    Hi,
    I have couple of questions.
    Most of the cards say zero cross currency markup. But, what about the conversion charges while making cross currency transaction?
    Also, which card gives better exchange rate. I looking for a card to use in Norway

    • @bankexpert
      @bankexpert  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think Niyo DCB/Equiats bank debit cards are the best because they offer zero forex markup fees. You can check it out for more details.

    Hi, I need your advise on the below scenario.
    I already have this card setup for CAD while I was travelling to Canada a year back.
    Now since I am planning to make a trip to the UK, can I add a new currency ( GBP ) in the card and reload it ? Or reload the usual CAD and loose extra 2-3 % markup fees when spending in the UK.

    • @bankexpert
      @bankexpert  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, if you pay through CAD in the UK, you pay 3.5% cross-currency fees.
      Yes, you can load GBP.

      It depends if you are NRI ? Transfer is self to self or Parents/relative to NRI.
      Based on this you will fall under two categories LRS and Million Doller scheme.
      After you have figured out where you fall.
      Next is how to transfer out...
      Easiest is via ICICI bank no hassle (u might need additional documentation)
      You can use Thomas cook as well but rates are shitty.
      ICICI bank ull pay around 1000Rs fees + Conversation rate + 20 ish AUD .
      For around 12 lacs.
      Gov. does not want you to take money out!

    • @bankexpert

      1. To transfer money from India to Australia, use Western Union.
      2. Use PayPal for international transactions. In case you cheated with the merchant, maybe PayPal will refund your money.

      Normal debit/credit cards charge a 2% to 3.5% forex fee. I am not suggesting that you go with any Forex cards right now. because now many credit cards come with zero forex markup fees, like the Scapia credit card, Niyo Global credit card, and the IDFC WOW credit card. You should take anyone of these if you are required.

    Following is a scenario. Suppose someone wants to visit Vietnam and wants Vietnam Dong (VND), which is not allowed on the forex card (as I have seen most forex cards dont allow VND). The traveller then loads USD (say @80 INR per USD rate, and loses 2-3% for USD loading) and then again in Vietnam when this card is used to pay in VND in POS or withdrawing from any ATM a cross currency charge of 2%+GST is levied (USD converts to VND) .. so in total INR to VND conversion takes 5%+ as transaction charges. If this is correct, then why not simply use the Indian Bank's Debit card/ credit card which charges 5-6% as transaction charges .. (this is ignoring local Vietnam bank charges, forex card loading/issuance/refund etc. charges)
    Please explain the above situation how is a forex card beneficial as compared to a debit/ credit card ?

    • @bankexpert
      @bankexpert  ปีที่แล้ว

    HDFC also has a Regalia Single Currency USD prepaid forex card.
    My RM is encouraging for that , saying that it can be used for various other currency with zero markup later on.
    More wider use.
    My main purpose to get is upcoming travel to Europe.
    I am not sure if there is any advantage in the Regalia vs the Multi Currency and why the banker is trying to push for that.
    Please advise reg this.

      According to my knowledge, don't take a single-currency card because it only works in one currency. A single currency card is good for students or those who stay for many months in that country.
      If you travel to many countries, then a multi currency card is good. because every time you don't need to change the card.
      Scapia is a very good card because it comes with zero forex charges. Along with you, you should take an HDFC multi currency card.

    1. Does the card charge any extra charges for online shopping, ATM cash withdrawal?

    • @bankexpert
      @bankexpert  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much
      1. There are no extra charges for online shopping, but ATM cash withdrawal charges are applicable.
      2. When you reload the money, like INR to USD, at that time the exchange rate will be applicable. and you used USD after a month, there is no exchange rate applicable. but if you load USD and you want to spend in euros, then another exchange rate will be applicable. (Exchange rates are locked at the time when you reload money.)
