I can't believe it, but this has become a comfort video/speedrun. The easy, non-stressful gameplay plus the play-fighting between brothers just puts me at ease. I'm sure someone has said this already, but things moving "weirdly" in the background is actually an intentional graphics choice! Things that are sufficiently far from the camera drop way down in fps both to save power and as a cute aesthetic choice. You can notice things pick back up to their regular framerate as you draw closer to them. The depth of field effect is there for a similar reason; both to emphasise distances and to cut down on processing power. They learnt a lot from the tech issues in Star Allies.
I love how the P2 waddle dee is exactly like having a younger sibling play the game: - Not all rules that apply to you apply to him - Normalized disrespect - He is automatically a 2nd class citizen bc you're older - Need him anyway to exploit the game
I once helped someone new to kirby and the forgotten land play it and I played as player two and it was stress making sure they didn't die to some random enemy or falling down a hole.
Bandana waddle dee is honestly too op since he can't die. Whenever I fight a boss with my brother without having to do damagless, I just run right at the boss and start stabbing it without being careful at all. I like to call my strategy a risk but I don't care cuz my brother is good at dodging and stalling
I still find it hilarious that bandana waddle dee playable debut was with the spear copy ability but the spear copy ability hasn't been in any game where he's playable since return to dreamland so now he has a completely unique moveset unlike meta knight or dedede.
Fun fact: this design of King Dedede is inspired by his design in the Dark Matter trilogy(Dreamland 2, Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64) where instead of the wide beak, he has a more simplified mouth.

Over the course of the game it might not be that much faster, but it might save a few fractions of a second here and there.

The beast pack was all Fecto forgo's doing because after becoming Leongar he formed the brutal pack and started hunting down Elfilin. All this is revealed by Gotcha descriptions btw, they are this game's pause screen descriptions.
I freaking love this game. The graphics, the gameplay, the upgrades, the story, the bosses, the secrets, the fact that the waddle dees aren’t considered an enemy at all in this game! I love it. So much. If you don’t have this game, I would for sure get it.
The only real complaint I have is how it feels the need to have a billion different cutscenes every time you want to upgrade a power. First there's the actual scroll collection, then the cutscene where it highlights the forge, then the cutscene of giving forge dee the scroll(s), then a cutscene in front of every power for every single scroll you got, *then* finally there's the actual forging cutscene itself, which is the *only* skippable one.
Impressive how Kirby is one of the few franchises that gets better as time goes on, not worse. Impressive for Kirby, but disappointing for most other things.
i mean kirby very well could have gone that way. for a time after sakurai left kirby development, the series did stall and slump like the rest, and many didn’t think the series could pull through. game development is hard after all, especially amid the struggle between raw creativity and corporate considerations, and it’s unfortunate many franchises seem to decay or outright die when stuck in development hell kirby fortunately underwent a revival under a new director who is just really good at making things come together, and kirby has been wowing us ever since interestingly enough, sakurai did foresee the sequelitis that befalls most franchises and leave seemingly because of it. if the dev interviews are any indication, a lot of decisions regarding kirby development HAL has made were done with that possible decay / death in mind, between celebrating that the pink puff has pulled through against all odds and making sure everything was polished before making the jump to the third dimension
In my mind, I give every franchise a chance to have a few bad entries. I don’t care where in its lifespan they occur. And honestly, I can’t think of THAT many franchises that have significantly, objectively dropped in quality over time. Usually when people say “decline”, they mean “stagnate”.
Getting to play split screen coop with my sibling is easily one of the highlights of my entire childhood. Unfortunately I no long have to opportunity to experience that, but hearing you guys just have fun while playing this brings back all those amazing memories. Thank you.
The fact that if you are not thorough when exploring areas you cannot see all of the tasks you have to do to get Waddle Dees for completionists who don’t use online guides? The 5 fps background movement making everything move stutteringly in the back? Other than that, that’s it.

By model changes, do you mean color or his body changing shape? If it's color, then I agree, but if it's his body changing shape, then no that was weird and I didn't like it
it makes me wonder if it would be worth getting the 3rd lava upgrade, dragonfire, just because of how much damage it outputs in the lion and the final battle, if it takes under a minute to get it would be well worth it especially for the final boss because of how many invincible cycles he has, faster damage = less invincibility= more time saved, additionally because of how early it is theres more then a chance it would save time on the following levels.

... you can do actual dodges by holding dodge as you press a direction, it’s very useful for avoiding boss attacks and some abilities get an automatic charge if you get that slow motion thing.
Also during the slow mo bosses takes more damage even if you aren't using a charge. I don't think abilities get an automatic charge, but they just charge faster outright, which along with the more damage taken, makes bosses take more damage from a 1st/2nd level charge, than a regular 2nd/3rd level charge outright. And ranger gets a rapidshot counter that can be used up to 3 times (though the 3rd counter ends past the slowmo/invulnerability frames so one has to be careful not to overextend during multi-hit attacks)
I think this Kirby game is going to be a really sick speed game, especially if there are some skips found and exploits for some really cool time saves.

Actually, this is, at worst, the second time. Marx never counted as a friend as he debuted in the last subgame of Kirby Super Star that isn't a side mode and/or exclusive to Ultra. Morpho Knight doesn't count because 1) it is a superboss, not a final boss, and 2) we don't even know whether or not the same Morpho Knight that appears in the opening cutscene is the Morpho Knight fought, or even if the same Morpho Knight appears in every opening cutscene _with_ a Morpho Knight in it. Every other final boss, or final superboss, for that matter, has their role accurately conveyed.
45:48 I had to slow it down to 0.25× and spam pause to be as sure as possible. It was hard to tell but I think Chris just barely reached the cage first. The only thing I know for sure is that the closest you both were while at the same height Chris was infront, when it came to actually getting the waddle dee's it was hard to tell since waddle dee was on the ground and Kirby was in the air, but it seems to me like Chris won this one.

I think the only blueprint that would be valuable to this speedrun would be the dragon fire because you kinda fly when using the charge attack

By model changes, do you mean color or his body changing shape? If it's color, then I agree, but if it's his body changing shape, then no that was weird and I didn't like it

it makes me wonder if it would be worth getting the 3rd lava upgrade, dragonfire, just because of how much damage it outputs in the lion and the final battle, if it takes under a minute to get it would be well worth it especially for the final boss because of how many invincible cycles he has, faster damage = less invincibility= more time saved, additionally because of how early it is theres more then a chance it would save time on the following levels.
I like how Kirby games with their bosses slowly go from cute Kirby characters to "Final Fantasy Monster" at the end of the game😂

... you can do actual dodges by holding dodge as you press a direction, it’s very useful for avoiding boss attacks and some abilities get an automatic charge if you get that slow motion thing.
Also during the slow mo bosses takes more damage even if you aren't using a charge. I don't think abilities get an automatic charge, but they just charge faster outright, which along with the more damage taken, makes bosses take more damage from a 1st/2nd level charge, than a regular 2nd/3rd level charge outright. And ranger gets a rapidshot counter that can be used up to 3 times (though the 3rd counter ends past the slowmo/invulnerability frames so one has to be careful not to overextend during multi-hit attacks)

Actually, this is, at worst, the second time. Marx never counted as a friend as he debuted in the last subgame of Kirby Super Star that isn't a side mode and/or exclusive to Ultra. Morpho Knight doesn't count because 1) it is a superboss, not a final boss, and 2) we don't even know whether or not the same Morpho Knight that appears in the opening cutscene is the Morpho Knight fought, or even if the same Morpho Knight appears in every opening cutscene _with_ a Morpho Knight in it. Every other final boss, or final superboss, for that matter, has their role accurately conveyed.

Tip: when elfilus tries to heal, the one with the shadow is the real one.
21:28: I realize that Elifin is the most adorable character in the entire game, but he's a boy (according to the flavor text on his Gotcha figurine).
45:48 I had to slow it down to 0.25× and spam pause to be as sure as possible. It was hard to tell but I think Chris just barely reached the cage first. The only thing I know for sure is that the closest you both were while at the same height Chris was infront, when it came to actually getting the waddle dee's it was hard to tell since waddle dee was on the ground and Kirby was in the air, but it seems to me like Chris won this one.
I did the same and found that when they turned invisible (triggering the short cutscene) was when Chris landed so Chris did win this one

@@Dav7id2003 agreed. All of waddle dee was fs behind the tornado when they dissapeared. I honestly couldn't tell at normal speed but at 0.25 it was way easier.
