World record from 11/30/2016 - 4/9/2017. Played on a real AV Famicom with a real Famicom Disk System attachment.
This category can only be completed on the Famicom Disk System version of the game - the NES and Famicom versions will still allow you to access the minus world, but it will be an infinitely looping water stage that cannot be completed.

I remember trying to speed runs in the mid 90s on this game. We played every level though, this was a long time before even old school speed running in the early 2000s. I'm only 33 but when I was 12-14 we tried everything under the sun in the old systems cause we got the N64. Great work dude

use the FDS version of the game. the NTSC and PAL nes versions do not take you to this minus world.

What's the difference between any% and other stuff?
any% means just beat the game as fast as possible with no restrictions. Some games have other categories that disallow certain elements or glitches in the game to make for a more interesting run. For instance, Super Mario Bros. has any% for beating the game as fast as possible without restrictions, but also has a category called "Warpless" which prohibits use of the warp zones so that you must play all 32 stages in the game. Another example is Zelda games usually having a category called "100%" that involves collecting all items in the game.

Hi to all, can someone explain me why the minus world of derbian is different to anotger minus worlds?
The Japanese minus world is different to the rest of the world's
The Famicom Disk System minus world is different than the NES or Famicom one.
This is like a hundred meters runner setting a record in running 300 meters in the other direction.
How do you get to minus world(s) in this Super Mario?

Only disk system version to my knowledge. iirc the regular Famicom version has the same Minus World as the NES version

That's right. Since I control the timer manually sometimes I'll be a few milliseconds early and sometimes I'll be late. Super Mario Bros. is kind of a special case since you'll have a lot of splits be exactly the same each time (assuming you have splits for each level).

Entering the pipe before that screen is fully loaded puts you into a glitched level. In the Famicom Disk System version of this game, the level is completable, leading to two more completable levels.

Why does the minus world differ between the Famicom and the NES. Did the developers intentionally change the code on the Fami to make the minus world different and beatable?
FDS disks handle storage differently to carts, so what data is after the area lookup table (i.e. what is read to determine the level data) would differ.

Anyone have tips for speedrunning this category? I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to speedrunning. I'm using LiveSplit, fceux windows 7 to play on, and an Xbox 360 controller as input. This is all definitely subject to change at some point in the near future. The Xbox D-Pad is complete and utter junk, but whatever. The reason I got into speedrunning is because I don't like to waste time while playing, as I'm used to playing games in very small amounts of time. Thanks for whoever actually took the time to read this.
maybe start out with a different category. the clip in 1-2 is really hard and precise to do. darbian has an any% tutorial, and there are tutorials for every level on the speedrun com guide pages.

You get to the secret levels, if you glitch through the last wall in 1-2 and then use the leftmost of the 3 pipes
