Easy to say, hard to do: superb control of the voice, classical technique and wonderful pitch. Perry Como is the best of every crooners. He will live forever in our hearts.

This is a very good song for people like me who am an old man now. As the song says we have no time to wait to do something we should do, as we do not know how much time we have left. Perry Como did a very good version of this song and it is a song worth to hear and enjoy.

Why would anyone give a thumbs down to any song that Perry Como sang?

He’s the best, it’s so easy for him, because he has a natural voice.

Love Mr. C but it's just inconsiderate thing to say that it's "easy for him because his natural voice". The thing about Perry is that he makes it sound so easy! Thats the concept of Perry Como among with sounding as honest as one can and singing purely without special tricks. Nobody does that better. Back in the days many said something like you not realizing the amount of work he put out practicing! It's not easy sounding like it's easy! He's a rare talent for sure but he also was really hard working. Nothing comes easy. May you rest in peace Mr. C.

Consider the Italian singers that came out that period of the 40's and 50's: Frank the Chairman Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Vic Damone toward the end. Vic sang for Perry in an elevator and Perry encouraged him to pursue a singing career. I may have missed some and they were in no particular order, but will there probably never be a group like them again!

And maybe starting a little later, Bobby Darin, Steve Lawrence, Mel Torme, Matt Monro, Jack Jones, and in different genres Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis, Gary Puckett, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, etc.

I love a lot of singers from the fifties, what a great era it was ,but have to say Perry was the best of the lot his smooth baritone voice great diction ect and when he hits those high notes with ease what more can I say.

This is actually a rather insightful comment. I have always dismissed Perry Como as a singer, as being a relative lightweight. But I liked this performance.

This was a song that was often recorded by top vocalists of the period, but not associated much with Perry Como. However, I would have to say this is possibly the best recording of it I have heard. This is as good as a studio recording.

@Imani M My top 3 from the period are Perry Como, Bing Crosby, and Andy Williams, gennerally in that order. They were all good people in real life; Frank doesn't quite make the cut because of a lot of questionable behavior, in spite of being undeniably a great artist. However, I think Perry had such a radiant personality and such a great heart that he has generally been a favorite for most of the time I've known of him; it shows in his work as well. Frank's interpretations seem to be driven by pain, a lot of it self-induced, from his choices. Perry's interpretations are straight up love; not necessarily the sappy kind, but the "I will give my life for you if that's what it takes" kind of love. What a man. I can't think of any modern entertainer who fits that description. There are modern entertainers with skill, but his heart is unparalleled. May he rest in peace.

@@edifyguy I had been vaguely following Perry Como for a couple of decades until his death in 2001. My impression of him was that he was a man very happy and satisfied in life He was content to have what he did have and didn't aspire to have much more than he already had, considering himself very lucky. He had an immense talent but didn't flaunt it and tended to minimize his accomplishments. One of the few to combine those traits.

@@edifyguy Actually, Bing Crosby was probably worse than Sinatra as far as what you're characterizing. Find an article in the New York Post from December 1999 titled: BING CROSBY’S SECRET LIFE - FBI DOCUMENTS REVEAL SINGER’S TIES TO MOB for an overview. He was a serial gambler, hung out with mobsters, had someone beat up following an argument, abandoned his first wife when she was dying of ovarian cancer, beat and tormented his children, etc.

I remember being in the kitchen with my mother, listening to this very song, in the late 1959. Perry Como was certainly her favourite crooner of the time. A wonderful voice, it will go on to be heard for many more decades, or as long as people appreciate these wonderful, now classic songs. Thank you for putting it onto TH-cam!

No joke, Durante’s version is the only one to rival Perry’s.
Youth’s easy passions grown into a sadder love.
“The thoughts that lie too deep for tears”.
    They both nail it.

Don't like this version much. He makes it too pretty and he doesn't quite have the age yet at this time to give the song the gravitas it needs.
