This song is about Fëanor, the elf who led the Noldor to Middle-Earth in pursuit of Morgoth. In his determinance to revenge his father and retrieve the silmarils, he comitted the first kinslaying - elf killing elf - to get the ships needed to cross the ocean. This doomed him and all his followers by prophecy.
