Holy shit, I know this video is 10 years old, but I just started playing guitar 10 months ago... While studying the major scale, I had this 'AHA' moment too, but I didn’t do much with it. Now I found your video. Thank you for putting in the work to explain and organize this logic we discovered :)
Thank you so much! This is Gold. Just one thing I want to add to this is that at 6:38 the numbers follow with its corresponded lines 7, 3, 6, 2, 5, 1, 4 is actually the circle of fifth.
Have to echo literally every comment. This system peeled the scales off my eyes! Now I can see it and can't ever unsee. Its so easy to visualize the pattern and apply it
This might have been the most useful 17 minutes I've ever spent, as far as playing guitar goes. This is game-changing. Just a genius method. I don't know who you are but I hope you're making a lot of money teaching music theory to people, because dude, you're really freakin' good. Thanks for this.
this is fantastic, glad I stumbled across it. well done. Only a few months in but this is the whole video that has made sense about the scales and modes.
Coincidently I made a grid like this 2 weeks ago to see the bigger picture on my 5 string bass and guitar and the repeat pattern was super interesting. I did it in excell. This Na system is good stuff! Thank you for these videos.
brilliant, thanks a lot for all your videos! You are one of those small time heroes, you have just made everything a whole LOT easier in my musical life.
NOW I have some realistic hope of learning the fretboard. I seem to be pretty bad at memorizing stuff, but this really looks like a great system. Thank you greatly for this video!
This video was too hard to find! I've been trying to figure out the pattern of the different scale shapes because I knew there was something, but couldn't quite find the rules. THANK YOU.
a different way of looking at this is to explain it s a never ending pattern for a major scale starting on the second whole whole and continuing through the entire pattern /if you get stuck on one string the half whole and whole half lines are a fret apart and the whole whole lines back to back /the string transference at the 3rd and 2nd string is as in all cases one fret up when going higher and one fret down when going lower/ I find it easier to forget about the numbers and just think that the mixolydian starts on the first of the whole whole lines or dorian starts on the second whole half line i also choose to use 135 -124-134-in place of whole half terminology a major scale starting from the root would be 135-135-124-124-134-134-135-135-135-124-124-134-134-.......also u can think of these 3 note lines as major135 diminished 124 and minor 134 which also helps u to remember which mode is a major or minor also try this pattern from the first 4 of the 134 with your pinky and play the pattern backwards ted greene did this and it is quite easy ,431,421,421,531,531, whala a major scale and modes backwards
I think i was learning something similar to this, but I was taught differently because the shapes end up different. I was taught that each shape will end up with one string, the g or b, that only has two notes, and every other will have three. For example, at 14:43, instead of playing g# at the 9th fret of B, you move it up to the 4th fret of the high E and stop at the 7th fret B on the high E. Physically it's more playable but I don't how it comes together as a system and I already spent several months learning that way before having to move away :/ very confused all around and having to relearn everything.
I've been using your system for years now and it has been amazing to know it when I started to practice 3 finger (ami) scales which require 3 notes per string. Thanks you for you contribution. Not sure why this is not taught in schools ...
Before anything, I must mention that I've learned the scales I typically use mot-a-mot, if I could say so. My question is: Why the odd numbering system? Why not just start with 1 at the top, and change the names instead? For example, dorian would be 4, and minor would be 5. You would respect the same pattern (at least for these 7 modes), but, or at least so I believe, it would be so much easier to remember the whole thing. I admit, I haven't checked for each individual mode, therefore something might have slipped. If it is so, please do let me know. Is there any particular reason not to use the numbering this way or another? Thanks, and thank you for the awesome insturctional videos.
idvhfd check out the start of part 2. I wondered the same thing but the numbers relate to the note numbers in the scale and is therefore necessary. it magically all comes together when you watch part 2.
FANTASTIC!!!! 2 questions, 1. Why did you call it the Na System? 2. Is there a way to connect this pattern up or down the Entire fretboard? Again this is really amazing, can't wait to work on this system. Thank You!!!
Wow, great thanks for this, great great Job!, First I get confused but then you need to look way up high if you will use number 6-minor scale then going to highest e string you may use 6,2,5,1,7,3. Number 4 is not included since the 7 lines is already figured. :) Am I right? But, I suggest that we must memorize all the pitches on the fret board and the sequence of each Key. :D
ionian and lydian are major dorian and phrygian are minor locrian is technically minor but really unique to m7flat 5 chords and mixolydian is major but played so much over blues it mixes well with minor pentatonic
Too funny, 8576309 Jenny I got your number. This is great stuff. I am so glad I found your channel. I am an advanced player but I need my theory knowledge to advance because I see how it's holding me back from getting better as a player and a musician.

Thank you so much! This is Gold. Just one thing I want to add to this is that at 6:38 the numbers follow with its corresponded lines 7, 3, 6, 2, 5, 1, 4 is actually the circle of fifth.
this should be Pinned
This video is a GEM. Thanks a ton for making this ❤
Have to echo literally every comment. This system peeled the scales off my eyes! Now I can see it and can't ever unsee. Its so easy to visualize the pattern and apply it
you just perfectly described everything ive learned in 10 years of experience hammering random notes.... in 20 minutes

Yours series on The Na System has answered so many questions. Thank you!
Coincidently I made a grid like this 2 weeks ago to see the bigger picture on my 5 string bass and guitar and the repeat pattern was super interesting. I did it in excell. This Na system is good stuff! Thank you for these videos.
This worked so well! I've only experienced a 'click' type moment in guitar now 3 times and I love this feeling. Thank you so much!
brilliant, thanks a lot for all your videos! You are one of those small time heroes, you have just made everything a whole LOT easier in my musical life.
After years I came a to similar conclusion/thought process..very glad to find this video and solidify my knowledge!!

This is wild! I am 51 years old and have a learning problem.
I understand this.
Holy shit dude you just blew my mind! That's awesome!!!

This is awsome! Thanks, brother.
NOW I have some realistic hope of learning the fretboard. I seem to be pretty bad at memorizing stuff, but this really looks like a great system. Thank you greatly for this video!
I FINALLY LEARN THE MODES AFTER ALL THIS TIME!! OMG!!! THANKS!!
This is the best thing ever. I had to write it down but it doesnt get easier than this.

Dude, thank you. It makes sense. It's simple. Awesome!
very clear teaching, thanks
I think NA System is one of the the greatest discovery in the musical history of guitar.
NA System ?
Where did this system come from? I can't find anything online about it other than your videos.
Thanks, you should start making more videos again.
🧐JUST GENIUS
How would you apply this the keyboard/piano?Thanks.Very good video by the way.
GENIUS! SUBSCRIBED.
do u have an outline that we can download?
That's amazing
I've been trying to figure this out forever
WOW MAGICAL THING! THANKS SO MUCH!

same as the interval layout on the fretboard. thanks.
Great lesson - was I the only one who thought 'half-whole' sounds like calling someone an asshole after they've socked you in the grill?
Before anything, I must mention that I've learned the scales I typically use mot-a-mot, if I could say so.

well that just clicked.
same holy damn
Awesome
So did you come up with this?
FANTASTIC!!!! 2 questions, 1. Why did you call it the Na System? 2. Is there a way to connect this pattern up or down the Entire fretboard? Again this is really amazing, can't wait to work on this system. Thank You!!!
Why aren't any of these ?'s answered? Why Na name in particular.
yes go to my post
Wow, great thanks for this, great great Job!, First I get confused but then you need to look way up high if you will use number 6-minor scale then going to highest e string you may use 6,2,5,1,7,3.

But, I suggest that we must memorize all the pitches on the fret board and the sequence of each Key. :D
thank you!!!
I guess with minor scales you just start on the 6th and follow the same patterns ... ?
Why no responses to comments?
I am surprise at 6:58 when you started the pattern memorize..you didn't say 7(3) 6(2) 5{1} 4 and notice the 123 or 321 and the 7654
The sodium system?
Maybe you could travel to every church in the world and give everyone a lecture.
Very interesting. What is the origin of the name "NA System"?
Salty System :P
Τhank you !
Can you say epiphany?
Great
Welp, looks like I can solo with modes now!
major is the ionian mode and minor is aeolian mode.
ionian and lydian are major dorian and phrygian are minor locrian is technically minor but really unique to m7flat 5 chords and mixolydian is major but played so much over blues it mixes well with minor pentatonic

Holy. Shit.
Lucas, encontrei seus documentos, olhar mensagem no mensenger do face, obrigado
Neat
lost me with the number order
Man, great job but you need to play as part of the learning/instruction
You speak Like joker 'I dont wanna make it long'
this is actually cheating
