For people who keep commenting on the name Easy Taiwanese Mandarin: yes, there is such a thing called Taiwanese Mandarin! Yes, it is the same language spoken in the mainland, but they have a different accent, use some different words, and have a different script. It is no different from saying American English or British English or Australian English. It is all English, but with a different accent and some different words unique to those countries.
Really? Then, I'm gonna try to learn the Taiwanese Mandarin first!!

I am from mainland and I really think some questions are too awkward and embarrassed to ask...'What is the color of Taiwan' is really strange, while 'will both sides be united' is too sharp. Should ask some easy questions instead of those sensitive ones

In the very first sentence she said 'xi men Ting' its called xi men Ding. and she said Venti instead of wen ti.. i have no idea where she is from in china but as a learner it seems not helpful even if the pronunciation is clearer.
@@barrelrolldog Pronouncing v instead of w is quite a common free variation in the north(like Beijing), as for the "Ting" I suppose she doesn't know the correct pronounciation rather than having an accent, it's understandable because 町 is rarely used in Mandarin so she might has read the charactor wrong. Her parole is pretty standard, I'm speaking as a native Mandarin speaker.

学简体字看繁体也看得懂。不过这里问的问题好像有引导的感觉，不是很喜欢。大陆人因为是共产党领导，所以大多数人都很喜欢互相强迫，不管是家里，学校还是工作单位，很讨厌那种感觉。大陆人真的很不自由，从内心里。无法接受不同的东西。这太可悲了。我自己是大陆人，但是旅行开拓眼界，学习多种语言，内心就变得比以前宽阔一些，就没有那么多禁忌了。我不是那种说只会贬低中国的人，我爱中国所有的古文化，但是共产党领导的方向和古文化都是相冲突的，比如：己所不欲勿施于人，还有俗语说的强扭的瓜不甜，心急吃不了热豆腐（大跃进和这种训导相悖）等等，还有很多，感觉是互相比来比去又逼来逼去。中国人现在在自己和自己矛盾着。不知道哪天才能冲破内心的障碍获得自由。台湾人感觉就是有点小气。大体上性格和大陆人很类似，感觉也挺喜欢攀比和强迫的，换了一种政体也一样，讨论个问题像吵架一样，用很强迫性的话去挤兑不同观点的人。这真的是全体中文文化的本质问题，应该是封建社会的长期思想形成的结果。网络才发明没有很长时间，这样网络上互相交流，地球上的各个种族和国家之间的隔阂就会慢慢消融，猜想一百年以后会更好的。
把问题提出来让它公开化地讨论，这样非常好。不过如果能在大陆地区进行就更好了。提一些比较本质的问题，像Easy German频道那样，问一问自由的定义。只有中国文化自由了，中国人才能获得自由，思想自由，政治自由，统一才有可能。
相不相信灵魂的存在，这个问题很奇怪，因为灵魂是一个事实存在，相信不相信它都存在。灵魂就是生命啊。不思考的人，没有独处能力的人，看不见自己，也看不见别人的灵魂而已。

Taiwanese people seem to be very relaxed. In China meanwhile everyone rushes to the weapons as soon as you hint at Taiwan being a different country. Let´s hope Taiwan will remain independent or China will adopt the system of Taiwan.

A lot were addressing the politics between the two countries. A lot of the TW people who answered were ambivalent like in the color of your country question. The TW young people didn't really care saying black and grey. China needs to stop forcing HK and TW to join them.

Hong Kong and Macau always belongs to China. It is a lease (Unequal treaty of Nanking) from UK after Opium War. Taiwan broke up because of Civil War, no peace treaty is signed, so Taiwan is still China.

The political questions seemed baiting. It's widely known that Taiwan and China have a tenuous relationship, and it's not exactly polite to ask people about how they feel about the One China Policy and reunification.
@@henriashurst-pitkanen8735 That's exactly what they claim though, that they are successors of the Qing Dynasty and the ROC (even though the ROC still exists).
And to be fair, the ROC once controlled both Taiwan _and_ most of the Mainland, so in that way it still makes sense to say "reunification".

This is Taiwanese Mandarin which uses traditional Chinese characters. China uses simplified characters.
And simplified Mandrin is easy to learn

Technically, Taiwan is a province of the REPUBLIC OF CHINA while Mainland China is claimed by the REPUBLIC OF CHINA. Mainland China is ruled by the PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA and it claims Taiwan as one of their provinces.

De facto speaking, yes, although there are certain complications to this question which are understandable. But basically speaking it is in every way a country, just not internationally recognised
If you ask any Taiwanese person, the majority will say that it is, especially the younger generations.

Not really. Remember, they're only more difficult if you intend on writing them by hand. Considering that most communications are written via pinyin or by zhuyin (Chinese and Taiwanese writing systems) all you need to do is recognise the character to be able to write later.
Also, the vast majority of stuff written in Simplified is post-censorship, totally-safe and often meaningless drivel due to China's North Korean-esque censorship system. Traditional books, and by extension Taiwan, has no censorship system, so translations of English books are well written (because Taiwanese are often better writers due to the lack of political indoctrination since birth) and Taiwan's own literature scene is thriving, compared to the PRC's dearth of anything other than self-help books on how to get rich.
+Bakarrik Azeri not really,most so called simplified characters are actually the different version of traditional characters. they are traditional,too. and some character's meaning changed totally from what it origined, the meaning may have nothing in common with how the character looks like. and taiwan gets their censorship system,too. every gov in the world have their censorship system.
The Simplifed Chinese (简体字) is originally designed to help increase literacy, esp among the working class and peasants masses.
However, it is definitely not a friendly platform for Chinese history, literature, linguistics and Chinese culture as a whole.
Any serious Chinese language learners shouldn't waste their life's precious time on Simplified Chinese, imho.
If you want to learn, learn from the Taiwanese.
Taiwanese's Chinese culture is by far more authentically Chinese than Mainland China (no thanks to Communism, Great Leap Forward and the final nail in coffin -> Cultural Revolution)
Taiwan, who is so adamant on not being labelled as "China", is more China than Mainland China.

I chose traditional Chinese because it looks amazing and has so many things that make it stick out more to me when reading and writing I find it much easier. 我很喜歡繁體中文阿.
After I learned Chinese, I studied Korean and was so glad I had learned the traditional characters.

@@Rage9603 I've studied Korean for many years and speak reasonably well now. One thing I would warn is that Korean is a difficult language (the honorifics for example are insane), more so than Chinese and Japanese (both of which I've studied), and definitely more so than Russian. Though I think language learning all depends on motivation. Korean is a wonderful country and culture and so there are many rewards to making the effort.

I'm a Chinese from Mainland I think Taiwan and Mainland are now separate enough to be different countries same with Hong Kong too. China is already big enough as it is anyway we don't need to add on too many territories (just personal opinion).
What I want to hear is that if the taiwanese likes to join the mainland china or they want to get separated and establish themselves as different citizen from mainland chinese...
most people in Taiwan do not want to become part of China. I think some of the interviewers' answer are with some sarcasm, for the host from China ask lots of sensitive issues. however, there are still minority of people in Taiwan hope to be part of China. After all, people would have various opinions in a free society

It's really hard to explain. Going to Taipei from Shanghai, it still feels Chinese but at the same time it kind of feels like America or Japan.. Taiwan has its own history and it's reflected in society. I guess similar to US/Canada.

2:28 The interviewed man refers to PRC as 大陆 "Mainland" (meaning he thinks Taiwan is a part of China) but English subtitles translate it as "China", making him look as he believes Taiwan is not China.
That's the normal way to refer to Mainland China in Mandarin. The majority of Taiwanese see Taiwan as independent, yet many also use that word. Such a correlation doesn't exist.
