    Wow, I love it. What gauge are your aluminum strips, between 30 and 22 gauge? And where did you buy them? What I see on hardware store websites is aluminum strips for flooring. Thanks :)

    That was amazing and thank you for showing this great how to make cutters at home. Months ago, I bought a roll of tin but trying to make a cutter was a very, if not impossible thing ( and I was only trying for a very simple shape)! Now, I'm going to tackle it again trying to use your technique. MANY THANKS TO YOU! 🌟😊👍💃

      The thinnest strips I can buy in England are 2mm thick. Not sure I could cut that with scissors. Would rather not use Coke can strips (sharp edges) as I want to do it with children.

    • @tonyshi3688
      @tonyshi3688 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      “Aluminum flashing” can work, but it has its own drawbacks. It’s not made in readily used sizes, so you’d have to make your own strips (scoring the metal a few times with a utility knife and bending it to make the cut can warp the material less than cutting with scissors or tin snips would). Then the edges will need deburring and smoothing. Roundabout 400 grid sandpaper will do well enough for that, but it’s an extra step and possibly an extra item. Also, flashing usually comes coated in a light layer of oil, which is fine for roofing, but probably requires removal here. Sometimes (most of the time?) it is also plastic coated, which could be undesirable.
      If suitable aluminum strips are available, it’s likely not worth the effort, but otherwise, aluminum flashing can be viable. And if it matters, the cost of materials is probably less for flashing (outweighed by the cost of time and a potential ER visit to reattach your thumb, though maybe not so in Canada).

      If you go to the home improvement store, Lowe's or Home Depot, you'd search for a non treated aluminum flashing. You can get a minimum of a hundred cutters with one roll. I use a measuring ruler to be exact. I've been using the first cutter I made six years ago and it is till rust free and perfect. Only issue, do not buy treated. You can tell because it is painted Brown. And I contacted an aluminum factory and the flashing is the same product used for soda cans and aluminum foil. Meaning it is good safe. Good luck

      The roll of flashing I found is minimum of 8" wide.... Do you score the metal at maybe 24" lengths and then bend back and forth to snap and then do the same thing to cut the 8" down into 8- 1" strips that you then bend and snap?
