@@honestperson3042 The female voice is just better. Whether it’s Mariah Whitney even someone on the level of Kelly Clarkson it’s hard for a male singer to even compare. There are obviously amazing male artist but IMO their voices can’t compare to a great female singer.

I saw Mariah on her 2018 Caution tour at the Royal Albert Hall. "The last time I was here I was singing with Luther Vandross" she said, and then proceeded to break out into this song. Incredible!

Yes! She is very respectful when singing with legends or people she admires. Like she said, “You don’t do runs and try and out sing when you’re on stage with a legend”, I don’t know if she said that verbatim, but she said something along the lines of that. That’s why she’s a legend herself and why she has gotten so far in life. Besides her incredible talent, she is respectful
Funfact: when mariah was recording this song (original track) she felt intimidated by luther but still she managed to produce a superb sound.

Aww this was my sister's favorite. I once played this loud in our house and she instantly fell inove with it. Since then she'd ask me to play this when we're playing music. Sadly she passed away last Sept. She's my endless love 🤍

I’m 23, so I didn’t discover his entire discovery until I was older, I obviously heard “Never Too Much” and other hits, but when I went back to look at his work, omg! His voice is like silk. Luther concert at Wimbledon is AMAZING- his cover of superstar by the carpenters still brings a tear to my eye.
Luther Vandross was a great song writer and producer. He voice is like no other but his superpower is music and vocal arrangements. This duet was on his album. There was not a note he didn't approve of on this song. More Luther please.

@@brandong298 That's the other thing Luther did so well. When he remade a song, he truly made it his own, and often times it was better than the original. See A House Is Not A Home or Superstar.

@@viviha34 his music director and keyboardist Nate Adderly, Jr should get a tremendous amount of credit as well. There's a video of the two of them doing a tutorial and you'll understand what I'm saying better.

Exactly. That's why they worked so incredibly well together. Just listen to all Mariah's covers as well..she completely reimagines the songs. And they're, imo, better than the originals.
Hell, she would remix her own songs and she'd give us new lyrics, melodies, vocal arrangements etc.

I don’t even know how I found you, but I’m here for all of what you are teaching! 😍 I would adore your take on AllenStone and his very unique use of “mouth movements” to create such a beautiful sound. He reminds me of a modern day Stevie Wonder. He has so many great songs to choose from-but TheWind is a fav. Not a singer, but learning to hear so much than just the words. My Husband is a speech -language therapist and his medical jargon makes SO much sense mixed with your vocal expertise. Thank you for such a wonderful way to look at art!

It's just a demonstration of good rhythm. Typically singers don't prioritize learning musicianship and/or rhythm. It's a mistake that comes with significant consequences if they want to 1. Record a song and 2. Work with other musicians.
@@LesageSinging wow so do singers have to consciously listen to the background instrument to stay in rhythm or is it a feel the music type of thing?
@@pika7623 A little bit of both. Its nice to have it there for reference, but a singer really needs an internal metronome. It also has a little to do with technique. If you hit a consonant too hard, you can easily go slightly off time.
@@LesageSinging wow that makes sense. I wonder if instrument players sometimes instinctively drag a certain note or improvise notes so that the singer can stay “in rhythm” with them if they feel the singer going out of rhythm. That’d be some seriously heart racing amazeballs stuff.

I am the volume knob. I just said something like that 3 weeks ago in the jazz club jam session. One of the musicians gestured for me to ask the band leader to turn up the mic for me because I was singing Them there eyes on bass notes and it naturally blends with the electric bass at times. I my signs back were thums up, knod and a stomac pat LOL
I recommend practicing with #Smule, also and doing duets with people... it helps with TIMING. my mom's biggest critique of me is timing. she is tryign to get me more pop, because I like drawing out notes and being lazy on vowels unless singing classical LOL
