    We first met Bob’s family when we shot his sister, Barbara’s, wedding. His speech to her instantly revealed what a great guy Bob is. When I heard that Bob was engaged, I was excited about the chance to create something for this family again. After learning that this would be a destination wedding in Lonesome Valley in Cashiers, NC, I was thrilled. This was going to be one of the most beautiful backdrops to a wedding that I had ever seen.
    All of that to say, every wedding is special, but I feel like this one shows what we love to do more than any other. -Matt

      Here's several ideas for making a great speech:
      Give yourself plenty time.
      Begin writing. Write anything - it's an improvement on than blank space!
      Ask for help from family. You do not have to write it by alone
      Use ready made speech outlines.
      Practise with severl people and ask for tips and advice.
      (I discovered about these and more on Turbo Template Tactic site )

    You guys do an amazing job with the 1DX Mark ii. Question: What profile do you use on the 1dx and how do you color grade it to make it look so cinematic? Thanks. You guys rock!

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Yoo. So this was mostly the 1DC and 6D, right before we added the 1dxII. But on all Canon cameras we use the marvels cine profile with 0 contrast. This film was color graded in davinci resolve, and we have tutorials coming out on the entire process.

  • @Musicaadorecchio
    @Musicaadorecchio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great wonderful job - love it from the beginning to the end! What's the work around for dealing with the 1DXII 4k codec? Do you transcode it into a friendlier codec?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep in mind that most of this wasn't shot 4k. We just upload a 4k file because youtube treats it better. I have a strange workflow for dealing with the MJPEG footage and no one else seems to get it. But here it is :
      We keep three copies of all of our files. So 1.5TB wedding x3 adds up quickly. So after an offload, I use mac finder to search within the offload folder for anything with the mjpeg codec. I copy those files to one single drive called MJPEG. Then, I take those files and put them into their own FCPX event called 4k transcodes. From there I use FCPXPORTER to export each file as a 4k Prores proxy. This is different than letting fcpx do optimized media at proxy, which is only 1080p. FCPX exports faster than realtime. A .23 second clip transcodes in .15 on my iMac 5k. I let that run on a Sunday after the wedding, takes about 3 hours. From my tests, Apple Compressor would have taken at least 12 hours or more.
      Then I take those files and drop them into that finder search for MJPEG files, which replaces the MJPEG fils with 4k prores proxy (150mb/s) - From there I clone the drive as normal and then swap that cloned backup with our offsite drive and clone again. When it's time to export the highlights I'll reconnect to that single MJPEG drive for slightly better quality. But If something happened to that drive, the 4k Prores files still look great, I can't distinguish them from the MJPEG 99% of the time.
      That workflow is mostly automated, and it took me as much time to type it as it does to actually do it. A 1.5 TB wedding comes down to a more manageable 350GB or so, and I find it better than creating multiple backups of MJPEG files. I've also considered swapping the Prores Proxy transcode for 4k h264. -Matt

      Thanks so much Matt! It sounds kind of complicated , especially for those like me who use premiere and not final cut. But you have been really helpful, I appreciate it so much that you spent so much time to explain me the whole process !! Thanks again !!

    This is amazing always inspired !!!! just a quick one Matt how do you process your audio from the speeches in post, have quite a similar setup just that we use a zoom H5 and the audio is crisp but in post what kind of filtering can I use to get such rich and crisp vocals .

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. I process the speech track with compression and EQ. I have a preset that works perfectly for most speeches and only requires one adjustment to match to the recording level. Pretty much all of our audio is run through this. I'll make it available soon. If you're on FCPX and you want to test it out for me email - matt at thefilmpoets.com -

    Great work as usual! Quick question, what types of final films do you deliver to your clients? Do you only offer the short cinematic films such as these, or do you offer full ceremony edits as well?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. We always deliver a full ceremony edit as well as full speeches. From there we offer a Highlights film, a Feature film (this) and a 20 min non-creative film that we call a Wedding Day Film. Most people get the combination of a Highlights and Wedding Day film.

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The receiver has two outputs, a 1/4" and an xlr. They sound identical, one goes to a roland r26 recorder and the other to the bands sound board. Then I sync I sync in post. It's a great mic, but best to keep a line of site between mic an receiver. I've had an occasional dropout when they are blocked. -Matt

    one more question Matt - sorry but I can't keep from bombarding you with questions, I like your videos so much :) which picture profile do you use on the 1DXII?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marvel Cine has been the PP I've used forever. I use -4 contrast, but the default is -3. I switched to -4 because the 6D has a bit more contrast than the 5dII. I need to re-evaulate that for the 1dxII. It's basically Prolost with a bump in the shadows, and it's based on the neutral profile.

    Awesome video! Where do set up to get all of the shots of the ceremony? Do you move around a lot or do you have static cameras set up?

    • @thefilmpoets
      @thefilmpoets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bruce. We only used three cameras for most of the ceremony. The Ronin was used as a 4th camera for a couple of b-roll shots and then for the exit. Our main setup is one center camera with two cameras off to each side, close the eye-line of the couple when they face one another.
