my suboxone doctor started me out at 16mg a day for a 60 milligram oxy addiction when deep down i knew that 2mg would of been plenty. 16mg is what they give to heroin users. now its 8 years later and the shit (16mg subs) is harder to get off of than pills. if i would of known it'd be this bad i would've just stuck out the 1 week of hell instead of 6 months. tired of having no interest in most things. trying for the 3rd time to taper.

16mg is so high for many. 2-4mg is plenty for most to maintain (well, 0.5mg - 4mg lol). I understand induction often requires more but jeez I feel bad for those who had only mild-moderate opiate addiction (like 100mg of oxy/day or less) who are staying on such high bupe dosages

Yes I was only taking 40 ot 30 mg of percs 2 times a day after 2 back surgeries in 2 years. I requested suboxone as a friend said it would help me get off percs . Now I'm on 16mg of suboxone and it's even worse to stop. More expensive too. I never used anything before my back surgeries so I had no clue what I was getting into. I'm tapering off suboxone now as I have too my only Dr in my town is retiring. Other Drs will not. I could drive 3 hours out of state to see a suboxone Dr. I can't do that.

I am a fentanyl addict, and my doctor has me on 16mg, but 4mg would stave off the withdrawals. I believe the dosage is dependent on the person’s cravings, and not the withdrawal symptoms. While 4mg will work for me, I know if I take fentanyl, it will push out the suboxone, but not 16mg daily. It’s just my opinion, but 16mg is a high dosage. My first dose was at 24mg and moved down to 16mg.

Your doctor usually doesn't know how much you really need. Many people only need 2mg, 8mg or more would just get them high as a kite. Higher than they were getting before they got clean. Buprenorphine is 24 to 100 times stronger than morphine. Most doctors just think you should start on 16mg if you're an addict. But many times, that's over 20 times the dose equivilant of what they were doing. Doctors just have no idea usually how strong it really is. They try to start people so high, but they need to understand when they don't need it. Many, many people only need 2mg or less. Most people who start on 8mg get super high from it but don't wanna tell there doctor that. Because now they can legally get high every day. You need to prescribe what they need. Start low go up if you need it. 24mg is equal to about 1 full gram of morphine. A lot of people just don't need that much. The only reason more people stay when there at 16mg is because it gets them high. You dont just need a higher dose to be successful. 2mg will work the same as 16mg works for someone else. It all depends on your tolerance. Some people even get up to 40mg per day witch is crazy. Th only reason doctors are told to go higher is because pharmeceautical companies want to get as much money as they can. It's all based on lies. It saved my life but doctors need to understand when they're fucking someone over, and jacking there tolerance up 10 times what it was. Instead making it precise, and easier to get off of when you need to. They go up as high as they can so it'll be so hard to get off you'll never want to.
