My dad was the fire chief for a small town volunteer department. Every summer he use to bring the firetruck over and fill the pool. It was normal back then.
The water truck holds 4,000 gallons of water and the average pool holds 18,000 gallons of water so my guess would be at a minimum 5 trucks. It’s possible his truck holds more and that pool may be smaller than average though
Didn't know this was a thing. I usually just run the hose all day till next day and it will be filled by morning, then I'll add chlorine tabs in there with shock and it will be good to go lol.

That’s funny because the fire department use to empty mine when there was a fire! We had no hydrants on street 😮 1st time it happened I had just got finished treating pool with $600+ of Bacquacil pool chemicals. Shits expensive but pool was always crystal clear and no burning chlorine in eyes or mouth. Had a brush fire along back property line, FD came with tanker but ran out of water. They threw the suction hoses in my pool and emptied it in about 10 minutes! It was like watching my $600+ go up in smoke 🤦♂️ Put in a bill to town for reimbursement! Rejected with a letter stating town bylaws give them authority to use any available water in an emergency because there is no hydrant system! Finally got town hydrant system a few years later but I ended up paying for that thru a raise in my taxes!😮🤯🤷♂️
We can see when someone opens a hydrant on the SCADA system based on tower drawdown. A lot of times we can even narrow down what area. Most of the time its contractors illegally filling water tankers.
I agree, filling the towns pools for a donation every spring. People could get their pools filled for a lower rate and you guys could be closer and more in contact with the community. There would likely be push back due to keeping the truck in a state of readiness. If a call came in just as last few gallons of water were being pumped into a swimming pool it probably wouldn't go over well.

Had a brush fire along back property line, FD came with tanker but ran out of water.
They threw the suction hoses in my pool and emptied it in about 10 minutes!
It was like watching my $600+ go up in smoke 🤦♂️
Put in a bill to town for reimbursement!
Rejected with a letter stating town bylaws give them authority to use any available water in an emergency because there is no hydrant system!
Finally got town hydrant system a few years later but I ended up paying for that thru a raise in my taxes!😮🤯🤷♂️

I hook up from the fire hydrant across the street, no neighbors close by and 💯 percent no traffic after 6pm.. that's how you beat inflation!!
Used to do this also , but than who ever keeps track of the meter shut us down and they installed some new high tech flow control
We can see when someone opens a hydrant on the SCADA system based on tower drawdown. A lot of times we can even narrow down what area. Most of the time its contractors illegally filling water tankers.

I’ve been in the fire co since 2009 and yet to do this. It would be a good fundraising thing and way to be with the community
I agree, filling the towns pools for a donation every spring.
People could get their pools filled for a lower rate and you guys could be closer and more in contact with the community. That is such a fantastic idea. Maybe bring that up with your mayor and the chief of the fire department You may get a little brownie point.

There would likely be push back due to keeping the truck in a state of readiness. If a call came in just as last few gallons of water were being pumped into a swimming pool it probably wouldn't go over well.
