How to Make Interesting Textures with Acrylic Paint

- In this video I'm sharing how to create interesting textures and marks using acrylic paints. I LOVE brushes! I use them all the time. But I also like the different effects you can get by using unusual hardware store tools and things you find around the house.
It's REALLY important not to worry about making a painting when you are playing with new marks and textures .... that's why I am showing you something that definitely cannot be considered a painting ... playing is an essential part of my process and I firmly believe it needs to be part of yours too. I hope this video helps!

Aww thank you!
I'm trying to bust out of my anxiety riddled realism painting. Paying obscene amounts of attention to details, etc etc - and this was so helpful!! Thank you!!
That bubble wrap was fire

Glad you enjoyed it!
My roommate and I just sat outside at 10:30pm Saturday night and binge watched some of your Amazing videos. You are by far my favorite artist and I share you with all my artist friends. As I have told you before- your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skill and ideas is such a gift you give to all of us- especially Me! Thank You Dear Louise❤️ You are helping me grow my confidence as an artist. I hope you continue to create and share. I Love watching you mix paints and especially hearing you talk about your thought processes as you work on your pieces. Your thoughts about “nothing is ever wasted” and “never give up on a painting” is extremely helpful to me. Have a Great Week! Much love from one of your biggest fans- Jalyne in Utah USA ❤

Thank you so much, Louise - so much inspiration in an early morning watch - and the “finished” result would have looked great on my wall!!! Jen❤️❤️
Love this! I have a huge glass bowl of all of my paint chips that I scraped off of all of my palettes from all of my paintings for the past 10 years lololol Artists are weird this I know.
Very interesting! I love the the techniques. Thanks for sharing!
So fun and inspiring, big thanks!

Forget to thank you for sharing your process, U are so kind!
Thank you dear Louise!! very helpful stuff! :)
This has reminded me I can play at the beginning of a new piece, I’ve been feeling tight and intimidated by a bank board thinking I needed to get the loud conversation sorted out first - this suggests to me ok just play make marks its only layer one the curating and editing can come later! Thanks for the inspiration
Love the orange paint on the face! Adorable! Xoxo
You bring back the joy of discovery and play, you made me smile. Thank you:)
Glad you enjoyed it!
perfect!!!!!!! looks like "safe" fun lol

What a terrific demonstration, Louise! Thank you so much for showing ways to make unusual marks with the most basic items. I can't wait to go experiment and see what evolves.

Thanks Louise I found this inspiring. I also love the tape from the edges too!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate that you share all the parts of making a picture. I discovered in another video that I prefer cool greens, and use too many colors in my work. I love experimenting with non traditional tools but that comes along with doing collage and mixed media work. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
It looks amazing! Loved the textures and colors that you used. Thanks!!!
Glad you like it!
Love all your demos . Thank you Louise😊

You are so welcome!
Love how creative and playful you are. Thanks so much
Thank you! 😊
It is always good to have these reminders. And I love watching you paint. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Most of my mark-making tools are random unconventional painting tools.
Wonderful!
I watched this a few months ago and enjoyed it but having learned a little more in the interim I came back to this and got so much more out of it. So instructive and helpful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
OMG you can't imagine how much I have learned with this video!! Thank you so much for sharing your techniques! Your are generous ❤️
You are so welcome!
I found this really really helpful and inspiring. I realise that the FYJ course is about feelings rather than techniques or critiques, but actually seeing the practicalities explained like this is fantastically liberating. I just don't 'know' enough. I need permission to do crazy things... it literally extends my field of operation. I want more of this. I would like to know more about paper, canvas, board, books, pens, inks, paints, gels, toners, printing, etc etc.... I want to expand my operational area... without missing the potential of various materials through not-knowing. Thank you very much indeed.
Griselda Hi, did you find informative clips to help you learn more? Im looking for same. Doing FYJ22 now.
That was brilliant, thank you!
I love this! I'd love to hear more about how you approach shape--what kinds of shape, where, why....
In this video it really wasn't an issue as I was just playing but that's a good idea for another video - thanks!
a very nice dome to inspire how to play with whatever materials available to you and explore
loved it!
Thanks so much Louise!
You are just sooo inspiring. I’m on the way as we speak to the garden, garage and kitchen. Thank you for all that you do.
Wonderful!
I actually really like it, lol!
Aww thank you! ♥
thank you so much for that inspiring class! i love the ideas and how you took us into a process of such a peace where you actually used almost all different types of marks ans shapes but still drew that beautiful peace out of it! amazing
Thank you! Happy you enjoyed it
Wow! So many good ideas! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
Thanks so muchfor doing this video! I learned great deal from your example. One thing I would have loved to see is the introduction of a soft, lighter shade of periwinkle blue, (almost but not quite lavender). It would have made my heart sing even more. Thank you again. I'm now a loyal subscriber!
I find your videos so inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing your skills.
Glad you like them!
Danke für die Tipps !
You are truly inspirational!!

Great mark making video. Good idea using in your sketchbook.
I love going back and looking at the different stuff I did and being surprised by some of it x
I really like the creative use of different things laying around! i guess it takes a lot of practice to master the harmonious combination of all these techniques on the canvas.
It does!
Thank you so much for such an inspirational video
