Mini-sets are new and have been doing this since they started with them. To say "retired mechanic" when the mechanics that the mini-sets are pulling from are still in standard is also kind of a stretch. Adapt is the main one he docks points for in custom cards and that's just an example of an actual retired mechanic that won't/hasn't gone evergreen. Also, I believe recently he's been looking at those cards as if they were printed in those expansions. Not saying I agree with his method, but I don't think it's as absurd as your comment makes it out to be.
I think Sindragosa's one saving grace is that she's a multi-rune card. You would literally never put her in a deck, but Frost Strike and Hematurge both always get played in their respective deck types and honestly she's not a bad option to choose when she's just randomly generated by other cards.

Thaddius is a 1* card but is 5* as a minion every single Goldshire Gnoll will evolve into for the next 2 months. Even though the math says there's a 37.5% chance of Thaddius from an evolved 9-10 cost with Transmutation we all know it will really be 100%
@@ruukinen Yeah it's a bug because forms one reason the discover isn't factoring in the code for limiting the evolve pool. So dumb it got past testing when it should have been blatantly obvious.
Honestly surprised there hasn't been a card printed yet that just says something like "Fill your board with 0/2 Target Dummies". Depending on cost i bet it would actually see some amount of play. A Mirror Image on steroids.
@@Noobie2k7 warrior has some great taunt buffing cards, problem is taunt warrior isnt a thing and warrior usually puts out 1 or 2 big taunts over 6 little ones, making the buffing cards useless. in the rotated sets aka wild there are plenty of strong taunt buffs aswell but no good cards synergy. filling your board with 0/2 target dummies would either be wa to weak or tooo strong
I feel like the powercreep implemented by all the new sets is really starting to limit design space. Cards have to be really broken for their mana cost to be able to be run. I feel like this is evidenced by how most cards are either 5 or 1 stars
It just makes you groan basically. Now of course this review is just Trumps opinion, but the vibe is basically the same as most sets. You get a small amount of relevant cards and then just a bunch random stuff that might turn into something but probably not.
I totally agree. I hope with the rotation of some of the most BUSTED sets to date (in my opinion) that the power level of the game starts to decrease a little bit. This set has cool cards, but up against the insanity that is modern HS, most are for sure 1-star. My hope is that this set is indicating at least a trend toward a lower power level game so that we can maybe see games go to turn 8…
Its why I quit playing the game and I know its often a problem with many tcgs but it just felt bad buying new packs knowing the cards i'm getting are going to be useless in a pretty small amount of time.
One other thing about blazing transmutation, you can target enemies... so in a pinch you can use it as a 1mana poly where you can choose the worst minion
I think with both Mistake and Amalgam of the Deep Murloc Shamans might be able to run Frostfin Chomper without even needing to run elementals or could just slot in like one with menacing nimbus or something I don't think it will be that detrimental to deck building
overall i think most of these cards arent too relevant for this set but after rotation i could see lots of these seeing play eventually, ice storage just reads as a 1 mana zola for any shaman combo so even if i dont think its gonna be run now its defo something to look out for
Plus once rotation hits it will be the only frost spell in rotation for Shaman assuming none are printed in the next set. Meaning you will always get copies from cards like Aszharan scroll. Making it incredibly easy to tutor out more than 2 copies a game. Thankfully Macaw will be rotating out at the same time though.
It would have been cool if they introduced an adventure with this like the original Curse of Naxxramas where they feature old bosses that get new mechanics and cards
regarding Druid and Guff, I feel like 11+ mana Druid being a class mechanic could be a defining mechanic, but that'd also mean the cards have to be tuned in accordance to that. It'd probably be a balancing nightmare, but it's fun to idly think about
more than 10 mana isn't hearthstone, they need to ban Guff and stop with that, since the day one when Guff was shown it was bad and game breaking... I can't stand that mechanic.
Something to say for blazing transmutation is that can target your opponents minions, so if there is something scary you can use it in a pinch to transform it into something without any sinergy with their deck

If you're ending your turns with unspent mana when playing a fairly aggressive deck (control decks have no interest in that card), you're playing hearthstone wrong.
Trump is looking at the DK Colossus wrong. Yes Blood cannot give up a rune, however playing Frost DK but with the Colossus+Patchwerk+Gnome Munchers instead of Frostwyrms fury sounds promising depending on the meta game.
Probably not worth it. Frostwyrm won so many games for me last month with 60 percent winrate at low legend. Why destroy enemy minions when u can freeze them and block their board so they cant even play minions.
Fun fact, Trump: the Sindragosa colossal was a card you showed off in a recent Custom Hearthstone Cards episode. It had a very different effect (generating Frost spells and making them cheaper), but it’s kind of fun they used the same aesthetic concept (Sindragosa and two wings).
13:35 I think actually, if fleshshaper didn't have the condition, it would be good. The issue is the condition is hard to meet on curve. If you play shield block into fleshshaper, it might be too late against aggro or 9 mana 6/16 isn't good enough. 15:20 There actually is an aggro demonhunter deck. I hadn't seen it around but I looked it up on hsreplay and apparently it has 55% winrate. It would love to play a 1 drop with premium stats and smallish downside because it draws a fuckton and the 1 drops in that deck are not amazing. Also, the reasoning I gave on stream still applies, aggro decks can afford to run 1 drops that are not absolutely OP because they punish opponents for not having early game.

It also needs to be reliable and generally unfair on all situations to be considered playing. Of course people will experiment, but it has to beat the already existing cards/decks first.

Did Trump just forget about the T2 Enrage Warrior archetype existing for Hookfist? Aggressive statted minion for an aggro deck, constant weapon presence with Imbued Axe and Rohkara, need for draw as the deck is lacking currently, mitigates the damage from hitting a minion with hero, and is a pirate tribe minion for possible generation by Nellie which is currently being run in the VS Enrage deck.

All of these cards which require weird tribes to be played are meant to be used with Mistake and Amalgam, and you would always have those in any minion based tribe deck.
I can even see this being played in wild tbh. Sure, he is right in that ramp Druids rather want reactions and clears to stay alive and gather their combo. But one of these combos that they are searching nowadays is Brann+Astalor which does deal face damage or Sire Denathrius which does the same. A 6 mana 10/10 Taunt Charge sometimes allows you to close out a game and if your opponent has say 15 health but threatens lethal you can still make a desperado and play this and go face as it has Taunt and maybe your opponent has to ram 2-3 minions into it to clear it so you stay alive and maybe win. I think with Guff in play (so in wild, always) this cards upside is too relevant to completely pass on it. I dont know about Standard though once Guff rotates, if the new ramp card is bad then yeah sure beetle dies with it.
I don't even play the game anymore, but coming from shadowverse, anything that can charge 10 damage out of nowhere easily is something to be kept watch.

Yeah, this is the rating I disagree the most with. Especially for the next two months Druid can get to 12 mana very quickly and then throw 20 damage at face pretty consistently (2 beetles or a beetle and a battle master).
Rake fits into Quest Druid really well since that deck didn't traditionally have many ways to get around taunts efficiently and when you already have 8 attack from playing Guff a single Rake would clear that taunt and give you a free slam at the enemy's face. All in all, has potential to shore up a major weakness.
7:48 Trump, I think you might have misunderstood my comments from your stream. I said that beast hunter was willing to jump through a lot of hoops to get a similar effect to faithful companions. If you took the same deck, took out the azsharan saber engine, and replaced it with other good midgame, you have an insane turn 10 without jumping through all the hoops. I'm unsure what midgame you could put in that would be better though which might be what makes this card not good.
One Blood with Frost is run by some frost DKs. Maybe not in Legend, yet, but it is in Diamond and high platinum.And it will probably be run more when Sindragosa comes out because she changes that 1 mana spell they have from "Deal 2 damage to an enemy and freeze them" to 1 mana "Kill any minion".
Zombees doesn't need to played in Secret Hunter specifically. You are too small minded! It kills Brann if your opponent plays it. It can kill other combo minions as your opponent tries to go off, potentially ones coming in new expansions.
Huh, what spell generation are you talking about? Frost Dk has exaclty 3 ways to spend corpses, 2 mana draw, 4 mana freeze weapon and 6 mana marrow manipulator and all 3 of them dont even make into every list
Today I cast Cold storage on my opponents Warrior quest reward, neutralizing the 7/7 for a turn and allowed me to keep up with them, winning the game, incredible card.
It's kinda wild that we're at a place where a 4 mana 3/5 with Rush and Windfury is considered bad. The fact that I can remember using Windchill Yeti makes me feel ancient now. I know that was a 4/5, but still!

Not a bad cards at all, but its so slow and hard to process in current meta...some would expect that if warrior is already worst WR class thah they ll boost him with some rly good cards and easy to execute not depending on other elements...at least if hookfist was 3/4 not 4/3 to maybe live at least two turns..
Lost Exarch I think is really close to being much better than one star. Essentially it is 4 mana 5/4 with taunt because if she doesn't die on your opponents next turn turn she becomes a pretty flexible on board answer to a lot of things. On your next turn, you can trade her in and pick up 10/10 with rush for 5 mana and gain net 6 corpses or 5 tokens to buff. I thing it lies in the 4 health. 4 health is low enough you can trade her in without too much effort, but it also feels too low that your opponent doesn't need to burn any major answers to make sure she doesn't pop when you have mana. At 5 damage she isn't something that can be ignored for long, which help her soft-taunt characteristic. So maybe make her a 5/5? 5/5 with taunt for 4 mana with a potential major upside if not delt with I think would make her much for appealing to some decks. 4 mana 4/6 wouldn't be out of the question either, but would make her considerably more difficult to destroy on your turn when you have mana to burn into her deathrattle.
Cold storage 1 star? 1 mana to get a second of any number of combo cards that really want to be 2 or 3 of's? Or counter that evil minion your opponent plays that kills your board? I think it's the strongest card in the set.
I think it might overall be the strongest card revealed this year due to its versatility alone, aside from some of the nerfed cards. I have no idea what Trump saw when he saw the card, or if he is reading the same card I am seeing.
the thing is, freezing your own minions is a significant disadvantage in any deck that isn't an extreme control deck, and even then it's worse than it might sound initially because you prevent that minion from trading and controlling the board, but I do agree that the card has far more potential than what Trump implied in the video
It's almost like you didn't pay attention to the video. He specifically said that is 1 star BECAUSE OF 'Windchill' and that there aren't room for both in the current meta deck. Drawing a card from your deck is generally better than copying something from your board with a drawback or getting a non synergic card from the opponent.
How is Sindragosa just using her wings the strongest outcome you're going to get? Does Hearthstone just have no boards now or does Deathknight have no cheap/wide freezes?
@@KhaPha No. Rimescale Siren is more likely (Might of Menethil could also work if Sindragosa manages to survive or there are discounts), and after looking through Deathknight cards they are lacking in good freezing cards. While I wouldn't go as hard on it as Trump it really is lacking in synergy.
For cards like Frostfin and the Mech/Dragon Paladin thing, I think the intention isn't to run like hybrid packages but to just encourage more use of the amalgams, since Amalgam of the Deep is already seeing some level of play in those tribal-focused decks. So encouraging players to use the new one mana one.

Cold Storage says freeze A minion so you can freeze your own to get another copy of a card you might need. This can set up some shenanigans or might be powerful because it can let u run more than 3 copies of a card.

there are no 11 cost cards in the standard format, so 10 cost cards get rerolled into other 10 cost cards, this counts for every mana value so if for example in a standard cycle there weren't any 7 costs (this will most likely never happen, it's just for the sake of the example) all 6 costs would get evolved into other 6 costs and all 8 costs would get devolved into other 8 costs, in wild you can go to 11 and 12 and iirc even 13

I think as a random generation she's super powerful. Really good card to get randomly, probably not worth playing straight up due to rune restraints

I can even see this being played in wild tbh. Sure, he is right in that ramp Druids rather want reactions and clears to stay alive and gather their combo. But one of these combos that they are searching nowadays is Brann+Astalor which does deal face damage or Sire Denathrius which does the same. A 6 mana 10/10 Taunt Charge sometimes allows you to close out a game and if your opponent has say 15 health but threatens lethal you can still make a desperado and play this and go face as it has Taunt and maybe your opponent has to ram 2-3 minions into it to clear it so you stay alive and maybe win. I think with Guff in play (so in wild, always) this cards upside is too relevant to completely pass on it. I dont know about Standard though once Guff rotates, if the new ramp card is bad then yeah sure beetle dies with it.

I don't even play the game anymore, but coming from shadowverse, anything that can charge 10 damage out of nowhere easily is something to be kept watch.

And by the way, if you played the game in the past you would have known that Druid could burst you from hand easily with summon trees with charge + savage roar, no restriction required except having the mana to play it.
Yeah, this is the rating I disagree the most with. Especially for the next two months Druid can get to 12 mana very quickly and then throw 20 damage at face pretty consistently (2 beetles or a beetle and a battle master).

Tinker Tracker is useful in wild to find hero power quest
Rake fits into Quest Druid really well since that deck didn't traditionally have many ways to get around taunts efficiently and when you already have 8 attack from playing Guff a single Rake would clear that taunt and give you a free slam at the enemy's face. All in all, has potential to shore up a major weakness.
7:48 Trump, I think you might have misunderstood my comments from your stream. I said that beast hunter was willing to jump through a lot of hoops to get a similar effect to faithful companions. If you took the same deck, took out the azsharan saber engine, and replaced it with other good midgame, you have an insane turn 10 without jumping through all the hoops. I'm unsure what midgame you could put in that would be better though which might be what makes this card not good.

One Blood with Frost is run by some frost DKs. Maybe not in Legend, yet, but it is in Diamond and high platinum.And it will probably be run more when Sindragosa comes out because she changes that 1 mana spell they have from "Deal 2 damage to an enemy and freeze them" to 1 mana "Kill any minion".

Zombees doesn't need to played in Secret Hunter specifically. You are too small minded! It kills Brann if your opponent plays it. It can kill other combo minions as your opponent tries to go off, potentially ones coming in new expansions.
4:30 frost doesn't play the weapon because it needs all the bodies for spell generation.Spells however, they have in ample supply.
Huh, what spell generation are you talking about? Frost Dk has exaclty 3 ways to spend corpses, 2 mana draw, 4 mana freeze weapon and 6 mana marrow manipulator and all 3 of them dont even make into every list

Today I cast Cold storage on my opponents Warrior quest reward, neutralizing the 7/7 for a turn and allowed me to keep up with them, winning the game, incredible card.
Miniset flavor will likely be something like Naxxramas Laboratories so I'm excited to see the Trump Laboratories crossover!
It's kinda wild that we're at a place where a 4 mana 3/5 with Rush and Windfury is considered bad. The fact that I can remember using Windchill Yeti makes me feel ancient now. I know that was a 4/5, but still!
Wow normally blizzard waits a little till they start to power creep but with dark transformation and construct quater they were fast.
I think cold storage might be one of the top cards in the set other than that I think I mostly agree with the ratings

Lost Exarch I think is really close to being much better than one star. Essentially it is 4 mana 5/4 with taunt because if she doesn't die on your opponents next turn turn she becomes a pretty flexible on board answer to a lot of things. On your next turn, you can trade her in and pick up 10/10 with rush for 5 mana and gain net 6 corpses or 5 tokens to buff. I thing it lies in the 4 health. 4 health is low enough you can trade her in without too much effort, but it also feels too low that your opponent doesn't need to burn any major answers to make sure she doesn't pop when you have mana. At 5 damage she isn't something that can be ignored for long, which help her soft-taunt characteristic. So maybe make her a 5/5? 5/5 with taunt for 4 mana with a potential major upside if not delt with I think would make her much for appealing to some decks. 4 mana 4/6 wouldn't be out of the question either, but would make her considerably more difficult to destroy on your turn when you have mana to burn into her deathrattle.

Cold storage 1 star? 1 mana to get a second of any number of combo cards that really want to be 2 or 3 of's? Or counter that evil minion your opponent plays that kills your board? I think it's the strongest card in the set.
I think it might overall be the strongest card revealed this year due to its versatility alone, aside from some of the nerfed cards. I have no idea what Trump saw when he saw the card, or if he is reading the same card I am seeing.
the thing is, freezing your own minions is a significant disadvantage in any deck that isn't an extreme control deck, and even then it's worse than it might sound initially because you prevent that minion from trading and controlling the board, but I do agree that the card has far more potential than what Trump implied in the video
It's almost like you didn't pay attention to the video. He specifically said that is 1 star BECAUSE OF 'Windchill' and that there aren't room for both in the current meta deck. Drawing a card from your deck is generally better than copying something from your board with a drawback or getting a non synergic card from the opponent.
1. Play gnoll. 2. Kill something with gnoll. 3. Cold storage on your gnoll. 4. Muck pools your gnoll. 5. Repeat in 2 turns. 6. Legend probably.
Faithful companion is discover not a random beast and has no dredge requirement making it much much more consistent.
How is Sindragosa just using her wings the strongest outcome you're going to get? Does Hearthstone just have no boards now or does Deathknight have no cheap/wide freezes?

@@KhaPha No. Rimescale Siren is more likely (Might of Menethil could also work if Sindragosa manages to survive or there are discounts), and after looking through Deathknight cards they are lacking in good freezing cards. While I wouldn't go as hard on it as Trump it really is lacking in synergy.
Dark transformation not infrequently soft silences opponents undead minions so the location takes that fairly strong benefit away.
Cold Storage is much better, it didnt say target friendly minion. So you can get a copy of enemies big minions.

For cards like Frostfin and the Mech/Dragon Paladin thing, I think the intention isn't to run like hybrid packages but to just encourage more use of the amalgams, since Amalgam of the Deep is already seeing some level of play in those tribal-focused decks. So encouraging players to use the new one mana one.

Cold Storage says freeze A minion so you can freeze your own to get another copy of a card you might need. This can set up some shenanigans or might be powerful because it can let u run more than 3 copies of a card.

ok i might be stupid but how do you blazing transform gnoll into thaddius ? it says that costs 1 more. doesnt it go to 11 mana ? if not please tell me because i am confused
there are no 11 cost cards in the standard format, so 10 cost cards get rerolled into other 10 cost cards, this counts for every mana value so if for example in a standard cycle there weren't any 7 costs (this will most likely never happen, it's just for the sake of the example) all 6 costs would get evolved into other 6 costs and all 8 costs would get devolved into other 8 costs, in wild you can go to 11 and 12 and iirc even 13
