- When making bows, the most common question I hear is, "Can I make a bow out of (insert random wood here)?" The answer I often give is, why not? In this video, I go over making a bow out of Padauk, a wood found in India, Indochina, the South Pacific, West Africa, and even southern Florida. This board had some bug holes in it but I was able to cut them out though those did make the bow need a backing to protect it and keep it functional. Also, if you ever get the chance to smell this wood, please do so. You'll thank me later.
As always, thanks for watching and may you find success in making your next bow!
That's an exciting project! Keep up the good work!
beautiful bow bro
so beautiful
Thank you!
Amazing work. My dream bow would be something made out of a type of ironwood. Have you ever worked with it before?
I haven’t but would love to do that as well. Next on my list is zebra wood and wenge. Got to see about sourcing some ironwood
What do you think of Yellow Balau I know it very hard. About 1700
If I could get my hands on some I would love to try it. No other thoughts though
Amazing! What would be you go to wood for Bow?
For me, I would say hickory. It makes a great bow and can put up with a lot of abuse. Also, really easy to get a hold of.
Are you by chance selling any?
I do take commission orders. You can contact me through my website, bowtellbows.com

Biggest advice is start with a good piece of hickory if you can get some and go for it!

But would you trust it?
Guess only time will tell.

Also,have you tried yew wood?
I have made a couple yew bows now and it is a very interesting wood. Makes a great bow for sure.

Could you tell us the dimensions please
It is a 6’ bow with a 6” handle section and about 1.5” wide at the widest on the tips. Pretty standard longbow dimensions
