Hi, nail technician here!! This is by far the most accurate video I’ve seen on TH-cam, it is straight to the point and really shows everything you need to know in order to do them at home, keep it up I love your channel!! ❤
do i need to put a base gel before gluing the nails with hard gel? sometimes i see people do it because without it it could damage the nails but sometimes people dont do it can you give me some advice please? thank you!
can I Just ask, Do you wipe your nail bed with a cloth to wipe the oil off before you put the hydrator on or can you just put the dehydrator on after the cuticle oil ?
Just a tip if you start your application of hard gel or just nail polish start with your pinky and work your thumb you avoid touching any of your nails. My mum gave me this tip 40 years ago and it works!! Great tips on prepping our nails
@@RanidouChachonope, gel is a resin and the curing is a chemical reaction that you need a uv lamp for, uncured gel leads to contact dermatitis so a full cure lamp is 100% required

I binged your nails videos, and started doing my own a couple months ago!!! I’ve gotten so good that even my friends have asked me to do their nails!! Thanks for motivating me and giving me a way to do my nails easily at home!!!!
omg when i first saw your nails i thought “wow i wish mine were so strong and healthy…” and to hear that you also suffer from very thin nails blew my mind. I struggle with my incredibly thin nails and can never get them to glow and look good. Thank you for this video!!!
I thought the Sally Hansen cuticle remover was the best ever until I tried the Blue Cross cuticle remover. That stuff is insane! It works immediately and removes dead skin that I didn't even realize was there. It works really well on my toe nail cuticles which are more stubborn.
Agreed. I used the Sally Hanson till this past winter when I too bought the Blue Cross. That stuff is bonkers how well and fast it works...and ESPECIALLY on toes!
I’m getting better at doing these… as soon as one pops off I start over… prepping differently then I did the first time…. Getting better every time. Thank you for this video

I just spent hundreds on full cover tips and finally decided to sculpt nails with gel instead but if I can get your method to work I will be so grateful 🌹
Hi great video! As a suggestion dont use oil in your nails before applying gel, that is the last step, the oil is absorved by the nail and causes lifting, using oil and then a primer which dehidrated the nail is not the correct way
I was just going to say that! Gel HATES oils. If anyone else sees this do not use lotions/ hair oils etc 24 hours before you do your nails! it helps i swear!
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been doing my own nails for at least 10 years now. Just recently I switched to the Aprės brand & LOVE them! There are some great tips here that I’ll use to make sure my nails don’t lift. Thank you! 😍

Thank you so much for this video!! I ordered everything and am sooo excited! I only went to a salon twice now and had super bad experiences both times, I watched your videos and decided to take matters into my own hands, I absolutely cannot wait!!!
I watched this video so many times and just did my gel x following her video and buying a lot of the stuff she used and I love my nails. As a person doing this for the first time it did take me about 4 hours but this video helped so much. Thank you for making this video I’m never having someone else do my nails. ❤❤
i've been doing my own nails for three years and what's really helped me is the dry manicure method. downsides of that is obviously my cuticiles get super dry and i have to moisturize them every day but my nails last so long. I also use a nail gel glue that's in a "jelly" form compared to regular nail gel glue that comes in a bottle. those literally stick to your nails for so long!
I just started doing my gel x nails at home and have been having this problem, thank you so much for this video! I am absolutely going to follow these steps!
This is exactly why i started doing my own nails. Going to the shop the design was beautiful but they did not last a week before lifting. Doing my own my nails last an easy three weeks! My key is dry manicure and following the steps of whatever system you are using.
14:44 😂😂 Nice 👌 I'm about to start doing my own gel x nails. While waiting for the kit to arrive in the mail, I've watched every tutorial I could find on TH-cam. Thank you Kayli ❤ this is the only method that works for me… doing my nails myself ! When I go to the salon they pop off like in 2-2.5 weeks… and they high end nail salons supposed to use high end products and high end techniques… when I use your method they last like one month!
Just single handidly bought everything in your description to get started on doing Gel-x nails!! im super nervous so i am hoping it comes out good but I am fully invested and inspired. Can not wait for more nail vids
Just came by to say I’ve watched your video 2 weeks ago and applied your knowledge and my nails that used to last hours sometimes are now on their second week!!!!!! Thank you for the tips ❤
1) don’t put cuticle oil onto your nail plate in the middle of the prep process, if you have oily nails like me that’ll make your problem worse. 2) hard gel is not meant to soak off… builder in a bottle and rubber bases can, but hard gel isn’t meant to be soaked off, it’s meant to be consistently infilled.
Hard gel can be a soak off gel as well and if you do proper prep you can put oil on she does that because its benifical to her nail health if it doesnt help you dont do it
@@n0thum4n actually hard gel isn’t to be soaked off, you have to file it off. There is however structure gel which is like a hard gel but can be soaked off
I was thinking exact same thing. That is for after. If shes that worried about the health of nails then dont do fake nails. Just do the oil. ? Lol still like ur video tho.
I agree with you 100% Hard Gel = file off, Soft Gel = soak off. If someone is soaking their nails a long time in acetone to remove hard gel then that would be why the nails are brittle and damaged, due to the long soaking process and prying to remove the hard product. As a professional nail tech I would not be putting cuticle oil on during application either. Its counter productive and a waste of product and money because you using dehyrator to remove it. Just wait until you have finished, that will be fine.
as a nail tech i loveeee the dehydrator and primer from apres, my clients extensions have lasted more than 4 weeks on medical emergencies (i DO NOT recommend this otherwise)when they cant come to see me, and for taking care of them i recommend ibx treatment and daddy oil to promote growth and cuticle care in general (Aquaphor is amazing too) 💗
I have that same bottle for liquids that makes it so much easier for alcohol solutions etc, a really cheap but really handy buy. ❤️ I also have the goose neck lamp which made a massive difference also. Great step by step instructions btw and I love the black and white designs on your nails, so stunning . 🖤💅 Blessings from Scotland. 🙏 🏴 🌹
Wow that was by far the best explanation I have heard! Thank you so much ❤️ I have had similar issues with nails and until now I was stumped. Looking forward to seeing more. Have a blessed day.
This answered like 5 questions I’ve always wondered (is it ok to keep a base of gel? Should I use more dehydrator/primer over the base coat?) great video, THANK YOU
Gonna try the prep on the inside of the tips next time! Thanks. I also file the top side of the cuticle edge of my tips before I stick them on. Makes the cuticle separation ridge a lot thinner.
I tried it with a Mani I tried to do yesterday night, they popped off this morning. Literally use the same products and did everything in this video step by step. Normally I go in with an efile but tried the primer method. Didn't last at all.
@@isabelcapeles2346 I tried it, too, but my tips are pre-textured at the nail plate. Just returned from vacation and, other than one breaking off in the extention area because they were too long, I've had no lifting at the cuticle (and I'm someone who gets immediate lifting from "professional" applications).
Thank you for showing me how to prep my nails. I had never scraped the skin off of my nail cuticles, so my nails were always popping off. I followed your steps in this video, and it has been two weeks and none of my nails have lifted at the cuticles. I will never skip that step again. Thank you so much.
I always put the dehydrator back over the hard gel to get oils off the gel but the primer is designed to prep natural nails so it doesn’t really make a difference if you put the primer. But it works either way obviously
ok I always kept having them pop off the cuticle so knowing that you don't put the nail right in the cuticle so you can blend it to your natural nail helps me so much!!
Thanks for the content and creative inspiration.😊 I don't have 10 years of doing nails but a few suggestions. *always wipe off your brush before putting back in the bottle,, dehydrator/primer, less dust contamination. *adhesion has both chemical and mechanical. Buffing/sanding is the mechanical adhesion. *gel and oil do not like each other, applying oil before gel/polygel can cause lifting and fungus loves opportunities. Acrylic isn't as difficult, but gel will lift for sure. great work!
You are so amazing with your tutorials and explanations. I've been putting my fake nails to close to my cuticles and I have a nail drill on the way to try to do them the way you did and make them seamless. Every time I do them they pop off or lift two days after applying them.
Thank you! I’m a teen who just recently started doing gel x and they normally only last 1-2 weeks so this is very helpful! I’ll definitely be asking for more nail products for Christmas 😂
Maybe chill on the cuticle trimming for a while to see if the sensitivity dies down; it may look "neater," but honestly doesn't help with nail health in the long term, and can be ann entrypoint for infection
I have the same issue with gel. If you want to avoid the itch and redness, I found that using acrylic in between my nail bed and the gel products prevents any reaction. Also, I go around the sides of my nails, once I'm completely done with my mani, with a very thin drill bit to ensure I remove any gel that I may have accidentally gotten on any part of my skin or on the nail itself.
Thank you! I have very flat nail beds and couldn't figure out why the cheap amazon nails worked but the apres didn't. I like the apres better (short round). I followed your video and first time with no bubbles. fingers crossed they last more than a day!
I just want to say thank you for this tutorial! I followed your instructions precisely. Because of it, I have a gel manicure that looks just as good as when I previously went to the nail salon.I’m saving money and looking fabulous
tip from a fellow nail tech, add cuticle oil after everything is finished! Oils tend to cause lifting! Oils should be added after all prep, products, and designs!
so happy to see you posting again! i loved this video so much and i found it very helpful when it comes to doing my own nails. i hope you are ok and i look foward to whatever the next video brings us!
Fellow nail tech from Australia 👋 Thank you for your video, the hard gel overlay is such a great idea! I still have some small issues with lifting and I hope this technique may help. Also going around with the sanding band is genius 👌 I'm hand filing and this will save me time 😊
I don't know how I've never seen your videos, but anyways. I've been doing my own nails for years and I've watched so so many nail videos and this is one of THE BEST videos I've seen!! I do the same prep work and it was a game changer in helping my nails last longer/not lift and chip!!
I didn’t even know hard gel existed. I’m totally new to at home nails. We are nail twins. My nails are super weak. I take iron, collagen, and nothing works. To make it worse, my nails grow upward. I will definitely add the hard gel step.
I’ve been doing Gelx for a year now, I like to use my nail file to file the ends of each nail to make them thinner and blend it into my real nail. And drill the inside of the tip to get rid of that shine, that’s the key to have them last longer. You’re literally talented, all the designs, I literally just put a solid gel polish and call it a day
Hi! So you file the end that touches the cuticle?? That’s so smart and i am 190% going to do that next time, it’s the only problem i have w gel x nails
@@kaodiokafor322 yes! Definitely do, takes a little more time because you’re filing each nail but your nails will literally last you and won’t grow out weird or tacky !!!
@@carinalandyn5185 Oh. My. Goodness. I just did this and when i say GAME CHANGER??! 😮💨👏🏾 They look insanely good, they’ve never flushed this well. I’ve never been this excited to see my nails grow out 😂 Thank you so much
@carinalandyn5185 I’m new to doing gel x nails. Do you follow the steps to this video or what steps do you do? Would very much appreciate how to know 🙏🏽
Hi! Love love your videos. I also get a strange allergic reaction when I do my nails, I looked into it and it is actually the UV light. It can sometimes burn the cuticle when the chemical reaction is happening with the polish. I began applying a layer of 50 SPF sunscreen to my hands and cuticles and omg a HIGE difference! Hope this helps.
I thought I was the only one that had one nail that grows faster! It's my left index finger nail! Love the addition of hard gel, I'll have to explore this option.
So I actually use press on nail glue to apply by gel nails… but I’ve never did the sealing of the cuticles with the efile! I’m gonna try this, I hope it works!
Do you need the apres extend gel? I’m so confused with all the steps. But I really appreciate raw videos like this. Wish there were more of these online
First of all I love your nail designs and my nail art is usually inspired by you!❤️❤️And I did not know you are supposed to leave a gap in between the cuticle and the nail so ur not the only one!!!I guess I have been doing it wrong for two years!!💅
can you make a video on how to do nail swirls. I know it’s simple but i kinda struggle with it. i think it’s because the nail brushes i have. also how do i put the gel on without a mess and so it’s not sheer.
@@n0thum4n i found them on amazon and they are not long and are not good quality. Thank you. I have done thin base coat but haven’t watched my other coats😁
@@kiera18 you don’t need a long brush to do them I only use short brushes because I have no idea how to control a long brush with that much precision but practice will help and if you struggle to do them in one full stroke do multiple short strokes
So if I were doing my nails at home and wanted a more sturdy regular gel manicure, could I in theory just apply a layer of hard gel on my nail before the gel polish to help strengthen the nail underneath?
Thank you for showing the bit with the apex of the mail extension and extra gel. That completely makes sense and I wouldn’t have even thought of it!!! I have fairly flat nail beds as well, I’ll have to give the Apres brand a try.
i’m going to use your tips and maybe even try the hard gel hack as well. my nails lift at the 2-3 week mark so i really want to see if my next set will last 4-5 weeks by using your tips.

You are so amazing with your tutorials and explanations. I've been putting my fake nails to close to my cuticles and I have a nail drill on the way to try to do them the way you did and make them seamless. Every time I do them they pop off or lift two days after applying them.
Hey beautiful, just started watching your channel and I’m loving it!!❤
Your trick for doing the French tips!!! I’m so trying this! These are gorgeous 🤩🤩🤩
You're an artist! Very pretty end result.
Omg I need that pointy bit. After I paint my nails they look so bulky at the cuticle & I was getting so discouraged. Adding it to my cart now!
That's a good method, using an acrylic overlay. Nice 😊
How do you do that? Just curious as I don't use acrylic.
@@jenatherton1124 do you or have you ever used dip powder? That's acrylic. That's what I use.
Yayy she's back!
Because of it, I have a gel manicure that looks just as good as when I previously went to the nail salon.I’m saving money and looking fabulous
this video was amazing!! i just bought some gel polishes and i'm so excited to refer back to this video when my polishes arrive :'))
Gurllll!!! You save my 💅!! I follow your step-by-step of the layer of hard gel application🤯 perfect
tip from a fellow nail tech, add cuticle oil after everything is finished! Oils tend to cause lifting! Oils should be added after all prep, products, and designs!
Hi! Thanks for the video!
Fellow nail tech here! You don’t have to roughen up the hard gel, gel adheres to gel regardless ❤❤❤
i find that i have to with hard gel, otherwise the gel just pops off the hard gel bc of the tacky residue

so happy to see you posting again! i loved this video so much and i found it very helpful when it comes to doing my own nails. i hope you are ok and i look foward to whatever the next video brings us!
Your commentary speaks my thoughts!! That's so cool. I knew I liked you SUBSCRIBED 👍🏽♥️👍🏽
The Apres gel x prep is also a great option if you want to etch it without filing or drilling!
Would very much appreciate how to know 🙏🏽
I got all gel nail stuff because I came across your videos 💖💖
I never considered this, especially since two of my nails are the worst by far. I'll give this a shot!
Mine never last longer than a week, im ready to give up!can't wait to watch your video!im losing hope that ill have to go back to the salon !!
Which tips do you like the best? How do they compare in shape/length, apex and strength/flexibility? Would be awesome if you could do a video on this!
Check her description box. She has a link to her Amazon storefront there. Her favorites are there.
I like how you explain this well the reason why u need dehydrator and primer
Omggg hi Kayli! I’ve been waiting for new nail videos, im so excited!!
i literally love u kayli boyle :)
I LOVE YOU🤍🫶🏻
Do you need the apres extend gel? I’m so confused with all the steps. But I really appreciate raw videos like this. Wish there were more of these online
You don’t really need to she uses it because she got an allergic reaction but you can use any gel nail glue like beetles my fav!
Huge fan here. Your videos are amazing and detailed and close up. Very very informative. U go girl. 😊
First of all I love your nail designs and my nail art is usually inspired by you!❤️❤️And I did not know you are supposed to leave a gap in between the cuticle and the nail so ur not the only one!!!I guess I have been doing it wrong for two years!!💅
Hello! This tutorial is extremely helpful. Thanks!
can you make a video on how to do nail swirls. I know it’s simple but i kinda struggle with it. i think it’s because the nail brushes i have. also how do i put the gel on without a mess and so it’s not sheer.
Multiple thin coats and what brushes do you use?
@@n0thum4n i found them on amazon and they are not long and are not good quality. Thank you. I have done thin base coat but haven’t watched my other coats😁
@@kiera18 you don’t need a long brush to do them I only use short brushes because I have no idea how to control a long brush with that much precision but practice will help and if you struggle to do them in one full stroke do multiple short strokes
@@n0thum4n tyy!
The nails turned out so good 🔥🙌🏾
Thank you for this video, but I do have one question. Why didn't you use a base coat prior to the pink coat?
So if I were doing my nails at home and wanted a more sturdy regular gel manicure, could I in theory just apply a layer of hard gel on my nail before the gel polish to help strengthen the nail underneath?
Thank you for showing the bit with the apex of the mail extension and extra gel. That completely makes sense and I wouldn’t have even thought of it!!!
I have fairly flat nail beds as well, I’ll have to give the Apres brand a try.
Omg why does her nails grow the EXACT same as mine!! My ring finger grows fastest and my thumb is SUPERR SLOWW! 😮❤❤
i’m going to use your tips and maybe even try the hard gel hack as well. my nails lift at the 2-3 week mark so i really want to see if my next set will last 4-5 weeks by using your tips.
Hey Kayli. Always nice to see notifications from you
Jesus christ, this taught me everything i had to know about making my own acrylic nails and i was just looking for a quick tutorial. Best nail video i’ve ever watched. Thank you.
Love this just did my nails and i definitely feel them alot stronger dan what they was when i used to do them
