Hafa Adai... Harmon was my village during the mid-1960s until we moved to Agafu Gumas around 1970. The spot where McDonald's now stands was once our school bus stop. The road was a mere two lanes leading up to Barrigada Hill. The route from McDonald's to Dededo was just a small, bumpy dirt path. Our modest abode was a tin house with two bedrooms and a small living room. The windows were wooden louvers, and one bedroom featured a hinged plywood window. Our kitchen was set up outdoors. As a child, my duties included feeding the pigs, chickens, pigeons, and rabbits. During rainfall, I had to arrange about six 55-gallon drums to collect rainwater from the roof through a large gutter. I had to monitor the drums and switch them out as they filled. Once full, I'd cover each drum with a clean white sheet, secured with an old bicycle tire inner tube to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. The kitchen floor was made of asphalt, a remnant of the old airfield that once occupied the site. Another task was to venture into the jungle to gather tang'an tong'an, split them, and lay them out to dry for firewood. Once dried, I'd stack them under the stove for cooking. We used an open fire for cooking; I'd prepare coffee in an old pot and cook rice. Reflecting on those times, life was good-peaceful and simple. It might seem difficult, but it was normal for us. My adult children believe I had a rough upbringing, but it wasn't really the case. Those were the best years of my life. Nowadays, while the homeless manage to get by, it can be perilous. Since retiring for the second time, I've continued to grow in wealth and always strive to give back and pay it forward. Blessed by God, my family and I believe in giving back. I hope to devise a plan to feed the homeless when I return home, perhaps through a food truck serving different locations, offering food and clothing without charge. Esta

@@planetguam8475 There was no running water, only newspapers instead of toilet paper, and no flush toilets. Instead of electricity, I relied on kerosene lamps, which required daily cleaning and refilling. To ward off mosquitoes, I would light mosquito coils. During heavy rains, water would flow through and under the house, and we would sit by the doors, dipping our feet in the water. Playing in the rain was a frequent and enjoyable activity. Our shower room was a makeshift enclosure of plywood and 2x4s, and without an outhouse, the nearby jungle served our needs.

How embarrassing to see a video like this of my home. People like that make our island look bad. I’ve become somewhat heartless towards these homeless because they choose to suffer on the streets than to just get a job. It’s pure addiction and laziness. I know this girl and her “family” aka her Cronic friends. Some of them even have homes. They just choose to stay on the streets to be with their “friends”.
