  • I recorded this walk on Thursday. It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon with some wind and cool temperatures. I hope you enjoy this video of Clarendon as much as I enjoyed the walk.

Clarendon is an urbanized, upper-class neighborhood in Arlington County, Virginia, located between the Rosslyn area and the Ballston area. It was named after Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, a leading statesman and historian of the English Civil War. The main thoroughfares are Wilson Boulevard (one-way westbound) and Clarendon Boulevard (one-way eastbound).
Clarendon is also host to several local and County-wide events each year, including Arlington's Neighborhood Day parade (held the second Saturday in May), the Mardi Gras parade and Tax Blues Night. The largest annual event, "Clarendon Day," is held on a Saturday in mid-October and features four live music stages, local restaurant and coffee house booths, clothing, jewelry, antiques and collectibles sales, children's games and rides, an ice-cream eating contest and other local traditions. Additionally, each spring Clarendon is host to the Clarendon Cup, part of the Armed Forces Cycling Classic, one of the largest one-day professional and amateur bicycle races in the U.S.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, a farmers market at Clarendon's Central Park was held on Wednesday afternoons from spring through mid-December and featured organic produce, baked goods, plants and herbs, homemade soaps and other items for sale.

Clarendon is one of our smart growth success stories. This walkable neighborhood features an eclectic mix of upscale businesses and mom-and-pop shops, bars, restaurants, office buildings, public art, considerable open space and tree-lined residential streets. With a reputation for its great diversity of dining options and lively nightlife, Clarendon is a popular destination for locals as well as visitors from the metropolitan area.
Planning efforts here have helped create an easily accessible and attractive community, where residents report above-average public transportation use, helping to reduce the area’s carbon footprint.

Clarendon hums with activity morning, noon and night. Clarendon is especially known for lively nightlife, a perfect location for a great date night at any age, and a center of activity for the younger crowd. If you’re looking for fun in the evenings, you’ll always find it in Clarendon.
Visit a craft brewery, dine at one of many only-in-Arlington eateries, kick back in a pub or hear live bands. Clarendon is one of two Arlington courses for the annual Armed Forces Cycling Classic each summer, and Clarendon Day is one of Arlington’s favorite fall festivals, featuring multiple music stages, kids’ activities, arts and crafts vendors, and more.
Once a settlement for Vietnamese refugees, the neighborhood once was nicknamed “Little Saigon” and still has a few of the Vietnamese restaurants that opened when the area rose to prominence in the 1970s.

That first block of buildings, starting with the little corner restaurant down to Highland is virtually unchanged in 50 years. The corner restaurant was Chinese, the 7-11 was the old Public Shoe Store and all the other buildings were Vietnamese businesses. That area was known as "Little Saigon" at the time. No subway back then but I caught my bus on that block 😊
