- Time to revisit the game Soul Blade (named Soul Edge in Japan), with the sequels to this first game being named Soul Calibur. The latest in the series is currently Soul Calibur V (5), with Soul Calibur VI (6) hopefully in development!
This video looks at both the arcade and console versions of Soul Blade, taking a look at all the characters which are only playable with cheat devices. There are some characters who feature prominently in various characters' background stories for example, and others we never hear from again in the Soul series...
Hwang actually is playable on version 1 of Soul Edge. There's a code to unlock him for any region.
Hold start for the entire code.
Highlight Mitsurugi and press Up, then Down
Highlight Taki and press Up, Up, Down Down
Highlight Rock and press Down, Up, Down, Up
You'll then hear a sound. Move left of Rock and he's there.

Why do I enjoy watching videos about unobtainable stuff like this?
Namco had to rename the series as Calibur because they were sued by a company called Edge Games that also sued EA for Mirror's Edge and Edge Magazine, the legendary gaming magazine and website. They never made games, just sued game companies that used the name Edge. A patent/trademark troll company.
But yeah, EA destroyed them a few years ago when they went after Mirror's Edge. Best thing EA has ever done, right? Edge Games and the guy behind it caused a lot of misery for gaming.

@@ryandemerchant1241 i suppose because it sounds a lot more generic than soul calibur... every person who hears the word "calibur" relates it to "excalibur" the legendary weapon, and immediately thinks "where have i heard that before, it sounds familiar"

That's until you get to Voldo in Mitsurugi's edge master mode. The game isn't analog compatible so it's very difficult to enter a successful critical edge on that little shit

I know I came here a couple years ago, but I should probably mention that maybe it’s because I’m a competitive person, and games are noticeably easier than they were back in those days, but I didn’t die too many times to Cervantes and Soul edge, but if and when I did, what else did I expect? They’re the final bosses of the game.
A tip: watch movies at flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

I've been playing SC5 a lot lately, but I've always loved the original SB/E. I went back and started playing it and am working through edge master mode again. In all these years, this is the first time i've ever seen the cheat characters. thanks for the vid.

13:00 well in all fairness, "Mitsurugi" literally just translates to "Sword" or "Blade" in Japanese, so maybe Tanegashima is really the rifleman's name

13:56 this is just Sophitia with a Health Regen buff, hence why she's somewhat Turquoise. Magenta is when you are poisoned and slowly lose health, and Yellowish-Orange means only Juggles can damage you. There is another (and might I add, annoying as hell) buff that Makes you immune to Everything except Critical Edges, but it doesn't seem to have a Color associated with it.

Dude when I was about 10 years old, I went to ITZ with a few friends and I saw an SCIII arcade cubby, I spent four hours on the damn thing and had to swipe my card for it only three times. A lot of the guys that challenged me and were older than me always thought my dad was doing it because he was hunched over watching me play the game and completely kicking these guys' asses with Yun Seong, my brother was my best match though

Why in the world can you play as the DIVER? I mean, that character shouldn't even have normal animations seeing as they only swim in a cutscene.

(She has a lot of those throughout the series, doesn't she? Before Lizardman, Cassandra, and Pyrrha Omega, there was Random Diver. =p)
I prefer Pyrrha Omega, she seemed more vicious than Sophitia in terms of fighting, probably because of SoulEdge

Hey there MattJ155! Was watching your video here, and I don't know if you are going to do more informative videos, but I wanted to give you abit of editing tips.
You have some great information here! But the pace of it could be quicker. Alot of times you seem to tell us the information, but then let the match play out. I don't think you need to show alot of the character too much and just leaving the gameplay on it's own, as we are mostly here to learn about these secret characters or details.
Also your audio is low at times, noticable when you are talking over when characters are doing their winning animations, and you can hear the announcer also. I would blank out audio from the game itself unless it's needed so it makes it easier to hear you if you intended for us to listen to you than the game itself.
Just some general tips. Again, good information here! Presentation just needs some more work.

Great video. Wow I played as a 6 yr old kid the title on arcade I didnt realise the details about colors and costumes. Thanks man. Hope the series will be great again like soul edge and soul calibur was - everything else is a total disaster - as for characters and the game plot.

I'm pretty sure there is also a glowing green mitsurugi and there might be all the other characters that glow green.
That just means they regen health. Pay attention to Simulacrum Sophitia's Health 13:55
Matt, it seems that Botsu Li-Long is an unusal mystery character whom you and I cannot describe his appearance, and it is said that it also glitches on the "Now Loading..." part of the game, whom he cannot be accessed, correct?

interesting, even though i've played it a long time ago and unlocked all the costumes it never occurred to me to that it could have secret debug stuff.
It would be interesting to grab the debugger version of pcsx and see why does it crashes when loading that secret character. Maybe the data is just missing or they changed something in the engine and that one never got updated and ended up breaking. If the data is still there and it just doesnt work, it could be extracted and displayed on a pc. But if there's been theories and stuff, i doubt no one has thought of that already.

What codes are you using to unlock them on gameshark? Does it unlock all the characters. How did you get manochie and glowing sophistic?
For most characters, I used a character modifier code. For Bogus Cervantes and Glowing Sophitia, I used a code which lets you play as the computer's character.
i owe SOULBLADE for the PS1.

Why does diver exists
she doesn't fit in the medieval setting at all
She's from Souledge's ending. The ending shows Souledge (the sword) being lost in the sea during the time the game was set, and then discovered hundreds of years later, by the diver, in modern times.
Beware the diver!
