Yes 👍! I have to say that practice is crucial for a musician. It may sound obvious but I was just on a Jazz Brunch Gig and I learned Someone To Watch Over Me. We had a guest singer who played the song in a different KEY! 😳
Well I struggled with the tune from start to finish and I was miserable with everything about it! The point is the right practice would have been amazing rather than the struggle on stage in front of an audience! Not Fun !!

Nice video bro, well done. This concept is fundamental and hard to explain, you have done it very well. I can tell that learning music theory on the piano worth the effort. As a bassplayer and composer (just hobby, btw) the circle helps A LOT. I drawn it and wrote the sharps and flats, it kinda gives you a “map” for composing and for creating basslines. I imagine it must be a powerful tool for guitarrists

I've been playing for a long time. I know my instrument... but in a way that isn't theory based. I know that sounds stupid. I don't know how to explain it. So I won't. I used to be very much against learning theory. I actually still hold the belief that all new guitarists should have very little theory knowledge thrown in while they're learning. It's a writing thing. When you're very first learning the instrument if you are putting heavy theory in with every sit down, every moment, it will stunt your ability to be creative when writing.
Not destroy it. You can of course unlearn bad habits. It just slows the creative process down. You get these rules and shit that retard the process of writing what you want to write. (I used that word correctly so don't be some weird cultist complaining about my vocabulary please).
Where I screwed up was on the opposite end of that spectrum. I stopped with the theory stuff because I couldn't stop thinking about that stuff while trying to write. So I stopped... but my stoppage became hate for a long time. I should have picked theory back up so much sooner so I could round my knowledge out then instead of piecing shit back together now.
This video explained this concept better than any of the others I've seen. It's a shame I'm sitting outside about to go in and work. Gonna have to save this so I'm next to my instrument and go through this again.
Sigh... need a proper theory lesson.

  • @VashStarwind

Man music theory is so convoluted, and really feels like someone just made up some arbitrary rules to explain music one day. I dont understand how anyone gets it. I know a few scales, and the notes, but man thats about it. Wish i could figure it out more. But its easier for me to just listen to if something sounds good or not, rather than understanding why it does.

Up until this video I had a very loose understanding of the Circle of Fifths, I knew it could be used as a quick reference for chords in a key and the like but everywhere else Ive seen it explain just didn't quite click. But the way you put made a light bulb go off in my head and suddenly I got it. I love the way you format these lessons.

I have never, repeat never been able to get my head around any of this. I got 3 minutes into this with my guitar in hand and Google to check notes in keys etc... Now I'm exhausted and it's time to stop, let it sink in and come back and continue later. I'm beginning to think the secret is knowing - and sticking to - your mental limits.. i.e. working at it only in the size of chunk that your brain can digest at one sitting! Thanks. In the words of Arnie: I'll be back!

I've had music lessons in school for many years and we spoke about the circle of fifths a lot. I never understood it properly. Now I watched a 15 minutes video and it all makes sense.

Thanks for this explanation. I was absent the day this was taught in band (not joking) like 25 years ago and I've been struggling with it ever since.

30s into the video, the CMajor shape is wrong. But, holy crap, the rest of the video is fantastic; clear presentation of every concept.
