Harry never tells anyone who his songs are about and has even said " I've never dated anyone publicly just because I've been photographed with people doesn't mean im dating them publicly..He said he's never benefited by sharing his personal life. So he keeps the two very seperate..so it's always left open to interpretation

After reading in a magazine interview that Harry swims daily, the watery metaphor of the video strikes me in two directions (sorry for that!). Drowning in sorrow, sure, but he's also in his element. Somehow, that dichotomy seems to fit Harry well. He's always moving forward in the fluid art he's inventing, and reflects his personal experiences only "slant", in undercurrents of lyric. And he never stops evolving.

When I listened to this song for the first time (also when I discovered Harry), I was in a very bad place. I won't say it helped me, but it gave me something to hold on to. I felt understood? I was very lonely and he made me a little less alone. So yeah, forever thankful for that, let me shut up before I start crying.

There is a post on twitter from the ppl that created and worked on the video, it shows and discusses how they did it from making the room, painting the piano and constructing it all. Who his songs are about:
On every album, he adds a drawing of something that's relevant to it, and usually it means most songs are about it.
First album: the drawing was a Robin bird, Robin was the name of his stepfather who passed away
*MMITH - personal interpretation is that it's about his stepfather who passed away from cancer in 2017 (the song was written when he was really sick). "Give me some morphine" (morphine is commonly used to treat cancer patients when they're agonizing) "is there any more to do?" "maybe you'll come around" the song takes a whole new meaning when you see it through that lens.
*SOTT - he said it was about a mother who's dying in childbirth and telling her son "go forth and conquer", I personally think it's partially inspired by his friend who committed suicide while he was working on this album, his name was Matt Irwin.
*Carolina - it's about a girl called Townes he briefly dated in 2017. He was asked if the subject of the song knew he'd written it and he replied "no, but her name's in it, so I'm a bit f*cked on that front". "Her grandma told her, Townes, better swim before you drown". Fans found her (she was friends with one of his friends). Turns out they went on a couple of dates and it didn't work out, this according to her dad who spoke on the radio.
*Two Ghosts - written in 2014 with the old 1D team, the song seems to be a word for word reply to Style by Taylor Swift. "I got that red lip classic thing that you like" and "you got that long hair, slicked back, white T-shirt" (lyrics from Style). "Same lips red, same eyes blue, same white shirt, couple more tattoos, but it's not you and it's not me" (lyrics from Two Ghosts). Harry and Taylor dated on and off between 2012 and 2014.
*Sweet Creature - Harry is on the record saying this song isn't about romantic love, it's his mom's favorite song, and it hints at it being about growing up with someone, so people assume it's about his sister, Gemma
*Only Angel - We don't know exactly who it's about, but lyrics would suggest it's about Kendall Jenner. They briefly dated in 2013/2014 but remained friends afterwards and allegedly had an on and off friends with benefits situation until they both settled down with their respective partners
*Kiwi - We don't know who it's about, but lyrics (and title) would suggest it's about Georgia Fowler, a woman he briefly dated in 2015 (the album was written in 2016). They were at a hotel in London and she snapchatted videos of him, innocuous in content but that gave away that they were hooking up. Harry was allegedly furious and she was ousted from his group of friends. The lyrics are about a gold digger who wants to clumb the fame ladder. They're probably greatly exaggerated (Harry said they were mostly a joke) but the inspiration was taken from that. Georgia Fowler is from New Zealand, hence Kiwi.
*Ever Since New York - This one we have confirmation, it's about his stepdad. Finding out he had cancer back in 2014. Really sad but beautiful.
*Woman, and From The Dining Table - Both seem to be about a relationship that's over and him being jealous of that person and not being over her. It's unclear if it's the same relationship or two separate ones and it's unclear who this person/these people are. He's very cagey about his personal life.
Second album: the drawing was a pineapple and it was a replica of the tattoo his ex girlfriend, Camille Rowe had on her ass lol
*Golden - Believed to be about Camille, about the moment he realized their relationship had become rocky.
*Watermelon Sugar - Confirmed to be about Camille. Harry said he wrote it in September 2017 (he and Camille started dating in June 2017 and broke up at some point in the spring of 2018). The song says "baby, you're the end of June" (aka when they started dating), plus Camille had said in an interview that her favorite book was "In Watermelon Sugar" by Richard Brautigan. Harry claimed that seeing that book in the studio inspired him to write the song. Harry also confirmed it's about performing cunnilingus on a woman, so take from that what you will.
*Adore You - A lot of people think this song is also about Camille, but I'm personally not so sure, because he wrote it in May 2019, they'd been broken up for over a year at this point and she had a very serious boyfriend already. Could be someone he dated in between
*Lights Up - Believed to be about coming to terms with his sexuality. The song was released on National Coming Out Day and the video features Harry in a makeshift orgy with men and women, reflecting on himself in the mirror, etc.
*Cherry - Confirmed to be about Camille. The song features her voice at the end, speaking in French (she's French American). The lyrics are also incredibly unsubtle. "Does he take you walking through his parents' gallery?" Camille left Harry for Theo Niarchos, heir to Stavros Niarchos. His family owns a ton of galleries around the world. This is Harry being petty and flaunting the fact that he's self-made, while his ex's current man is a nepotism baby. Harry said the voice note at the end was his ex girlfriend and the liner notes mention that the audio was used with Camille Rowe's permission. He also said he was recording himself playing guitar and happened to catch her on the phone, when he was writing the song he noticed it was in the same key so he asked her if he could include it and she said yes.
*Falling - Confirmed to be about Camille. The Beachwood Cafe (mentioned in the lyrics) is her favorite coffee spot and a place she and Harry used to frequent a lot, you can see the Eiffel tower in the window in the video (added via CGI, the video was filmed in LA lol), plus Harry brought back a ring he'd taken from her while they were dating (the red one on his right pinky) for this shoot. Other lyrics also suggest to it being about her, but I'll get to that later.
*To Be So Lonely - Confirmed to be about Camille because of its lyrical connections to Cherry and Falling, but more on that later.
*She - Apparently about his struggle with expressing his feminine side and how society sees men and masculinity. Written while on mushrooms and high off his mind.
*Sunflower, Vol. 6 - Believed to be about Camille, about getting over their relationship and seeing the positive sides of it ending (being able to use it as inspiration to write beautiful melodies). "Your flowers just died, plant new seeds in the melody" this metaphor works perfectly well with Sunflowers, since they're flowers who have to die in order to give out seeds. Something beautiful dies so hundreds of beautiful things can live. And the seeds are being planted in the melody, aka his music. One of his most beautiful songs.
*Canyon Moon - Confirmed to be about Camille. They both lived in Laurel Canyon in LA (different houses tho) and his friend Kid Harpoon (also collaborator on his music) and his wife Jenny became really close to Camille. The song seems to be about Harry being in Europe for his first tour and talking to Camille on the phone and missing her, placed in the timeline still during the honeymoon stage (fall 2017).
*Treat People With Kindness - This is his motto and he just made it into a song!
*Fine Line - Believed to be about Camille, part of the group of songs that tell a story in different stages, and I'll get into that now.
The songs on this album (the ones about Camille) tell a story in a sort of timeline, sense. From honeymoon stage of a relationship, to hard times, to breakup, to getting over it.
The sequence of songs seems to be Watermelon Sugar -> Canyon Moon -> Golden -> Fine Line -> Falling -> To Be So Lonely -> Cherry -> Sunflower
As I said, Watermelon Sugar and Canyon Moon are about the honeymoon stage, the sex, the thrill, then the missing, the loving. Things turn sour with Golden, when he realizes he's in a lot deeper than she is. He wears his heart on his sleeve but she's not ready for all that, not with him at least. "I know that you're scared because hearts get broken" and "I can feel you take control of who I am and all I've ever known" and "I know that you're scared because I'm so open" plus the heartwrenching "I don't wanna be alone when it ends." It's like he knew it was doomed to fail and was dreading it.
Then it did end, the lyrics of his songs would suggest that she ended it because she just wasn't as in and as deep as he was. It matches reality because Camille had a boyfriend she dated for two years and talked about marrying just weeks before she and Harry got together (musician Devendra Banhart). Seems like Harry was a rebound. As soon as she and Harry ended things, she dated around, and very fast got together with her current boyfriend Theo, who she's been dating for over four years now. But while she didn't seem to be as invested in the relationship as he was, this was the longest Harry had dated anyone (a combination of being young, he was 23 when they met, and his line of work making it hard for him to find solid ground). So Camille ends things while he's on tour in Europe in the spring of 2018. She was seen dating Alexander Skarsgard and she and Harry weren't seen together for months.
Then one day she showed up to his show in Madison Square Garden. Seems like she had a shoot in NYC the next day (she's a model), so she just popped into his show. Both of them went out with friends separately that night, so things point out to them definitely being broken up by then. Harry got really drunk that night and he had a show in DC the next day. Harry said in an interview recently than in his solo career he got drunk before a show only once and he hated that show, everyone instantly knew it was his DC show he was talking about.
Anyway, the songs on Fine Line all tell a story about him getting drunk, doing something regrettable, and lamenting it in the frame of this breakup, but Harry has said that he only got drunk once on this tour, and during this tour is when the breakup happened.
In Fine Line he says "we'll get the drinks in, so I'll get to thinking of her" in Falling he says "there's no one to blame but the drink in my wandering hands" and in To Be So Lonely he says "don't blame the drunk caller, wasn't ready for it all". So he goes out with friends, he gets drunk, calls her, they meet up and sleep together. But she's still over him and the relationship and tells him to leave "it's hard for me to go home and be so lonely" (To Be So Lonely) and "I'm in my bed and you're not here" (Falling). He knows she's hooking up with other people and has no grounds to be jealous "do you think it's easy, being of the jealous kind?" (To Be So Lonely). He tells her to stop calling him baby, and that they can't actually stay friends, because she'll "win" and they'll hook up. "I miss the shape of your lips, you'll win, it's just a trick, and this is it, so I'm sorry" (To Be So Lonely). They probably had an argument after sex and before she left "forget what I said, it's not what I meant" (Falling) and "I'm just an arrogant son of a bitch who can't admit when he's sorry" (To Be So Lonely). The songs compliment each other really well and seem to tell the same story but at different points in time. In Falling he seems to be more vulnerable and apologetic, while in TBSL he seems to be like "actually you know what? No, f*ck you."
Cherry is the aftermath, they're not talking anymore ("we're not talking lately"). He's still hung up and heartbroken, she found a new man. In real life, Camille and Harry weren't in the same place at the same time once after that day in NYC until his last show in LA. She popped up with a few of her friends (who are now his friends), but she wasn't in the friends and family section (his ex Kendall was there, to make matters more obvious). She left right after the show ended instead of going backstage, where they had an afterparty. Seems like the relationship was well and truly over, she was dating Theo formally at this point. The media found out they'd been broken up and it became official (as official as it can be when it's not something either protagonist really talks about). And as I said, Sunflower seems to be about him moving on and realizing he can make beautiful music out of all this heartbreak.
Fine Line is a terribly sad album, which makes Harry's House (his third album) all the more chipper!
Third album: the drawing is a lemon, seemingly signifying Italy. He and his girlfriend Olivia seem to have found a haven in Italy together, so there's that
A lot of people will maintain that this album was fully written before he and Olivia met but they're factually wrong. This is a timeline taken from his own interviews (particularly the one with Zane Lowe) and the liner notes on his album.
Chunk 1: Los Angeles, US - Shangri La. This was around May 2020 (he said he didn't do anything the first few weeks of the pandemic).
Songs worked in this studio: Late Night Talking, Grapejuice, Daylight, Matilda.
Chunk 2: Bath, England - Real World Studios. This was around August 2020.
Songs worked in this studio: Music For A Sushi Restaurant, Keep Driving.
Chunk 3: Los Angeles, US - Angelic and Solag Studios. This was around November 2020.
Songs worked in this studio: Music For A Sushi Restaurant, Late Night Talking, As It Was, Daylight, Matilda, Cinema, Daydreaming, Keep Driving, Satellite, Love Of My Life.
Chunk 4: Oxford, England - Rob Stringer's (CEO of Sony Entertainment) living room. This was around April 2021.
Songs worked in this studio: Grapejuice, As It Was, Cinema, Love Of My Life.
(Additionally, Daydreaming and Satellite have work done in The Cave, which is Tyler Johnson's studio in Nashville. Since Harry didn't visit Nashville during the writing of this album, it's likely those are the contributions Tyler made for the album by himself)
After this, he worked on all the songs and mastered the album in Henson Studios in LA on August 2021.
Harry and Olivia started dating around October 2020, but people have worked out that they were probably talking prior to that (Harry was originally cast in her movie, Don't Worry Darling, in 2019, but then he had to step down because of his tour. He was called back in when his replacement, Shia LaBeouf, was fired). Potentially, all the songs could be about her since all of them were worked on in August 2021, but obviously nobody believes that lol.
*Music For A Sushi Restaurant - About Olivia. The song starts with "Green eyes, fried rice", Olivia Wilde famously has very very green eyes. There's also lyrical connections to the song Cinema.
*Late Night Talking - About Olivia. Olivia is a director and they met thanks to the movie they did together. "You stub your toe or break your camera." There's also the connection "from Hollywood to Bishopsgate" (LA to London, their respective places of residence). The theme is that he was infatuated with her before they started dating, the lyrics of the song hint at conversations on the phone, which fits specifically with the song being written while he was in England and she was in LA during the pandemic with "Late Night Talking" with the time zone differences, there was surely a lot of late night talking on his end.
*Grapejuice - About Olivia. Guessing the work done on this song in LA was strictly about music, since the lyrics talk about London and Hamsptead Heath (where Harry lives in London), the other studio he worked in is in England. Olivia moved into Harry's London house in February 2021 and even posted pics from his house (not knowing the fanbase would instantly know the pics were from his house). The song seems to be about enoying an afternoon wine with your lover in this pretty London neighborhood.
*As It Was - Seems to be about Harry's struggles with loneliness and the pandemic and his relationships. There's a reference to Olivia ("leave America, two kids follow her"). Olivia is American and she has two kids, they all live with Harry in his house when they're in London and apparently Olivia wants to permanently settle down there with him (according to an affidavit signed by Olivia's ex), but regardless of this reference, the song doesn't seem to be ABOUT her, she's just part of it.
*Daylight - Kind of a mystery. It's hard to believe that the song is about Olivia since Harry mentions the subject of it as doing cocaine in his kitchen, but hey, who knows? Maybe she does kick the habit sometimes or maybe it's a metaphor. It's a very trippy song nonetheless, and it's hard to pin down what it's really about. The chorus is kind of romantic and considering he was working on it while he and Olivia were living together in LA in late 2020, I'm inclined to believe it's just metaphorical and about her
*Little Freak - Written in Japan in January 2019, it seems to be about someone who helped him overcome his feelings for his ex, Camille, but that he didn't formally date or really get intimate with (he says "you never saw my birthmark"). So someone he has very fond memories of because they helped him during a very dark time, but that isn't necessarily someone he had a relationship with.
*Matilda - Harry said it's about a concrete friend who had family issues. Not speculating on who this friend is, out of respect
*Cinema - The most blatant song about Olivia on the album. He brings the pop (popstar) to her cinema (director). It seems to be about the time she finally gave in and they became a couple (there's a song that's blatantly about right before this moment). "You all the time, in doses at night." They were working together and then they would go home together as well at night, basically.
*Daydreaming - Harry said the first thing that they came up with on this song was when Tyler showed him a riff while Harry was driving back from Palms Spring. Obviouslt he didn't drive back from Palms Spring during the height of the pandemic, but Don't Worry Darling had plenty of shoots in Palm Springs around November 2020. The song is about missing someone when you have to be apart from them. Harry wasn't on every shoot in Palm Springs because his character wasn't in the desert shoots, so it's likely that he was being dramatic and this song is about spending a few nights away from his new girlfriend.
*Keep Driving - Seems to be about keeping it going in a relationship even through hard times. I would guess this is about Olivia as well cause timing wise nothing else makes sense.
*Satellite - This is the song that seems to be about him yearning for Olivia, right before they got together. "You got a new life" (she left her ex of 8 years in March 2020) "I can see you're lonely down there, don't you know that I am right here?" It also mentions "we share the last line" which a lot of people think is about cocaine, but imo is about going over the lines on the script. This and Late Night Talking both seem to share the feeling of wanting to be there for the other person and making them happy, even before there's a solid relationship. Timing wise, this song was definitely written while they were together, according to the liner notes.
*Boyfriends - Well, you saw what the inspiration was. Sh*tty boyfriends he saw over the years, including himself. He said this song was written for his previous album, Fine Line.
*Love Of My Life - He said this song is about England, which makes sense. He talks about how his friends know all the "creases and ends" of England while he doesn't (because of how much time he spent traveling the world). The kicker of this song seems to be that England WAS the love of his life. He dreamed about settling down there and all that, but now he's not sure where he'll end up, probably because he's in a very serious relationship with an American woman who has American children. And he's okay with that outcome, because the love of his life is now her.

@@ANNEMARIE.K236 The word were does not have to be past tense, "you were on my mind this morning" "when I was away you were always on my mind" "you were always the artistic one in the family" when Harry played London he said it would always be his home as it at taught him so much, I presume he means because it is very cosmopolitan, taught him to see everyone for who they are, Harry comes from a very small quite village originally, where his mix of people would be very limited. that's just the way I interpretate Love Of My Life.

Harry's said in an interview (with zane lowe) that the majority of this album is abt his ex camille rowe (he even added a voice recording of hers in one of the songs, cherry). He also said that he wrote this song when he was at a low point in life and started feeling like he was becoming someone he didn't want to be which explains the line "what if i'm someone i don't want around" which could be referring to him cheating which is what alot of people took the line "there's no one to blame but the drink in my wandering hands" as.
Fun fact: harry wrote this song in 20mins fresh out the shower while still in his towel lol

He says that wmyb is a very important song because he fell in love to that song. In the June 2011 bts mv for wmyb Louis teased Harry about falling in love. Harry sings wmyb at every concert because it does mean so much to him. You would think if he has since had other relationships since 2011 that he wouldn’t keep singing it or telling us how he fell in love to it. He filmed the mv for WS on the same beach as the mv for wmyb and says that the meaning behind WS is about “that initial euphoria when you start seeing someone, start sleeping with someone or just like being around someone and have that kind of excitement, you know when you like someone “ He wrote Two Ghosts, in 2013/14 with the line “tongue tied like we’ve never known, telling those stories we’ve already told, cause we don’t say what we really mean” He used Two Ghosts as an intro to Falling to tie the two songs together. I am not even going to mention his name because it is absolutely ridiculous that any fan still thinks this despite Harrys family and friends saying it isnt true.
