I replaced my old 4.5 kW system with an 18 kW Nissan Leaf battery, and it works like a charm! I’ve saved so much on gasoline-it's unbelievable. I also added solar panels to charge the car while driving. Now, I’m exploring ways to cover the entire car with solar panels!
@@Polerface774 Well, like I showed and explained in my TH-cam video: 6K for the Prius, 3.5K for 20 kWh of lithium batteries, and 600 bucks for the hybrid charger... In which country are you based? th-cam.com/video/q3z28DAs9KM/w-d-xo.html
@@prashantkadam6296 I got the same question on my TH-cam channel @backtotheprius , and I would strongly advise against trying to do it yourself due to the high risk of electrocution. What I did was go to an EV conversion specialist who assembled the parts I requested. (3.5 K budget) They’ll guide you on the right type of battery. I almost bought Mirai batteries, which would’ve been a mistake. I’m not sure which country you're in, but if you're in Europe, I can recommend a company in Finland that sells parts
I have a Prius PHV for my personal use. I have learn a lots of knowledge about the maintenance of Prius to watch your video. Now i need to know the electrical drawing as i am electrical engineer. Well this was 10 years ago when these 3rd gen Prius's were new so the pricing was bit different back then. Now it would not be worth it to do for such an old car but it would probably cost less as batteries are cheaper.
nop they just got aid milions from toyota and signed paper to never do this again to a toyota so that is why toyota today offers this on their priuse's :D
Does the car charge both battery banks, or do I have to go plug in to gain the benefit. Also is it the same on new model year of the Prius like 2012 or younger?
I don't think this would be that worth it because the electric motor in the prius is only designed to go up to a certain speed. You would still use gas in this set up.
Only if they were not in San Francisco. Personally don't need to avoid stepping in shit on the sidewalk. " Literally human poop" San Francisco is a horrible mess. If you visit CA avoid SF and check out our wine county. Napa Sad, I was going to get this service added to my prius but not in SF
Close to 3 prius. Doesn't make any sense. It would be interesting to do if somebody could sell us a kit that can be retrofitted as a Diy for a reasonable price
Hey fist of all thanks for the video . I drove RAV4 2019 hybrid I’m looking for more mileage on hybrid system avoiding high fuel price . Is that’s possible if yes how can I reach you . Could you share the store location ur phone number ur email to talk to you guys .
some kinda quick questions 1, could two battery packs be used,if ordered. (as a special order). 2, a solar roof panel be added to the conversion package ( with single or dual packs. thanks for your time. sincerely.
a solar roof is not powerfull enough to charge your car. you may be able to turn the ventilation on. without aircon. thats all its good for. to charge a car it would take forever of straight sunburn. with forever I mean a month!
Not a month, never. It will never charge a prius traction battery with a prius solar roof. It would be like trying to fill a pool with eye drop container. Solar plays really good with battery packs, but you need a large foot print to balance a system... that is where solar & cars are not for traction. Solar in vehicles go good with campers, RVs, etc. Energy is not required for traction, it's used for leisure & commodity.

So ..what is the gain? Now you are carrying more weight all the time so more energy is needed to move it ..all the time ..all you gain is extended electric range ...not better economy because it actually hurts your economy ..also electricity still isn't free you gotta get it some where...or have we figured out how to refill with lighting bolts?

Why
Why hasn't this been given more support, by Toyota themselves no less
How much this system cost now a days?

I love the idea of this but at that price point, how many miles/months/years would it take to break even for the investment ROI?

Oh my God! Exposed hot prongs
If you drive down a mountain in a converted prius, does the regen braking recharge the second battery?
Yes
Good Question!

Jack Brown that twig?
Wanna do my Camry.....but nobody does this in Australia.
I get about 55mpg after I reconditioned my gen 2 hv, I was thinking about adding another 28 cell for better mileage

for 12,000 you can put that towards a new prius that's already phev

For $9000, you can buy an entire Prius that already has a plug in!
This year 2020 you can even use a cheap tesla battery pack and even have more range
I wonder why they can't do a Prius V?
Can this be done with a Rav4 or a Rav4 Hybrid?
Can do with any synergic hybrid
$12k?? I'M OUT!
I get 62mpg with a regular prius. Toyota will definitely void parts of your warranty that this battery can affect.

No all Prius models from 2012 are plug in now.

It’s already a PHEV.
