First Strike Still Deadly is amazing, I spun that CD constantly at the time of release. Agreed on Demonic, iys my least favourite Testament album by a considerable distance. Cheers
@@mrboulder9714 Yeah I've always loved that album and the idea of the album. I wish more bands rerecorded their old albums. The thing was that 80s riffs for me were the best, but the modern sound works better for me. So when you put together riffs from The Legacy which is probably my favorite album they ever did regarding just music & music writing without the sound, and you combine those riffs with modern sound, you get perfect marriage. Yeah Demonic is also my least favorite from Testament. It has about 2 or 3 good songs on it. I don't mind if they wanted to sound heavier just like I don't mind them wanting to be more melodic on The Ritual. The problem was with lack of quality riffs and songwriting in my opinion. That being said Demonic sounds pretty awesome. I think the drums might not be sampled on that album and if that's true, that might be one of my favorite drum sounds as far as natural drums go. Most people say they love "natural drum sound", but the truth is that with Thrash and Death and Black and all the extreme metal music it's really hard to make a good sounding album without at least adding drum samples to kik and snare. I personally most of the time prefer natural drums enhanced with drum samples over just natural drums.
My ranking for the Testament albums would be🤘 12. Low 1994 11. Demonic 1997 10. The Ritual 1992 9. Brotherhood Of The Snake 2016 8. Souls Of Black 1990 7. Dark Roots Of Earth 2012 6. Titans Of Creation 2020 5. The Gathering 1999 4. The Formation Of Damnation 2008 3. The Legacy 1987 2. The New Order 1988 1. Practice What You Preach 1989
Great video! Inspires me to pull the Testament collection off the shelf. Practice What You Preach was my first Testament exposure, so I have to put it towards the top of my list.
Great list as always. Brotherhood of the Snake, The Legacy definitely killer album. The Formation of Damnation was the album that got me back into listening to Testament. Did not know the album The Gathering existed so I will certainly seek out that one and give it a listen. Thanks for that suggestion.
My ranking is a lot different than yours but that’s ok , we all see ‘em a little different lol ! I did get to see Testament open for Judas Priest in ‘08 on The Formation Of Damnation Tour , awesome show & yes Paul’s drumming on that album is top notch ! Cheers James 🤘
Love this ranking. I find lately in the VC that the ranking videos are sometimes controversial?!?! Which I looove, because sticking to the same sort of “mainstream rankings” get dreadfully boring. Well done man and I enjoyed this!
Unfortunately, I don't really like "Souls of Black", only the title track is great. The newest incarnation of Testament with Steve DiGiorgio and Gene Hoglan is great for me. "Roots ...", "Brotherhood ...", "Titans ..." are brilliant albums. And they don't take prisoners at gigs, I've seen them several times and it was always top-notch. Superb ranking video, James. Cheers!
Yeah they are brilliant live it has to be said. I remember reading that Souls of Black was rushed out so that might be why some people don't like it. Cheers Fozzie 🙂
@@mrboulder9714 I don't know, I don't like the sound from "Souls..." and the compositions are also not very good for me. The best thing about this album is the cover and as I wrote before, only the title track is excellent.
Haha. It's still a great album for me Tony but they've just got so many great records that it's gotta be something really outstanding to be placed higher up
Awesome ranking video. I would put Practice what you preach higher, but that's only because it was my introduction to the band when I first started listening to metal. They were my first non big 4 thrash band too. I agree they have been more consistent than any of the big 4.
Testament should have always been part of the 'big 4' and Anthrax kicked out. My ranking is different as will others based on when they discovered Testament. For me, Practice What You Preach is the best, but that's when I discovered them :). Great update and ranking!!!
Top video mate, I'd swap the new order and the formation of damnation around but apart from that I'd say your ranking was pretty much spot on. I've never met anyone who likes demonic, very forgettable album. Keep up the good work fella.
Great video Mr B. These guys have been killing it for years along with Death Angel and Exodus. Anthrax doesn’t hold a light to any of the 3. Eric P. always surrounded himself with the absolute best musicians and Chuck B. is stellar front man. Great band with a great discography. (Anthony)
Cool ranking. A few surprises which is good. Think I'll look into that mid era more as I'm not too familiar with it. Agree with you about the "lesser" bands putting out better quality albums of late 🤘🤘
Cool video mate, never been a massive Testament fan. I have Low which is ok and a best of that does me fine. Really enjoy these ranking videos though. Take care and stay safe. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Woe big surprise there. Formation put me off them for years. I'm eventually warming to modern day output from them but I find it impossible to get genuinely excited about what they do now because it hold nothing in the way of a surprise, but you like what you like and that's all you can do lol
You can’t have “Low” higher than “Practice”! You’ve gone mad James, lol! Testament have to go down as one of the greatest thrash bands in history! First 4 albums are Thrashterpieces! Talking of mad, I’ve still not heard Titans, shame on me eh!! Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on each of their albums mate!!🤘🏻
Great stuff. Testament are so consistent its difficult to put them in order. My top is Souls of Black then Practice what you Preach. Not a massive fan of the first 2 and The Formation of Damnation is the only album I don't really like. More than Meets the Eye is excellent but the rest isn't for me. I keep giving it a go but can't get into it.
The Ritual is one of favourites. I think Low is my least favourite along with Practice Preach. Those 2 don't do it for me apart from couple of tracks. I've stayed away from Demonic.
1. The Legacy 2. The New Order 3. Practice What You Preach 4. Souls of Black 5. Dark Roots of Earth 6. The Gathering 7. The Formation of Damnation 8. Titans of Creation 9. Brotherhood of the Snake 10. The Ritual 11. Low 12. Demonic

Dark Roots is good but for me Damnation is better
