  • ANNUAL ANTIQUE RESELLERS BRING VINTAGE SPECIALTIES SELDOM SEEN
    Nearing the end of a remarkably good Florida antique show season, we prepare for our last show in West Palm Beach, and wonder who among the dealers who come for the giant extravaganza are staying on for my last show.
    The fresh dealers congregate for the extrav in an extra building, and we get to see lots of vibrant vintage glass, ceramics, furniture and art, advertising and specialists in Weller Pottery, silver cases, deco lighting and a space filled with nothing but canes and walking sticks!
    This group are finders of thus fun and unusual. Lucite lamps and heavily carved Chinese dragon cabinets loom large for interior collectors to ponder, while another dealer from tony Delray Beach wows us with Uzbek textiles, a Georgian map and a French fashion icon. The overflow hall is overflowing with unusual pieces, right down to a case of motorcycle club memorabilia.
    Seeing this makes me happy to be packing for one last Florida show for the season! West Palm Beach is a show with decidedly more than run of the mill stuff, and it's exciting to think who and what will be coming this time around.
    Here's some more of what we see during this show tour:
    Canes, swagger sticks, carved folk art, costume jewelry, silver card and cigarette cases, compacts, Motor Maids patch, Gypsy Tour awards, ikat, Aigner photo of LaGuardia, signed Jimi Hendrix album, Victorian garnet jewelry, sporting charms, butterfly wing jewelry, Navajo rings, Italian sgrafitto pottery, Swedish glass console bowl, Loetz vase, Palatnik pelican, Dr. Pepper bottlecap sign and clock, laundry sign, Bradley & Hubbard door stop, etc.

    George the sign after the dr pepper items that said Pullars of Perth was for a firm from Perth in Scotland, there is a wikipedia page about John Pullar and his businesses and family . the sign being made in birmingham makes more sense now . i enjoyed seeing the variety of walking sticks too

      It is so great to take notes on how George is so inclusive and fun and still educational..not a pushover...there seems to me to be a greater enjoyment in the folks who find their expertises and rhythms..so it is both professional, not snobby but accurate...for all. I do not have experience...but 25 years ago when I was young enough with a few sheckles to play with the Barbie thing again,,,whoooowhey...it got to be the kind of girls that stole your "clo" singular then for clothes. Their were a few wonderfuls.

    If someone had picked up watching this video about the time you were showing the concert roller cylinder player, they would be forgiven if they thought they clicked on the wrong 'channel' and thought they were watching "The Antiques Roadshow". @@TheAntiqueNomad George, I did a little research on the poster of the woman with the boa since I loved it. Rene Gruau (1909-2004) is the the artist who created it. It's called Rouge at Noir. I found a signed copy of a limited edition print for $1,000 which didn't seem too bad until I saw it would cost another $1,000 to ship! One thing I was skeptical about was the fact that the dealer said the artist had work(s) in The Louvre. Online, I found other references that said the same thing. But, when I searched the Louvre database, I came up empty. This makes sense since, for the most part, the Louvre doesn't hold many (or any) works that were created past the 19th century. Anyway, thanks again for the interesting video and for sharing your knowledge.

    I adore watching and seriously trying to glean knowledge which I pray if I watch long enough things will be repeated and I'll learn more..lol..and then you make the ammo joke learning with us, LOL...that rusty Dr. Pepper top sign,,,wow remembering pop night on a sleepover with my friend 3 weeks apart and tying to poor as much of the stuff as we could in a glass and then making just the crisp top of a fruit crisp...her mom letting us learn,..lol...she being youngest of 6...I LOVE all the glass..I saw what I assume was a real Lalique L'Air du Temps..Nina Ricci perfume bottle with all those other beauties,,,WOW....I have last bottle of mom's I gave to her and top is plastic but the doves and it is still wonderful and oh 10 years old now. Her scent from her youth and young adult era... Bless you and thank you for taking us..it is so much fun. Oh the posters, the canes, the fabrics, the jewelry, the lucite, all the glass and pottery and oh so much more..wow..Oh I just love old stuff...lol..thanks.

    Good evening, George! OMG! I would've been a nut case over that Dr. Pepper bottle cap sign🤪...rusty or not!!! How much was that thing? Those canes were OTT! I would've loved to have gotten in those. Some of them actually looked like they could've been sword canes. The ivory ones are beautiful. Do you ever come across any jewelry with real jet in it? I've always liked that. Most of it was used for mourning jewelry, I think. I really liked the candle lamp in front of the Rene' Gruau painting. It's amasing how the Czech perfume bottles stand out from all the rest. There were tons of fantastic items there! Thanks for showing all of these great things!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark! I obviously thought of you when filming this one, I think it was $450 as is. I don't seem to ever find real jet jewelry, I'm told I do but it always proves to be glass. There were sword canes and I thought that whole display was just amazing. I'm impressed you know Gruau, I wasn't familiar and feel I should've been. Thank you for coming along!

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Good morning George! $450 isn't surprising for a Dr. Pepper sign...they're not that easy to come across, even a bit rusty. It's been a long time since I've seen real jet jewelry. I think the last time I saw any was at an Altrusa Club show decades ago. I thought some of those canes looked like they had the separation points for swords. There were some phenomenal canes in that collection. With me having a degree in art, we studied a lot of eras and styles of art, and I can remember some of the artists. That candelabra lamp, in front of the Gruau, is what I was zoomed in on. Actually, the Gruau and that lamp made a really interesting juxtaposition of styles. That was a super-nice show! Thanks for taking us along!
