Here's why the Toyota GR Yaris makes no sense

  • Here's a 2021 Toyota GR Yaris, most likely the most special modern hot hatchback. Made by Gazoo Racing, this is a car that should've never been made. Why? This is what I'm going to talk to you about in this review and test of this Japanese car by Lucas Abriata. A car that was sold in the UK, Europe and Australia. A sports car, a hot hatchback and something that seems to come straight out of the 1980s.

    I've daily driven my GR Yaris for 81,000km and have aftermarket coilovers with a harsher ride from stock. Perfect car to drive everywhere!

      Hahaha, I assume different owners have different tolerances. I agree with you, though! I daily drove my "track car" a few years ago.

    Owned my for two years now. Absolute hoot to drive, especially on wet mountain roads. It will literally make anything poop its panties in the right conditions - which means miserable weather and tight bends.

    WRC regulations forbid fitting aero components to doors, as I understand it that's the primary reason for building this with only two. It's also way way cooler as Akio says. I daily mine, wouldn't swap it for anything.

    Its just a homologation car simple. No rhyme or reason, just built for a purpose!!! Rally!

    I can almost guarantee you Toyota wrapped the CFRP roof to avoid epoxy sun damage. I would 100% leave the protective wrap on (or pull it and apply different UV protection).

    1) The engine wasnt made specifically for thr gr yaris (and/or corrolla), it's an engine made that will likely be used (in many mild variants) in other models.
    2) The rear seats are useful, there are hundreds of people using them with children, they have child reatraint positions etc.
    3) The car is dailied by thousands of people. It has all thr basic comfort festures tou mentioned and more.
    4) The paint thickness is EXACTLY the same aa every other toyota, tested wirh calibrated paint thickness testers.
    Do sowm research and actually experience it for yourself before making a rushed production with misinformation.

    • @abriatus
      @abriatus  ปีที่แล้ว

      1) It’s a GR engine. So far, 3 years in, it hasn’t been used in anything else.
      2) Sure, they’re useful for children. But so are the seats in a 911 which is a car no one would ever say has useful rear seats. You’re not taking adults back there.
      3) Once again, some people daily track cars with roll cages, harnesses and bucket seats. It doesn’t mean it’s a practical car to daily, but it depends on your tolerances.
      4) Maybe, since I didn’t test it (just went by what the owner told me and the many complaints of rock chips and scrapes GR Yaris owners’ complain about

      Here's all the facts to your nonsense;
      1) It's used in 2 cars right now and will be used in at least another 2 according to Mr. Toyoda.
      2) No, the 911 has ~100° (essentially forward facing)
      backrests, the Yaris doesn't, it has PLENTY more leg room, proper ISOfix anchors etc. not comparable. I've got 2 kids seats in mine, they kids are comfortable. Adult passengers also, you can do that in a 911.
      3) It's a comfy daily with adjustable heated seats, heated wheel, AC with separate passenger climate, power windows, power mirrors, android auto/car play, Bluetooth, USB etc.
      4) The owner was wrong and you should have checked the misinformation before passing it on again. Just use a PTT on it and any other Toyota or any other asian car for that matter.

      Must say, I have had several adults in the back of mine, and every single one said the rear seats were more comfortable and roomy than they would have thought. (Could use a touch more headroom tho)

    The gr yaris was ment to be a homoligation special for the wrc. Tgr wrt actually developed a prototype of it that would have been used in 2021 but since the rule change they didnt use it.
    The current yaris rally 1 car is losely based on this and the current in developement rally 2 car uses the chassis

    Havent diven the circuit pack or rallye as its called here in australia, but the suspension on the standard is very nice for dailying. Firm-ish, so it feels solid in corners, but not crashy and still does a great job removing bumps
