This is kinda his eulogy to Camu Tao, who died of cancer. It's unofficially the thing that split the whole friend group in that pocket of the hip hop scene.
Also it's placement on the album leads right into Shrunk. A song about going to therapy. So I think he's talking to himself in the parking lot of the psychiatrist's. So when he says "get out the car" he's saying "time to go unpack this shit again."

Ok got ya, good insight! I have actually reacted to shrunk and kirby as well, just need to edit them but haven't been able to spend the time to figure everything out yet

@@RegularZig Can't wait to see those reactions! Slug is pretty great, but for me, no one compares to Aes! You should check out "Rings" and " None Shall Pass" at some point also.
      Love the Rhymesayers shirt!

Great song to start the Aes trilogy on, one of his most straightforward songs. You can tell he really wanted to get the message across clear and holds back on some of the crazy wordplay on his other songs. It also describes his mental state that affects a lot of his other songs. Just wanted to add the line "Once upon a time he was so much more than a punchline for his own potshots". Other people aren't putting him down or taking shots at him, he does it all to himself. Aes has been pretty open about how he has a lot of problems with self-esteem, so much so that in an AMA on reddit he said he doesn't consider himself a successful rapper, but rather a failed visual artist (his first dream).

Heard that, i mean it sounds like he's been pretty hard on himself. From what I've seen the visuals on all 3 videos were absolutely of grade A quality. I suppose to a certain extent we kind of expect high quality in videos but tbh I didn't even realize he was the creative mind behind the videos which will make me concentrate on that aspect more in the future.

Missing one word w Aesop, can derail you from the whole message. It’s impossible to break him down the 1’st time. Did a great job tho. Seeing more ppl react to this dude. Loving that. This guy needs to be heard. Great reaction.

Don't feel bad that you can't unpack Aesop on first listen, doubt many can. I have listened to him for the best part of a decade and still takes me many listens.
What he does with his obtuse wordplay is make you think and ponder and that is rare in music. :)

the track Rogue Wave is fire too!

Edit: Get Out of the Car is a reflection on a paralyzing sense of loss and the 8 years of grieving that ensued. Aes frankly explains the emotional plight he found himself in. The song ends with a reflexive call to action to move on from paralysis.
Additionally, the song that immediately follows is “Shrunk”, in which Aes has an appointment with a therapist-as if he had listened to his own words at the end of this tune (“Get out the car, Aes”) and stepped into the office.

Hell yeah, Broke it down better than I did first listen. After months of listening I still find more meanings of his metaphors.
Like "suicide king with a knife in his crown" I think is King of Hearts in a deck of cards.

Oh wow, ya that makes sense. Damn. He speaks in riddles. It's complex.

@@RegularZig Aesop rock himself said in an interview his lyrics are "metaphor drenched in metaphor". Seriously great artist tho when you get past the complexity
