  • Hi y'all! I am very excited to share in this video how I use Eyewords to teach sight words to my students. Eyewords is a multi-sensory learning approach that aligns with the Science of Reading research. I am currently using two of their resources. (1) The teaching cards include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic components that help children learn the words in an engaging and effective approach as I demonstrate in the video. (2) Their orthographic mapping set provides a clear guide to teaching students how to segment sounds and learn the sound patterns within each word.
    Each resource is incredibly easy to start implementing and can be integrated with any reading curriculum or phonics program, all you have to do is print! That is as low prep as it gets! 🎉 It is also an affordable resource you will be happy to have purchased when you see the immediate growth and enthusiasm in your students.
    You can use code PREK to get 15% off your purchase!
    NOTE: As of July 23, 2022, I joined a newly introduced affiliate program through Eyewords. I receive a small commission when you make a purchase using my links below.

    Just came across your video. I am a homeschooling mom who has been researching the science of reading. I was looking for best methods to teach sight words and it led me here. I just purchased. Thanks so much for making this video.

      Hello there! Thanks so much for your comment and I'm so happy to hear that! There are many teachers who share best practices aligned with The Science of Reading. I'm not sure if you're on Instagram but these are great accounts to follow: Playdough2Plato, Natalie Lynn Kindergarten, mrslearningbee, SparkedLiteracy, and The Measured Mom.

    Hi there, yes this video was Very Inspiring!! This year I will be setting up my very own classroom solely for the purpose of reading literacy for the below-level students in grades 2 & 3 and maybe 1st grade. Thanks for the discount code I will be ordering. I will subscribe to your channel as I need the guidance that you provide. I'm here in Birmingham, Alabama. Thanks a lot!!

      @@PreferablyPreK Good morning, I spent several hours watching your videos yesterday. I am now subscribed to your channel. I even found out that my school district uses Letrs as well. I found myself downloading some of the free items so that I can get myself prepared for the upcoming school year. I'm so glad that I can rewatch your videos as often as I like. I'm 56 years old and going into my second year of online college to get my BS degree in Early Childhood Development. I've been subbing for 5 years and love working with the younger students. I want to now have my very own grade and be a permanent teacher. How long have you been a teacher? Is Kindergarten the only grade you have taught? Any suggestions, for now, this year I will have my own room solely for reading literacy?

    How many words do you teach at one time to begin?

    • @PreferablyPreK
      @PreferablyPreK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I teach 2 words per week at the beginning, specifically the words "I" "a" and "see" because many printable beginner books have that easy sentence structure and the 3rd word will be something easy they can look at the picture of to guess like I see a dog, I see a bird.

      Eyewords has a free scope and sequence you can follow for phonics instruction. To download it for free, create an account and you can find it in the "Free Products" tab: eyewords.com/collections/our-products

    Silly question here 😅. Sight words are also in Spanish?

    • @PreferablyPreK
      @PreferablyPreK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a silly question 😊 sight words in Spanish are palabras de alta frecuencia. Learning to read in Spanish is much easier since there are only 29 phonemes (sounds) if I'm not mistaken. So once they start blending 2 syllables together I would work on sight word fluency.

      Hi there! Eyewords Learning are the creators of these cards. Learning how to read in Spanish is a different process and generally easier. I don't think they plan on making these cards in Spanish.

      @PreferablyPreK okay thank you. Do you know where I can get something like this in spanish or something similar to it. I appreciate it

    • @PreferablyPreK
      @PreferablyPreK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@elainesilvas5832 I don't think you will find something similar because like I said, reading in Spanish is a different process. Children learn how to blend 2 syllable words like ma-má, pa-to and there are Spanish high frequency word lists that follow those patterns. Children practice those words for fluency. This seller has good resources for palabras de alta frecuencia: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Hola-Bilinguals-Dayana-Garcia?fbclid=PAAabETvb2QXlK88_NPQmzUECvFXa9RU3xOW0dGqaSBkLPctnw_rX29aaeTh4
