I have been twice on antidepressants, first in my teens and then in my late 20s. I've been off now for good 4 years. The effects of antidepressants on me were transformative. I've talked about this in my channel. I noticed back in the day when I posted mine (same time as you posted yours) I got most recommendations from this video. My channel was inactive for a while but now I'm back - and eager to share about my experiences- on and OFF the meds.
@@WendyVaz Thank you dear! th-cam.com/video/zIUg361iz9k/w-d-xo.html here is the link- it's one of my first videos so little bit long but there are some nice tips too ::)
How awful when you tried everything lifestyle, including maintaining friendships + exercise, and all remaining is to bring those powerful meds into your bloodstream. Young, creative, voluble person with no substance cravings. We are not so alone and helpless.
Take it slow when you wind off. Your story tells me that you should stay on for a while yet. I have been on sertraline for 17 years every time I thy to stop depression kicks inn again in the matter of weeks. We are different so maybe you are lucky, I´,m just telling you to be carefull. Good video and i´m glad that it works fore you.
Thanks Joshua! My doctor decided to phase me out very slowly instead of taking me off the meds right away. I did 10mg for 6 months and now i'm down to my final stretch of 5mg for 6 months. Hopefully things go well!
thanks for your sharing. I felt supported after viewing your video. May I know how long did you feel the positive effect kicked in and also the full effect? I am taking citalopram for panic. Day 9 now. I was too ambitious to start with 20mg. OMG, all terrible side effects drove me crazy. insomnia, more anxiety, dizziness, shaky hands and jaws...I eventually lowered to 5mg on day 4. side effects are decreasing but still here. Like you, what makes me go on is the hope to become the original "me" by a couple of months. The hope pushes me to tolerate all side effects. I am happy to know you can get well eventually. I also hope everyone, treating depression or anxiety, can return to their normal, happy, interesting lives. God blessed.
@@chengwang4173 I don't recall a specific moment that it felt "kicked in" but by week 3 I felt more stabilized. Just slowly going back to neutral. To be honest it took months till I felt lifted, most of the time I felt indifferent 😅
@@WendyVaz appreciate your reply. I am on Day 11 only. still have very long hard time ahead. admire that you can enjoy life again. I am 48 y/o now and hope my age won't affect my journey to recover. Thanks

My experience with paxil is nothing short of live destroying. Spend 5 years trying to get off these after 20 years on them.. Worst advice I ever took was taking paroxetine as a teenager
unv how are You? I hope well. Can I make You a questions. ? Paxil works well for You for they 20 years? And why did You stop taking? I take paxil for anxiety? I hope You can answer to me. Than You do much? Sorry for My english
Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m just starting my trial with Zoloft (25mg Sertraline) after giving Mirtazapine a try for a month+ (way too sedative). I’ve noticed and heard several positives for Zoloft, but the nausea and anxiety spike has been awful (Day 2). How long did you take Sertraline before switching medications?
can anyone give an estimate of how long the process takes from getting a meeting with a psychiatrist to getting a prescription and actually picking up medication? i’m in te very initial step of reaching out but my anxiety is so bad that i’m afraid i’ll have another breakdown before i can even get help
Hi Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling right now. Honestly, I think it really depends on the healthcare system in your country as well as the severity of your case. I know for me personally, in Malaysia, it takes a longer time to get an appointment with the public healthcare system compared to private, however, if you're like suicidal then they'll escalate the case. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I really do hope that you feel better soon.
Took me less than 1 hour, no I'm not kidding, less than half hour GP appointment, she prescribed 42 50mg sertealine, I crossed the road to the pharmacy and picked up my prescription.
In most countries if you underline that your case is really severe and you can't take it, maybe even throw in the s-word, you will get treatment hastily.
You say you have been on lexapro for 1 year of date March 2018 But if you read your reply to the last content You say you have been off it for 2 years Posted last month Which contradict what you are saying You know what pisses me off Is people out their are really struggling with depression like I did And you get people like you who have thousands of followers getting paid to promote the drugs Have you notice all the people taking about depression drugs seem to have massive followers Then you watch other videos of them They don’t look depressed in any way People who suffer depression are suicidal Don’t use your rubbish comments about a drug you most likely don’t take , and promote it for business purpose It’s a joke
Hi Mick, I'm sorry that you are struggling. I was on SSRI from March 2017 to 31 Dec 2018, I've never mentioned that I'm off it for 2 years so I'll take it as a misunderstanding. I have no massive followers nor was I paid to promote drugs, I didn't even mention any brand names in my videos! I think it's very unfair for you to say that I was faking it, just because I "didn't look depressed". Depression works differently for everyone, and these videos were posted after I started taking medication and was feeling better. Even so, that doesn't mean that people who were depressed/suicidal don't smile and laugh. People cope differently with mental illnesses, which is exactly why it's so dangerous and has to be taken very seriously. Please don't impose your beliefs and values onto other people who were trying to get better, or was trying to share her experience in hopes that it might help someone else make an educated decision. Take care.
