of the way back, but no empennage or wings yet. I do 'know' it had something like a TSIO-550 in it, though. Yeah, so much for dreaming. LOL It's going to be great when you finish this.
An absolute yes to experiences over stuff! How about doing a Harvard formation flight out of CYTA with 427 and/or 450 SQN from GSN Petawawa. Steve, I know you'd love to fly alongside a Chinook or two :)

Joanna really enjoyed the flight time. Gorgeous smile while in the air. And on the ground, even when grinding. A pity she is so far away to join in regularly. The other lady and young Sarah too enjoyed themselves.
The is solid aviation gold! Kudo's to Sarah's parents, Sarah, did I mention Sarah?, Jo (she sounded like she's ready to get her license to me and she was definitely the right person to win), Greg... I should have just said everyone... lots of people having fun. I can't lie, when AOPA first announced the RV-7 sweepstakes I said "awe man, I wanted to win an IFR capable C182" but... I'd take the RV-7 with no complaints. That is one fast little aircraft. It always makes me smile to see women in aviation being promoted. Nailed it...
Right from the get go, I was like - this was cut together by someone different. It's not your usual pacing. The open/tease feels like it was put together by someone who is used to building very impactful spots. Nice change up - Steve.
What is the aircraft at the 2:10 mark? At first I thought it was a Mustang, but after I looked twice it seems like a smaller home built version of a Mustang. Another fun video. Thanks for making me smile!
There's a couple of companies that make slighly smaller scale replica kits of Mustangs. Titan makes one they call the T-51 which is pretty awesome in my opinion. Lots of videos of them here on youtube with all sorts of engines. Everything from a basic Rotax or Subaru engine up to Corvette LS3 engines. Check out the channel on here called SocialFlight. He's building one with his sons in his house and it is great fun to watch. Oh yeah, there's even one with a BMW V-12 engine made to look and sound pretty similar to the original Merlin.
This video will take on a whole new meaning if we come back 5 years from now and hear that she got flipped over in a Cessna (say, by turbulence) and the unusual-attitude experience saved her life!

What a huge success you're giving here! I hope to meet you at Oshkosh in 2020. Harold Krier, Ashland, Kansas, flew a Chipmunk. My home town, Bucklin, KS is just 25 NNE of Ashland. If you can't fly in the wind,,,, then don't go to SW Kansas.

I should have just said everyone... lots of people having fun. I can't lie, when AOPA first announced the RV-7 sweepstakes I said "awe man, I wanted to win an IFR capable C182" but... I'd take the RV-7 with no complaints. That is one fast little aircraft. It always makes me smile to see women in aviation being promoted. Nailed it...

What is the aircraft at the 2:10 mark? At first I thought it was a Mustang, but after I looked twice it seems like a smaller home built version of a Mustang. Another fun video. Thanks for making me smile!
There's a couple of companies that make slighly smaller scale replica kits of Mustangs. Titan makes one they call the T-51 which is pretty awesome in my opinion. Lots of videos of them here on youtube with all sorts of engines. Everything from a basic Rotax or Subaru engine up to Corvette LS3 engines. Check out the channel on here called SocialFlight. He's building one with his sons in his house and it is great fun to watch. Oh yeah, there's even one with a BMW V-12 engine made to look and sound pretty similar to the original Merlin.
