Remember you can always use the print room supplies etc, grace always has stuff you can buy or things that are in the scrap box and there’s loads of different inks and things you can use 🥰 past student speaking tell grace I miss her 🥹
Ahhh no way, did you do print undergrad?? I definitely didn’t know about Grace’s room at the time 😂 I ended up ordering some gouache on Amazon cause I had no idea where else to go 😂😂😂
13:00 🤯 OMG what a beautiful fabric!! watching your vlogs make me so nostalgic of the summer I spent in England 10 years ago, it was so magical to be in a completely new space geared to accept students from all over the world and taking in all of the new sights, smells and experiences. Thank you for taking us along with you!!
Hi Andrea, this is so inspiring! I love both versions of your sketch book, you've motivated me to draw, sketch and make collages again - thank you!! 🙌😊
Your videos are soothing and craft inspiring as usual. When you were talking about your color palette not giving you that wow you were looking for, I thought about your trip to see your Grandmother. You had that sunshine smile almost the entire time. I bet if you close your eyes and use whatever floats into you in the theater of your mind, it would put some oooooo in your grove. Lastly, that jam you added was definitely jammin honey!😊
Hello from France 😊 Please continue your videos and your différent researches in colors combination and thoughts, it is so interesting ! I just love watching your adventure in textiles, fibers, wools, weaving, knitting and school stuff 😊 And by the way, you are so talented !! Thank you so much for bringing us along the way 😊
your revised sketch book looks amazing. I think I"ll have to do some playing with watercolors this weekend. If you are desperate for colors, you might look down the makeup aisle at a Boots or Poundland (or whatever you have available. You can use eyeshadows and nail polishes.
It's always a joy to enter your world. Very interesting about your exploration of colours and then to discover they didn't satisfy your inner creativity. I feel that art can't be produced for others, but must first, fulfil something within us. If others like it, great, if not, we're still able to enjoy the journey. Scotland is a beautiful place. So much to see and explore. Thank you for sharing your incredible journey. Say hello to your puss cat from me, down here in southern UK. All the very best, Valli
Hello again from Nashville TN, so glad you posted again! I am loving watching really great content, your videos almost make me feel like I’m right there seeing another country like through your eyes. You’re really great at your editing or whatever, keep them coming! I also love yarn, although I do not know how to weave. I crochet, watercolor paint, quilt, repaint furniture things like that because I love color. But as much as I love color - about every 20 years or so, I get like *colored out*, if that is a thing. And all I want to look at are soothing neutrals like the color of that stone wall that you were standing in front of mixed with some of the flower colors, but muted tone down a little bit. And then, eventually, I end up getting back into the color groove again. If you always work with color maybe try neutrals with a pop of color to wake up your color mojo. Amie 🐰🎨🖌🌈
During the soothing bird sounds, I'd hazard a guess to say the most vocal one was a robin. One of the easier birds to spot to see if it's the one singing!
I’m a textile sculptor and new to the Borders. I’m from sunny SouthEast Asia and have been in foggy island “adjustment” Your vlog gives such joy! I’m often in the college library these days and Heriott Watt and the Borders College are my go to happy places. That and the Scottish Borders walks.
Oh my gosh, I'm sure moving to Scotland has been a huge adjustment for you! It definitely was for me, coming from NYC. I hope it's been going well so far ❤️ The Borders is such a gorgeous part of the world, I really wish I could have stayed forever 🥲❤️❤️❤️
Your journal is so beautiful. You have a good taste to select materials, colours and your drawing skills excellent. I am waiting to see your channel all the time. I really enjoyed and love. Thank ❤😊
This is fascinating! A creative world that I know nothing about. (Except yarn. Definitely LOVE yarn. 🥰🧶) Your color palettes are inspiring me. Thank you for the effort you put into sharing.
G'morning Andrea, I so enjoy watching your study journey. When I was your age, I didn't know studying abroad was even a possibility. Your personality is so inspiring ;) As an art person I can totally appreciate your enthusiasm and it makes me happy inside. Your sketchbook pallets are coming along awesome, so interesting to see how colours and textures inspire different people differently. I adore that fabric that has girls in skirts on one side and a different pattern on the back - wow how do they do that !? ;) Seeing the different class areas and outside areas are fun and interesting. Thanks for the tour, and the gardens were spectacular ;) "Love rules the court, the camp, the grove, And men below, and saints above: For love is heaven, and heaven is love." -Walter Scott. "Look back, and smiles on perils past" - Walter Scott. You may not appreciate the second one until you have more life behind you ;) Thanks for sharing, your Canadian fan, Sunshine
So glad you have time to include us! I loved your color palettes. The only thing missing is some marine life connection. Is there marine life unique to Scotland?
You know me so well 🤣❤ I actually couldn't find an aquarium or anything the entire time I was there! I decided to take it as a challenge to try something completely different.
Im a crocheter learning continental knitting. Ive enjoyed seeing all your color selections and ideas. Im not much good at either. Seeing colors thru your eyes is fascinating. I enjoyed seeing the estate and grounds. I love going to museums. Sir Walter Scott sure had fanciful ideas for decorating. His chair reminded me of some of todays chairs. I can't wait to see what this week holds in store for you.
Really appreciate being alongside as you explore the color study process. Even though you didn’t find the penultimate palette there were some techniques that might lead to pleasing results with your chosen colors. I was playing with the idea of the moody colors of the Scott estate with a pop of one of the colors from the garden. Anyway your vlogs are interesting and make me smile. Hope the next week leads you closer to satisfaction with the project.
Awww, thank you for this very thoughtful comment 🥹 I really appreciate the support! Color is so hard and I usually have to play for quite a bit before I’m really happy, but I think that’s a part of the fun.
You took me back to my first weeks of studying design with looking at colour palates and experimenting with colours. You also to me back to when I studied Art with painting with jam. We had to make an artwork out of food. I ended up with the cheapest (and stinkiest) sandwich spread I could find.
Oooo, that was fun to join you for your week's adventures. After you shared the "autumn color palate plus cobalt blue" the sky behind you was that color! Your paintings looks lovely, but of course you will be happier and maybe more inspired when you choose colors that excite you.
How I love your videos! I think I have been following you since the early days and you always create such positive, inspiring content. You can really see your eye for beauty through your videos. Thanks for sharing! Have a nice week ~ stay cozy
This was so much fun. I loved your experiments with water colors and oil. And the palette with the startling cobalt blue is my favorite. But now I'm thinking I'll love the new palette you come up with even more. Sir Walter Scott's home was truly a highlight. I loved Ivanhoe when I read it many years ago so it felt more exciting to see where he lived and his wonderful weirdness. The flowers and birdsong were lovely. You're doing a great job of bringing us all along with you in Scotland!
I just love watching you and your videos. My hubby also likes watching your adventures. You are always so cheerful and fun to watch. I love fibre related everything. Keep up with the videos . I am a fan. Cheers.
Hi Andrea. I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying your videos. You are so talented and your lovely smile brightens up the world. I hope you are not feeling lonely in Scotland. Love from a mum in England..
You did so much with so little. True creativity. It felt that all three color ways were very similar and dark. The quick flick of the computer screen and examples on the desk, I think purple was involved, looked interesting. Excited to see what comes next. Scott's home WOW.
Recently discovered your videos and they're lovely! I'm 'up the road' studying at Edinburgh College of Art, thanks for making these - so inspiring (also made me briefly look into switching to Heriot Watt textiles haha!)
Thank you so much for sharing all this, Andrea, you've made my day! It's really dreich (pouring rain) here and I'm getting ready to go to sewing club, so you've given me so inspiration ❤
Hi Andrea, the old building on the campus, is that a former wooden mill? Also, do you have a shared kitchen with storage for your pans? Just loving this.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
So, when you were talking about your need to change your color pallets were you aware of the amazing color and texture pallets behind you. Maybe, just maybe you should work with what is around you and definitely include the rabbits that you are in love with.
Just subscribed ! Been following for a few months now. You're on your way to 10K ! Thank you for all the great adventures and displaying your work. Look forward to each one !
I love seeing your creative work in Scotland. So educational..for me as I haven't studied textiles in higher education. Your art work is beautiful. Im 71 and Im with you vicariously at Art School. Best wishes from Sydney Australia..Im Bondi Crafter on TH-cam. I make quilts and scarves 🧶🧶🪡🧵
What is not right was going to a once in a lifetime adventure and taking NO art supplies of which makes NO sense. Spending money for dorms and art studios. You should have just got a rental and did all the touring and site seeing which is way more interesting than sitting in a class. Flowers and castles is way more inspiring.
…this isn’t a vacation, I’m a student in a 3-year-long design program 😂 Dorms, classes, art studios (provided by the campus) and making do with what I have are a part of that experience.
Remember you can always use the print room supplies etc, grace always has stuff you can buy or things that are in the scrap box and there’s loads of different inks and things you can use 🥰 past student speaking tell grace I miss her 🥹

Painting with jam is the best idea ever. When you show the field of rabbits, I always think of Wallace and Gromit. Thank you for the virtual vacation.
Awww, the Wallace and Gromit reference made me smile! Thank you for tagging along with me 🥹❤️

I love the garden and the sweet sounds of the birds there. Thanks for sharing that.
I really enjoy your adventures. You are so true to youeself, which is so very inspiring. I check daily to see if there is a new video! Keep creating!

Also all the knits you wear are amazing, I love that dark raglan with wispy stripy varigation :) It's like a shooting star jumper

there is a scrap store in selkirk for random supplies

Are there any aquariums nearby? For creative ideas and colors you always resonate with a bit of “fish-spiration”!😊
You know me so well 🤣❤Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single aquarium!!!!
I’ve loved joining you on this adventure. Thanks for taking us along!
Did you ever make your Caterpillar shawl?
Charity shops and ask a local guild and they may pair you up with a local artist who can help with supplies.
I swear I searched through EVERY charity shop in Galashiels 😂 It really is a desert for supplies over here 😂😂😂
their version of facebook marketplace??@@AndreaAlexander
Maybe redundant info but UK Jackson's Art online is wonderful I even order there occasionally from US
Oooh, good to know! Thank you!
Oh you have to be able to take inspiration from swan butts!!!
Aren’t those just amazing! 🥹
What does the salt do?
I forgot to show the result, my bad! As the paint dries, it creates interesting pools and textures around the salt crystals.
Are you still in Scotland?
Where are you?
I'm back home now, but I'll be posting all of my vlogs from the entire semester throughout the beginning of this year! 🥰
you look like you're losing weight!
