    I don't want to be misunderstood in the comment that I made earlier about how I love the story of the Florida Highwaymen. I'm not in love with how they were treated, I am in love with their art. Their story is important and needs to be told.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! The fact that someone saw their potential instead of their skin color is a pretty great story though

    You were not kidding about the jewelry being "eye popping" that stuff was gorgeous!!! WOW factor included. The thing I found most interesting was the Florida Highway men and 1 woman. I think people should be recognized for their talent not the color of their skin. Thanks for taking me along with you on this journey it was great. Have a great day

    My favorite part of this video were the Victorian cups without the handles. Can you imagine drinking out of your saucer today. People would think you were uncouth.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems funny to us, but back then, adding a handle to a cup was expensive and hard to ship!

    Incredible story of the Florida highway men and woman. I love their art. Loved that vertical single palm tree paint in a dusty matte white frame. I learned how to appreciate that style too, very naive too. The pieces with crashing waves are stunning really. Very pleasant to look at. And their history makes the pieces extra special. History matters. I really enjoy learning from you. Fantastic show. Would love to visit a place like that.

    In addition to lucite purses in the '60's, there was another fashion accessory. Lucite high heels.
    I remember the ones my mother had in the very late 50's. Very stylish. The heels were lucite with gemmy type of things in them and the shoe part was a heavy clear plastic across the front of the foot. It'd be nice to see a pair of those on the market.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see them once in a great while! They were so fashion forward that most pairs got worn to death by their original owners, so they sell for pretty good prices now

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Although I was born in SoCal, we moved up to SanFrancisco area because my dad was in the Navy. I had a most lovely childhood around the Half Moon Bay area. Back in those days, it was still a rural area.

    At 16:03, I saw something from Laverne & Shirley fly by. I don't know whether it was a game, toy or sheet music. It's fun to think about, though. At 28:43, the sweet dog (next to the sedan thing you were talking about) caught my eye. The lucite purses take my breath away, they are so pretty. Loved the jewelry you showed us as well.

    Loved vid George. I placed bid on Fenton carnival glass vase in green with peacock and won (after few bids on EBay). When I took vase out of box on delivery to Australia I was gob smacked at beauty. The colours are green with gold, bronze peacock. I put vase safely on top of my cupboard where I can look up and stare at it. Glenda. Australia 💕

    The Highwaymen art is gorgeous. I hope they or their estates exist and get credit. Did you know g*psy is pejorative for Romani? I have a copper necklace that really seems to match the leafy Rebajes piece. I didn’t find a mark on it but maybe I missed it.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine Gypsy is not a kind word when expressed to a Romani. We really need more words, it’s hard to know over time which might offend someone

  • @rickeydonald4756
    @rickeydonald4756 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, I am going to be on the lookout for Highwaymen paintings! I need to find a list of their names. People are even interested in those starving artist paintings from the 70s-80s that were sold at Holiday Inn weekend sales. Yes, you can even afford an original oil painting to put above that living room sofa! Of course mass production holds these paintings back. I think there are many that are as good or better than Bob Ross did.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck! They turn up occasionally., there’s a good book about them that lists their names

  • @Jane_Dow
    @Jane_Dow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really liked the paintings by Mary Ann Carole, she painted with more vibrant colors. Why in that era in time did a lot of people paint in drab colors, while a few picked the more life like color schemes ?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It seemed to vary by the artist’s personal taste but also by what they saw selling. They were trying to make a living doing something people tried to keep them from doing so they were very commercially focused. I see a lot of dark and jewel tone colors in their late 1960s work but brighter colors later
