Materials don't cost nearly as much as the construction. Also a wall is a stupid idea, especially if your trying to efficiently stop illegal immigration. Do you honestly think that people that travel hundreds of miles through the dessert are going to get to the border, see a 10 foot wall and think, well nothing I can do better go back. We actually have pretty sophisticated border protection right now, for example we have infrared cameras that can detect humans. It is not a walk in the park to get past the border, and if you like may others think otherwise I would encourage you to do some research.

My son is a border patrol agent, so there's nothing you can argue about in this, he is right there!!
Also by putting up as much of a wall as physically possible, it makes a smaller area to use surveillance, thus making reaction time to incursions quicker. And there's other options like just shooting on sight.

When your wealth is gone and you have to depend on your administration let me know how that works out for you.
